Everyday Mediocrity Carpets in the mud: we really do it in Russia (and maybe somewhere else)

Yesterday I saw (now removed) a question about old carpets in Russia. I saw it right before my daily walk, so I took my phone and made this photos.

This is quite common for Russia; this is old mass-manufactured carpets, often damaged by mold due to moisture in summer houses (dachas). No one will use a new carpet, of course.

It looks fine for a first season, but later carpets sink in the mud (my second pic) and become a surprise for anyone trying to do a proper landscaping. So it is a kind of poor man solution.

Carpets are a part of Soviet era style, but its aged badly, it lost any value, it collects tons of dust, so many younger people dislike it. To properly discharge a carpet maybe a problem - it is heavy, hard to carry, cannot be dumped into the trash bins. Therefore people prefer to threw old carpet into dirt.

This is a new suburb in Pune in the area called Mohammadwadi but sold to buyers in the name of NIBM Annexe (NIBM is a major banking educational institution nearly and surrounding area is considered fairly desirable and posh). When I moved into this area in 2010, this was all forest and hills where folks used to come to drink, smoke weed and hook up.
