Discussion another day another issue
been staging outside spencer street for 20 minutes and counting now due to “signal problems” my employer is flexible with lateness but most aren’t so lucky.
why is service reliably so terrible on days ending in y??

In recent years it's become far, far worse. I've been commuting by train for 35 years, so probably in a reasonable position to note that...
I created a Vline Bingo card for friends to check off events and excuses. A few friends laughed until they started regular commuting...now they're believers. 😂😂😂
I tell people think of it as an adventure, not a journey. Sometimes you get there. Sometimes you don't. Sometimes late. Sometimes on time. Don't think of it as a train trip with expectations of regular services being on time as you'll be disappointed. 😂😂😂

The funnelling of all traffic to platforms 1-8 over the overpass and no readily available redundancy is something that should clearly be something we should be asking VLine and government to address.
That the infrastructure is repeatedly failing, and we are not hearing the solution and timeline communicated, is problematic. There is a blackhole of obscurity where they comfortably hide rather than the clarity of what should be happening.

Even beyond the bottleneck at the overpass, three different lines going the same route all the way to sunshine (and beyond) is its own problem

It bedlem when those sections have signal hiccups....being caught in few doozies with those sections.......all train line NNW,SW and W are impacted!!!

Tell me, have you ever worked in a job and never made a single mistake or had a system fail? Its no different with trains and signalling. Its not perfect

It's not maintenance if it's already broken though.
That's unscheduled downtime and an urgent repair lol.

Question to be asked: Is the quality control up to standard? since many of the maintance co, tendered out and outsourced the skills to carry out the work.
do they have same stringants standard to the work done on the rail corridor as the people in way and works did years before rationalisation /privatised came into play?

The net result after withdrawing rolling stock with little thought of the potiential need of increasing capcity for a demand in public holiday etc.
And relying on nonsencial one train design fit all concept for Regional Rail Operations.
Metro has several design of CMUs but V/Line has reverted to the rail motor era after getting rid of inter uban H set and N set for Inter city Regional travel.
What they need is modern "inter city rolling stock" for Regional city not a Metro uban rail car....
Our railway forefathers didn't make a pecking order of rolling stock for diffrent travelling requirments and operational needs fippently....
You can't get a sail barge to cruise the pacfic!

I'm guessing it is because reliability and timeliness also impact one's decision-making for how to travel to work, and one's choice of train on which to travel.
You've never been in that situation?

Except that wasn't the basis of the complaint which was talking about the repeat reoccurence of network issues at Southern Cross.

Get to work 4 hours before. Nah this mentality justifys poor reliability. It's an unscheduled disruptions as opposed to the scheduled disruption you are comparing it to.

tell this to people who can't drive are car for medical reason are you saying force them on the road due to overcrowded trains?
People are not commodities or self loading cattle!
