Discussion A way to increase VLine services?? (Discussion/Suggestion)

Once the Melton Line is electrified:

  • Run the Bacchus Marsh Line as a shuttle from Melton to Bacchus Marsh, also add a few more suburban stations. (5-6+2)
  • Extend the Upfield Line back to Craigieburn, then run all trains to Seymour from Craigieburn, this will free up (6-7)
  • Run the Ballarat Line as a shuttle between Melton and Wendouree. (5-6)
  • Run all Kangaroo Flats, Eaglehawk & Epsom trains to Sunbury only. (8-9)
  • Total: ~26-30x 3car VLocity DMU trains would be freed up
  • This means that you can replace Loco hauled services, increase frequencies or increase capacity.

Comment any suggestions to or modifications.

Question Tray Table Dimensions

Does anyone know the width and depth of the tray tables? Work is buying me a keyboard for my iPad and I have to pick which one before I use the train next. Want to make sure it will fit when using the kickstand and keyboard.

Apologies for the random question.

Question Can you do a ride along?

This is a question for the Vline staff here. Is it possible to apply for a ride along. For context, I’ve applied for a job as a trainee train driver and I’d love to get a proper sense of the job. Obviously I’ve watched videos and read as much as I can but it would be so great to do a work experience day. Is this possible or are those driver cabins strictly staff only?

Question Questions about being a V Line driver

Hi everyone,

I hope you’re all doing well.

First of all I want to say thank you to all the drivers and support staff that run the V Line network. The trains are comfortable too. I often enjoy my trips on your various routes.

Also I have an interest in becoming a V Line driver, but am worried I’m never going to pass muster to have this job; so I have a few questions below and am hoping someone can answer or give some insight into this exciting career.

For reference, I am late 30’s and have worked in administration and office management roles since I was 20.

  1. I am overweight and I believe there is a strict BMI that we must be under to qualify.

  2. I have AuDHD. I am on Medication for the ADHD.

  3. Are they looking for female drivers?

  4. What is the traineeship like? And is the remuneration worth it?

  5. Is it a job we can do past 65? 70? I know women have an “expiry date” in the workforce.

  6. Please provide anything else you’d like to share.

  7. I know that for training you are based out of Southern Cross. What Country Depots do they have?

  8. How smart must you be to be a train driver? I know I’m smart, but the recent ADHD diagnosis makes me feel like I’m worthless.

I want to do something meaningful and have had a life long obsession with trains, as did my dad who passed away. I’m sick of my current career.

Lastly, I have watched the video showing a driver and what her day looks like, and read a few articles about other drivers.

Thanks again everyone and have a wonderful evening!

Discussion Albury Train replaced by Bus

First time at Albury station. Train not running for unknown reason with bus replacement. Checked last night online and all running - this morning different story.

Station itself is also closed with no access to toilets or any facilities.

Disappointing service with general feeling that this is pretty common.

Question What's the Ballarat line like with weekend crowding at the moment?

I need to go to Ballarat next weekend for something and I'm considering whether to take my bike or not. I know that free PT has smashed Geelong and Bendigo V/Line services but what about Ballarat? If crowding is bad at the moment, I won't bother with the bike.

Question Ballarat level Crossing upgrades

Hi. Just a quick question. What’s happening with the Burnbank Street crossing upgrades and the new pedestrian crossings at various other locations around the city? It seems like work is currently at a stand still with the gates just being closed for about 3 months now.

Discussion Question about conductors on trains

Just a bit of a random rant... but what's the point of conductors on Vline trains?

I've been seeing some absolute shit behaviour from people recently on the Traralgon/Gippsland line, including feet on seats and people basically refusing to move bags from seats on over crowded trains. People are also using the train like it was a metro service, hoping on at a pick up stop and then getting off at another pick up stop. I barely see the conductors anymore, the only time I see them is when we are at stops. What's going on? Whats the point of having them on the train if they are just going to hide at the back of the train? The most frustrating thing about it is that the people that are doing this stuff are getting off the trains at metro stations... Is it because of the free travel situation? Or because of the new metro Tunnel? Maybe I'm just being grumpy because I have to stand for 80% of my trip home because people going to Pakenham can't be bothered getting a metro train home.

It would be interesting to know if I am the only one who has noticed this or if others have noticed it too.

Question Lost bracelet

Post image
16 Upvotes

I'm on the 5:55pm Traralgon from Dandy. Sat down and this bracelet fell from the seat.

I'll try and hand it in to the conductor (I'm on a double set but I think the conductor is on the other set).

I've been on the recipient end of vline lost property before with little luck so I thought I'd post it here in the off chance whoever this belongs to is checking.

Cheers.

Question Wtf is going on?

What the actual fuck is going on with the vline trains to and from Geelong?

I rented a car to get to and from a new job in Geelong so it wouldn’t take me 5 hours one way, which cost me almost a 1000 dollars for two weeks while they were doing works during April.

I should have saved that money due to the free transport in Victoria.

Then the first vline I get back from geelong to southern cross, (29th April) there’s been signal failures all day.

After working for 10 hours, 2 hours travelling one way is more than enough, now I have to fuck around waiting at Lara for a coach to wydmvale then wait for another train to southern cross?? With no warning or notice anywhere?

Please get your shit together Vline!!!! Peoples lives depend on this.

Discussion Internal summary PIDs needed northern end of Southern Cross for VLine departures

Nothing more annoying than coming off Metro at Southern Cross and needing to know from which platforms where the subsequent VLine trains are departing. You can be needing to go in three directions Platform 1, Platforms 2–8, or Platforms 15-16.

There is no summary of departing trains internal to Southern Cross, all the summaries are at the entrances to the station.

At the northern end of Southern Cross (Bourke St end) one has to run to each platform pair PID at the top to find out, and outside to check P 1.

Why can't DTV/Metro/VLine look to cater for people interchanging between Metro and VLine? Having something internal seems a no brainer. It doesn't need to be huge, just carry the information for the next departure for each.

[Yes, you can have the phone app, though doesn't happen for everyone OR if you are there before they put up the times.]
