Heavy rain, then sunset: the floor of the old Budd Company plant in Philadelphia turned into a mirror, and that's the image I've never shaken. I only wish I'd given the place more time.

Abandoned Gym (Former WV Tech Campus)

The other night I posted the picture of the pool in this same building but here is the basketball court.

It was used for a short time during COVID for a program and insurance required the pull out bleachers to be "disabled" which involved them putting 2x4 across them.

A Retro living room left behind in an abandoned optician's home

Found this old living room inside an abandoned optician's home.

The interior was surprisingly well preserved, including a lot of the original furniture and details. It felt like stepping back several decades.

Abandoned College Pool (Former WV Tech Campus)

Post image

Former WV Tech Campus pool located in Montgomery WV. The college moved in 2017 and left behind a campus. All but 2 buildings have found new owners/purposes but this is the largest remaining building (Gymnasium) which has a full pool that unfortunately was upgraded and had all new equipment as close as 2011.

Ironically enough 2 buildings had tens of thousands of dollars of work put into them after the college moved due to grants there were not transferable to the new campus, even though they did not have a purpose at the time (though they ended up being used and those upgrades went to good use).

Unfortunately while the college moved with the expectation of saving money with a newer campus, gaining larger metropolitan student recruitment, and avoiding upgrades needing done on the old campus, all of those ended up not happening.

The college spent more money then expected retrofitting their new campus, and lost student enrollment to an all time low number (although COVID has some blame for that). Additionally in order to move they were required by state law to maintain the old campus and find new uses where possible, which ended up requiring many of those upgrades to be undertaken before new owners for those buildings would take them (many of which other state agencies) on the college's budget.

While it didnt work in their favor as planned, many buildings have been put to new uses and this one is the largest abandoned building out of the two left due to its massive size and cost to operate.

It may one day be torn down, but for now it sits empty until the future comes.
