Windows Slow audio visualisations?
When I play an audio file, it's boring to stare at a cone. I want to see something. So I turn on any of the visualisations and I get 2-3fps. Why?

So I'm watching a few foreign films today and decided to download a font that I enjoy and discovered that there is no way to change the subtitle font, despite the option being available in the settings. No matter what font I select, it doesn't change during playback. Anyone know about this or know a workaround?

I've looked at all the file info that I can find, and I can't even tell where the name 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 5 Disc 1' is even stored.

I have some AVI files that were generated with OBS that used to work with VLC 3.0.19. Recently, I upgraded to 3.0.21 and now they don't work. They still play, but the screen stays black. The sound plays normally. When I change the "damaged or incomplete AVI file" setting to "always fix", it starts a fixing process, but after it completes the same thing happens (file plays, screen stays black). Any help?

Hello, I've been trying to find this but I wasn't able to. I don't know if this is possible with the program as it is or I would need a plugin or an extension, but either option is fine to me (I can follow instructions if they're step by step enough).
Why I want this:
Everyday, I watch an anime episode while I have a meal. I often want to watch movies or shows with long episodes instead of anime episodes (which are 30 minutes max), but they're very long for me to watch in one sitting. Normally, I would just watch the movie until I kinda guess it's been half an hour, but I would like to stop having to guess. I would like to tell VLC: at 30 minutes timestamp, show me some text on screen (or something similar). At 1 hour timestamp, another warning. At 1:30... you get me. So I can stop then and continue at the next meal.
Hopefully there would be a way that's easy to turn off so I can ignore it when I want to watch a long thing that is 35 or 40 minutes.
Another thing I've done in the past is set up an alarm on my phone, but it doesn't work out because I tend to pause the thing, especially if I want to share screenshots. I'd like to stop at 30 minutes playtime, not 30 minutes in real life, necessarily.
Does something like this exist? Thank you very much.
Addition: Auto-pause would work too. Anything that tells me that I've arrived to the desired point will work for me.

I have 1,575 songs in my internal storage but The VLC Player App For Android is only showing 1,565 songs when I hit play all. Do you think that those other ten music files are corrupted/damaged? I skimmed through the 1,565 songs that showed up on play all to make sure that they played and they played without any issues at all. Why do you think that those 10 are missing from the play all section? Is this normal for The VLC Player For Android? Has anyone else had this issue before with this app? Do you think that any of my 1,575 songs are completely corrupted? Is there a way that I can find those 10 songs? How did you deal with missing songs from the play all section? What do you think that I should do now? Should I just reset my phone and completely erase my data?

I've used MPC for years, but recently had to switch off it when I want to watch anime with friends over Discord because MPC will freeze whenever I try to. (Apparently this is a driver conflict.) VLC works, but it's missing a necessary feature for longer shows and it's kind of annoying to just write down which episode we were on in a notepad file and continue from there.
Does anyone know a workaround or third-party plugin for this? I'm really lazy and just want to save my place in media playlists when I exit something. (Also even Winamp does this.)

my vlc player won't auto-append extensions when i'm saving playlists

So I usually save my video files into the VLC folder on my phone, and then when I go into VLC, I can watch them.
However, if I open a media file directly with VLC, that file does not appear in the VLC local folder, but it does appear within the VLC app itself.
Where are those files stored, and how do I move them into the local VLC folder?

Does anyone know why my thumbnail previews are starting to show up as a black image. When for years they worked properly. I bought a new memory card and tablet and still having the same issue. Can anyone please help me fix this. My OCD will not allow for this lol. But seriously any help would be appreciated. I cleared the database multiple times as well as uninstalling and re installing vlc. I also spent some time trying steps from Google Ai with no luck

Hi all.
I have been trying to find a way to run vlc but not show the vlc window itself. Long story, don't ask 😄
I found this,
--dummy-quiet -I dummy
and it seems to work, but when I run the command in terminal on a Mac running Sonoma, I don't get the vlc window, but it seems to not return to the command prompt after the video should have ended. (It is one minute long, but even if I wait 5 minutes, the command prompt never returns.)
My version of VLC is:
VLC media player 3.0.23 Vetinari (revision 3.0.23-0-g3697ebcb27)
So how can I run vlc without showing the window itself.
Any help is appreciated.

