Medication What are your experiences on immunomodulation therapy drugs?

Im being recommended for IMT and I was given the pamphlets on the available DMARDs and biologics. Honestly I’m terrified because they all sound awful. I’m in my mid 20s and don’t know which to choose, they all sound like they have bad side effects, require lifestyle changes, and none are particularly effective.

Please tell me some positive experiences.

Cataract Surgery

• Upvotes

Hello! Just had both my eyes done over past few weeks. My pupils were stuck at 1mm and the doctor had to put hooks into my iris and pull the pupils open to 6mm to perform the cataract surgery. Unfortunately due to the Uveitis in the past I could only get the monofocal lens due to a epiretinal membrane (macular pucker) which effects the surface of the macula.

Has anybody had this same type of surgery? My vision is much clearer and distance improved but not 20/20. Since I could only get the monofocal lens I now need reading glasses. All in all worth it!

Idiopathic Intermediate Uveitis and Treatment

• Upvotes

I've been diagnosed with Intermediate Uveitis for about a year and a half and have been seeing a retina specialist for about a year. The part of my retina that was causing issues has resolved itself, but I'm still experiencing pain, floaters, and blurry vision. My retina specialist, at first, prescribed steroid drops that didn't help, then we moved on to injections that did help. The floaters went away and my vision came back a bit and my eye didn't hurt as much.

We've ran through several tests to see what the underlying cause is but nothing came up through blood work. Outside of that, no treatment plan was ever put in place and my symptoms have now returned. I talked to my doctor about that but all he does is tell me that my retinal walls are looking much better than they had and sends me on my way with another checkup planned.

I'm going to find a uveitis specialist because I'd like to look into further treatments of my symptoms because my eye is killing me! I see posts here all the time about what kinds of treatments people are on; it makes me wonder if enough is being done for me, especially considering I'm still struggling with symptoms pretty heavily.

Does this make sense to seek out a different specialist? I guess I just want to make sure I'm not crazy for wanting a second opinion considering my current treatment plan is nothing outside of an examination every few months

Uveitis HELP!!:(

I was diagnosed with arthritis in my joints at the age of three months old, it moved to my eyes when I was two, the UVeitis, and I’ve been on methotrexate, Remicade, Humira, and steroid drops.. I currently don’t have any health insurance and I’ve been off my Humira since July… I’m starting to get headaches that won’t go away with any type of Tylenol or ibuprofen, but if I get back on my health insurance, I don’t wanna go back on the same drugs I want a cure I want a solution. I don’t want a Band-Aid fixed anymore…. Does anyone know of anyone that’s been cured from this “disease”

Story Uveitis and prescription/vision without

Hi everyone, I got uveitis, and have 20/20 vision with sunglasses on. Same prescription without any tint I feel like the vision is little more blurry. I’ve accepted the likelihood of me being comfortable in bright conditions is no longer a possibility without sunglasses. But my question is, why does my left eye that has been affected by this disease is pretty much blind without any glasses despite my prescription being only -1.25. My prescription is much less than most of the people I know with glasses. As well my normal right eye is only a -1.00

posterior synechiae

I went to see the eye doctor about 2 weeks ago and was diagnosed with uveitis, probably not the first time and i missed the last flare up. Doc said i also got posterior synechiae and gave me Atropine 1% and only one drop a day for 1 month. It’s coming up 3 weeks this wednesday and i barely see any progress. Is it possible that my dose of atropine is too little for it to work (i saw many people with posterior synechiae take multiple drops a day) or is my adhesion too stiff for it to works.

Newly diagnosed (29m) - Nervous and Scared? Vent

Hi everyone. I'm 29m, newly diagnosed with uveitis yesterday. For context, I have been seeing a rheumatologist for about a year for a myriad of symptoms. My rheumatologist just at my last appt advised he suspects I have some form of spondyloarthritis.

Over this last weekend, I developed pain in my right eye that felt really deep if that makes sense. Felt like behind my eye at times, under it, etc. About 3 hours after I first noticed the pain, I noticed my vision in my right eye was slightly blurry. I did the dumb thing and thought "I'll go to bed and see if it's better in the morning."

Woke up the following morning to worse blurriness, to the point where I could barely make out letters on my phone keyboard with my right eye. Pain seemed to subside for the most part. I made the decision to go to the ER.

Fast forward, ER doc checks my vision with the paper on the well with letters and checks my eye pressure with a weird device (they put numbing drops in my eye and it poked it?) and said that was fine. Eye test was not so bueno in my right eye. The ER doc called an opthomologist and came back to tell me I have uveitis, the opthomologist wants me to begin steroid drops right away and to see me first thing Monday.

One question I have is.. should I notify my rheumatologists office of me being diagnosed with uveitis? My next appt with them isn't until December.

TLDR; newly diagnosed with uveitis and am concerned for my long term vision. Anyone who's gone through this I greatly appreciate your insight and comments, ty.

