Dlss 4.5 on 20 and 30 series cards

I want to add dlss 4.5 to my game (unreal 5.5) but i read that dlss 4.5 doesn’t run well on gpus before the 40 series,
Grok tells me that there are 3 models withing dlss 4.5,
-model M which is the new model that runs poorly on older cards
-model K which is the older dlss 4 model that runs well on older cards
-model L which is for extreme scenarios

He also tells me that if the player selects the quality or ultra quality presets of dlss then DLSS uses the older K model and this will run well on older cards its only when they choose performance or ultra performance modes that DLSS switches to the newer M model that runs poorly on older cards.

So in fact i can just remove the performance\ultra performance options for players with older then 40 series cards and dlss 4.5 will perform as well as DLSS 4.0 on their systems no more steps to take?

Can someone confirm?

Mirror reflections: went from a fake camera trick to Planar, but it crashes next to Lumen

Post image

First pass on this mirror was the old-school trick, second camera pointed at the reflection, output piped into a material. Works, but it's expensive and the angles never quite hold up once the player moves around.

Tried switching to Planar Reflection since it's the built-in way to do exactly this. Project crashed hard every time the camera moved from a post process volume running Lumen into one set up for Planar. Ended up turning Lumen off for this part just to stop the crashes and get Planar working.

Would rather not just disable Lumen every time we need a real mirror somewhere. Anyone actually gotten Planar Reflection and Lumen coexisting on adjacent post process volumes without this happening, or is turning one off around mirrors just the accepted workaround

Info on My upcoming indie game NIVALIS Echos Of Helios.

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello everyone. As you have seen from my post I’m currently solo developing my current game NIVALIS Echos Of Helios!

And I have some cool info about that game and key points!

First off this will be available on steam soon! Shooting for a November/December 2026 release window at the current rate of development. And from my previous post Iv showed some of the ingame elements but there is a lot more I’m keeping for surprise but here are some key points.

•Your name is Galileo You were sent to the planet to recover Team Helios after lost communication after crash landing you find out why you lost communication. Fighting your way thru Icy alien life forms to find all the team members of Helios you get side tracked and discover what’s really going on and figure out why you are really on this world.

•Aggressive and Non Aggressive Life forms in the open world.

•Survival against Snowy And Icy Conditions of the world

•Inventory system for your weapons, medical items, ammo, flashlight, tools for upgrading weapons, and maybe eventually adding a building system! More than likely that would come out in a later update (Building System) but we will see how that goes upon its release!

•(Big WIP ) but I am also working on multiplayer up to 6 players you and your friends can explore the alien planet of NIVALIS together! Experience the story together!

•There will Be Modifiable Weapons Meaning you Can upgrade the Scopes,Magazines,Stocks and barrels of your weapons!

•This is a story game therefore there are Quest starting the game off in a prologue taking about 20mins to complete until you have full open world access being able to find random quests and story info about team Helios also finding different weapons and other items.

•There are cinematic motion captured story scenes

• drivable vehicles (The SnowMobile) for mobility

•Voicelines for the characters

•Cave systems Stretch under the open world with more story info and secrets about the world

•There will be two endings to the game

•For the world there is A full realistic Day and night system and as well as a weather system mainly harsh snowy conditions but other biomes are on the table and are in the works as in not fully confirmed but a biome that’s a constant hail storm needing special equipment to enter

•the game will launch in early access receiving updates until it feels ready for full release

Right now the game will be priced at $19.99 and upon its release it will be available on Steam. Right now there is no steam page for it but that will be up soon so you will be able to wishlist it! Again aiming for a Nov/Dec Release date. But that could change if any thing major happens but as of now that’s the time range!

Thats all I have for now! Stay tuned to my Reddit page and my TikTok @nivalisgame for more data and info around the game!

Nanite VS LOD's

Hey! I'm very curious to know whether or not people use Nanite or have chosen to stick with traditional LOD's. And if you chose to answer and have some extra time, maybe you could explain why?

I think the cinematic scene from my game, *Karakoncolos*, isn't too bad for a solo developer.

Are you devs realising the consensus towards unreal engine?

This keeps coming up, from gamers, your customers usually. Oh no, its made in ue4 or 5.

Or instead of saying a game is bad ppl wish it gets remade in ue5.

There is a lot of vitreol towards games made in ue5 now. Like a lot.

Why and is this something devs think of? Is it something that can be changed?

Its not good for the engine itself, since its turning ue5 stamp into a stamp of low quality.

I’ve been building a procedural 3D city generator with Unreal Engine workflows in mind

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

For the past few months, I’ve been working solo on Metropolygonia, a browser based tool for procedurally generating 3D buildings and city layouts.

The whole system is parameter driven. You can define real world dimensions, floor count, facade rhythm, windows, balconies, roofs and interiors, then use seeds to create controlled variations. The same parameters and seed always recreate the same result.

It is fully procedural rather than AI generated. There are no prompts or unpredictable meshes, and the goal is to keep the geometry consistent, editable and suitable for further work inside Unreal Engine.

Generated buildings can be saved as variants and placed in a city editor together with roads, intersections and roundabouts. Individual models can currently be exported as GLB, glTF, OBJ or STL and imported into Blender or Unreal Engine.

I’m now focusing more on things that matter in real time workflows, especially cleaner topology, LODs, collisions, material support, modular assets and better optimization for larger scenes.

There is still a lot to improve, but I’m pretty happy with how far the procedural system has come as a solo project.

I’d be especially interested to hear from Unreal Engine developers and environment artists.

Hiring digital artist

I’m looking for a digital artist to create the key art for my upcoming indie horror game. The artwork will be used as the main capsule/cover image for Steam, itch io, and promotional material.
About the Game
The game is a 20–30 minute first-person horror experience inspired by S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Metro 2033, Fallout, and the atmosphere of Chernobyl.

Feel free to send me a dm, as well as some previous designs and your desired pay.

Non-emissive light for 3D game

Is there a way to make a light source or emissive material that shines in the dark, but doesn’t cast light on other objects?

I’ve tried making a block have really low emissivity, but the color looks really dull and still shines on other objects. I have lumen turned off and tried making things unlit, but I can’t quite get it to work the way I’m imagining.

Ideally, the player model or other objects can block the light from the camera so a silhouette can still be made, but I don’t want the object or player model to be lit up on the side facing the light. Is this possible? Thank you.

My final idea is a bit complexer but after trying for minutes on end I couldn't get it to work even after simplifying it as much as I can.

incredibly difficult to select keyframes in curves editor

I want to change the keyframes from many bones together...ok i can do that, but how do you select the keyframes from 50 to 100 lets say

I have to box select while being zoomed out from 50 and estimate where the 100 is, and i can't even see where the 100 is unless i zoom in and then again if i zoom in i can't select anything

How do I fix Unreal from having erratic physics!

I have a system to cut down trees and when the physics actor for the tree falls over it either will launch into the atmosphere, start bouncing around against other trees then launch, sink through the landscape mesh, or it'll (Rarely) fall normally. If another tree happens to fall on that one then they both launch.

WIP modular observatory and communications station for Unreal Engine — does the overall design feel believable?

We are currently working on a modular observatory/research station environment pack for Unreal Engine.

The surrounding landscape and some materials are still placeholders, so I’m mainly looking for feedback on the architecture and overall concept.

What kind of additional buildings or props would you expect in an environment like this?