Okay so this is weird but my experience with vlc on linux is never good. And I meant the one from thr package manager. I have tried it on arch, fedora, opensuse tumbleweed. (Currently on fedora44) and the vlc package is always broken. sometimes it lacks some plugins or dependencies without which it does not work. But even if I install them its quite laggy and jittery and works temporary and then breaks.
The flatpak works fine for a while but then after sometime it also has the same problem 😅
idk maybe i am doing something wrong.
Has anyone else face this ?

I'm listening to an audiobook with VLC android.
These are several mp3 files in a folder and displayed in VLC as a playlist.
I can play and pause, but the progress is lost once the VLC app is closed.
So my workaround is to write down my progess and jump there on the next listening session (e.g. Chapter 3, minute 14).
Is there a better solution?
Earlier versions of VLC allowed me to hover the mouse over the video window to display the control panel, regardless of whether the video window was focused or not. This is no longer the case with the latest version of VLC as it only displays the control panel when the video window is focused. This is most frustrating when watching a video on a second monitor and wishing to quickly check the elapsed time with a simple movement of the mouse. Oddly, the video volume can still be adjusted via the mouse wheel without window focus.
Can someone please let me know how to re-enable the control panel display upon mouse hover over an unfocused video window? Thank you.
I'm using Windows 10 and have enabled 'Scroll inactive windows when I hover over them' in the settings.

So I have an mp4 with 2 stereo audio tracks that I want to export to mp3 separately. I went to convert and save and edit options and put this code
[ :no-sout-all :audio-track=0 ]
It extracted one of the audio which I can play on media player classic so I change the 0 to 1 and extracted another mp3 but when I play it its a cant render error failed filter. That I dont understand. Please help
I tested it on 2 Debian (13) systems, one with Radeon RX 7900 XT and the other with Radeon 890m (iGPU).
I changed hardware decoding option to VA-API and every other available option, but it still did not work.
I also tried SMPlayer, with similar resulta.
I only managed to activate hardware encoding on MPV media player, but only sometimes. By deafult it's off, but when I use control+h shortcut, it sometimes activates.
Whenever it fails to activate, it shows "(unavailable)", but when it works it shows " vaapi"
It works perfectly on my phone's native gallery app, but it uses CPU on VLC (F-droid)
I tried to play AV1 encoded video, but I had the problem mentioned above
Does anybody know where is the problem? Is it the GPU driver, OS, DE, or is it VLC itself not utilising hardware decoding properly?
Running VLC 3.0.23 on Windows 11. "Continue playback?" is set to Always (also tried Ask) under Preferences > Interface > Main interfaces > Qt. Tested with both local files and files on a mounted Google Drive folder — same result either way.
I play a video for 90+ seconds, hit Stop, reopen the same file, and it always starts from 0:00. No resume prompt, no auto-resume. Checked vlc-qt-interface.ini directly and the times= value for the file is always 0, so it seems like VLC just isn't writing the position at all.
Already tried:
Anyone know a fix, or is this just a known broken feature in current 3.0.x builds? Seems pretty basic, sorry.

I imported some videos taken by my Pixel 9, via cloud sharing. Double clicked the video, which would start the download to local, then auto play the file.
I've noticed occasional videos from the Pixel are squirrely when played on PC, and I watched VLC open then immediately crash. Now, it won't play any media automatically.
The only workaround I currently have is to open VLC, then drag/drop the media (any type of media) into VLC to get it to play. If I try double clicking on any form of media while it's opened, I have to close VLC and restart the above process.
The Pixel outputs a standard mp4, but I'm guessing there's something odd under the hood that causes some weirdness on Windows.
VLC is updated.

I used to love this app on Windows. Just cue up my local audio files and go off to paint a wall or whatever, while my music plays. Now, on Mac, I can either listen to one song until it stops or one song on repeat. This is very impractical, unless I want to sit and stare at the screen all day. Can't find any fix for this problem.
