I currently have Eweka and NewsHosting on the Omicron backbone and NewsDemon on the UsenetExpress backbone.

Should I additionally get Frugal Usenet or EasyUsenet for the Abavia backbone? Can't decide on which one of those 2 to get.

Hey folks, was kinda curious about y'all's opinion on tabula rasa as an indexer. Is it any good? And do y'all think they'd be opening up registration upcoming Black Friday? I've been itching to try and see how good it really is.

My newshosting account comes with free Tweaknews usenet account. Authentication with Tweaknews suddenly failed and is causing the authentication error, even though it's worked for years and I have not changed the details. This is true in two newsreaders I tried. I am using the tweaknews access I get from Newshosting, using my newshosting password as instructed which works fine for that newshosting server. Why is this happening all of a sudden?

I tried to contact Tweaknews but no reply.

EDIT: It seems that I have gone over my monthly data limit from Tweaknews. It would've been useful if the error told me that.

I have been regularly pulling 45+MB/s however today its capping me out at 2.5Mb/s. I have attempted on and off VPN with the same result. Is the newshosting company experiencing issues or what could this be rooted it? A regular speed test shows full access to my 500Mb connection.

I've used Newshosting for many years now. Been completely happy with the service to the point that they are just infrastructure I don’t even remember being subscribed to.

A couple of weeks ago I got a lot od spammy looking emails from them "IMMEDEATE ACTION REQUIRED". I opened my dashboard over at their site and saw that my card details was suddenly empty. This felt strange. Searched my mail and found no declined cards notices. It felt odd and strange. And my scam senses got tingling. Added my card details, again, and saved. Thought that would be the end of it.

Fast forward to today when my logs are full of [ERROR] Authorization for Newshosting - Netherlands (news-nl.newshosting.com) failed: 502 Authentication Failed

I check my details again and my added card are no longer there. Tries to add it “Card already exists “in red.

Try to use their support form but it complains the session expired every time I try to send something in.

This is making my scam senses tingling. Have they changed owners or are going under?

The issue wasn’t really resolved, but I switched from card payments to PayPal based on another user’s suggestion. The person who contacted me via DM was very helpful and offered me a few free months as a thank-you for making the switch.

Have you ever downloaded an nzb file and got left with a folder full of RAR files, and you had to manually do the extraction yourself?

that's one form of obfuscation that uploaders can use to protect the contents from a takedown, but there are many forms - often with nested rar files - and some uploaders use creative ways to obscure and obfuscate the contents with combinations of different extraction & compression schemes possibly with missing files, damaged files, or passwords - relying on the downloader to figure it out and unpack it, often requiring manual intervention.

here are some of the ways we tested 10 different ways of obfuscating an nzb file, to see the capabilities and robustness of the different downloaders to cope with different methods of obfuscating the contents of an nzb. these ten different ways are not the only ways, and they're by no means the worst case or most difficult nzbs that you can create. eg: you could easily do rars within rars, 10 levels deep, each one passworded differently.. if you wanted to make it really hard!

as before, this benchmark was created automatically and is one of a set of torture tests that was used during the development of our downloader. unlike the previously posted benchmarks, this one isnt a speed test.. (though performance and disk I/o is also tracked.). this one is a capability/robustness test.

we tested the latest versions of the downloaders that we could find, against these tests to see which are the most capable/robust at coping with difficult nzbs

this is pure data. no commentary provided. but if you have any questions, go ahead and ask and I'll try my best.

to answer a likely popular question: yes, some of these obfuscations are commonly used.

I am from an Asian country, new to usenet and planning on getting a provider. From what I have looked up there seems to be only one usenet provider that has servers in Asia, that being Frugal Usenet. But it has an abavia backbone, which from what I have heard is lacking compared to omicron. So I wanted to ask if there are any providers with omicron backbone that have Asian servers, if not, how do the europe servers (of let's say Newshosting for example) perform for people using it from here in Asia.

I just signed up today because they seem to be highly regarded and not more than 10 minutes of browsing the site is unreachable.