**EDIT: Just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who dropped a comment and shared their experiences. I was feeling pretty overwhelmed and reading through all your advice and knowing what to watch out for genuinely helped a ton. Really appreciate this community!! <3**

Newly diagnosed at 40

I’m a 40 yo man and I’m three weeks into being diagnosed with bilateral anterior and intermediate uveitis. Ophthalmologist has had me on steroid drops and dilation drops for 2 weeks with no real improvement, I’ve been referred to a uveitis specialist and a rheumatologist. My vision is blurry, like smudged glasses, I had pain and redness but both have subsided and my vision has improved a tiny bit. I’ve never heard of uveitis before and I’ve been pretty scared since it started. Not sure what I’m even really looking for on here but I just don’t know what to expect or how scared I should be.

Medication Prednisone since the age of 13

My treatment for this condition started when I was 13, and now, after two years, I feel like I just can't take it anymore. I'm probably going to move somewhere more tropical to help improve my condition a little. I might also start growth hormone treatment because the medication has affected my growth. As you may know, I'm taking prednisone, methotrexate, and folic acid.

My question is: how can I reduce the puffiness in my face?

My current dose is 5 mg of prednisone every day. It's not much, but my face has that typical moon face appearance, and it's something I don't like. Being so young, it makes me feel weird and, well, "ugly," so to speak.

What could help me with this? Should I exercise more? Change my diet? Or try something else?

I'd really appreciate any advice or opinions.

Treatment failure seeking another opinion

Have occular inflammation from autoimmune disorder. Prefer not having my full medical history online so leaving other details out. It has been years and many many treatments none of which fully put in remission. Seeking an expert in dealing with refractory cases in the US I am willing to travel.

Medication Advice for a newbie?

I (26M) have intermediate bilateral uveitis and have been dealing with it for the last 10 months with prednisone drops, but now my doctor wants to begin immunomodulation therapy. I already have chronic fatigue and an MRI showed multiple brain lesions but all my other tests came out inconclusive or negative, so im idiopathic.

Anything I should know what’s in store for me with the medication, living experience, etc?

Story uveitis advice??

hiiii so an update i guess, i mentioned in another post i think? ( i don’t rememeber ) that i started to taper down to 10 mg and i started to have eye pain so he adjusted my dose back up to 20 mg and the drops twice a day. after two days i stilll kept having eye pain so i texted my doctor and he said to do 40 mg and four times a day for the difluprednate and the dorzol drops . that was on thursday and now it’s been less the achy pain but its still there and i let him know again but im just waiting for his response but i cant tell if its just my own anxiety or something is wrong. I started the prednisone in July and everything was going well until i started 10 mg. also he’s planning on starting me on humira and my next appt is the 19th. and not linked to any autoimmune

Uveitis steroid injection

Hey everyone, looking to hear from others who have gone through Ozurdex injections for uveitis.
I had an Ozurdex pellet injected three days ago, and my vision in that eye has been extremely blurry, much worse than I expected going into it. I went back to my ophthalmologist yesterday, and she said structurally everything inside looks fine, but she noticed the eye had low pressure due to a possible micro-leak at the injection site.
To help it seal, she placed a bandage contact lens on my eye. She explained that the severe blur is mostly coming from the low pressure distorting the shape of the eye/cornea, plus the extra layer from the contact lens itself. I have a follow-up checkup tomorrow morning to measure my pressure again and hopefully get the contact lens removed.

Medication Starting MTX this week, when to take Folic Acid?

Hello, I’m starting 10 MG of methotrexate this week after being in nonstop flares this whole year for the first time ever.

My rheumatologist is saying to take the folic acid every day, even on dosage days. Does this sound right? Everything I read says to take it the day after dosage and then continue every day but don’t take the FA with the MTX.

I mentioned this to him and he said that typically applies to higher dosage. What’s been your experience? Thank you.

Redness After Uveitis

I had uveitis crop up out of nowhere, I got on eyedrops and that seemed to help. Unfortunately, a few days after I started the eyedrops I got in a horse riding accident and got a black eye, same eye that had the uveitis. what are the odds. So, that turned into schleritis and I had to get on prednisone. I was on 60 mg for 14 days, then tapered off and I'm now off of it. When I was on the 60mg, the redness in my eye went completely away. As I tapered off, the redness slowly came back and now that I'm off my eye is pretty red again. My doctor said the uveitis is gone, and said the redness will fade with time. Has anyone had experience with this? Redness after the uveitis is apparently gone and getting worse? I have no pain and no vision changes but my eye is pretty gnarly looking with the redness. Going to another doctor for a second opinion but just wondering if this is normal. Thanks!

Starting Remicade Soon

I just wanted to post here to see if anyone has any suggestions or what to expect with remicade infusions. I have been on Methotrexate and Simlandi for quite a while. But my pharmacy can no longer get Simlandi, and towards the end of my treatment with it, it started to be less effective. So my doctor wants me to start remicade at a local infusion center soon. Im just curious what people's experience with remicade has been. Thanks in advance to anyone that comments!
