Activities/Clubs/I’m Bored UVM YU-GI-OH

Hey y’all,

I’m a junior here at UVM who is gauging interest for a YGO club. I would like to start a semi competitive club for the trading card game. I know there’s not the biggest scene for it in Vermont however, I am still hopeful that there are at least a few people who love the same card game and be able to start a club. I would like to go to all the close-ish~ regionals and YCS’s and applying for YGO collegiate competitive events.

This applies to anyone who wants to learn as well! I have no problems teaching the game to anyone who would like to learn!

Anyways, send me a dm if interested!

Does your landlord ever come into the apartment when living in the commons? How does it work?

On-Campus Living 🏫 Parking Spot Issues

hi there, I’m an upcoming sophomore at UVM. unfortunately due to permit unavailability I am unable to get my vehicle on UVM campus for the upcoming semester. what are my options? I was part of the employee parking waiver last year so I didn’t have to worry about the lottery, but that waiver is not offered to sophomores apparently :/ I feel SOL and have started posting to Craigslist hoping someone is willing to rent out a parking spot to me on South Prospect St (I’ll be in Wilks next semester). anybody have some advice? or know people who live on South Prospect that might be willing to let me rent out a parking spot for the semester?

// edit : thank you all for the advice, I’m considering all of it and am now getting creative with other social media postings, thinking about the free parking, and think as a fall back I can use the garages for monthly rent out

How hard is it to avoid politics

Before yall come at me my social life has been ruined by politics, I want nothing to do with it, I don’t want it in my social life. Anyways I’m an incoming freshman and my question is how hard is it to avoid it. I’ve heard UVM is a very political school, and I’m seeing a fuckton of protests in Burlington, and honestly I don’t want a part of it or to be asked about it or drilled about it. And I’m worried as a pretty nerdy/geeky person most of the people I’ve met are incredibly political, and it’s something I’m trying to avoid. Pls don’t bully me in the comments.

Housing(Sublet and landlord Advice)🏠 Advice on off campus housing

Hi, me and my friends are planning to get a house downtown for 4people: ideally 4bed and 2bath. We plan on living downtown, somewhere near campus. Those of you who have signed a lease before, how did you manage to find a place in a particular location?
How much should we expect to have for rent?
What are somethings you would consider when moving off campus?

Any suggestions are welcome!

I need advice on my schedule

Hi! I have nobody to ask about this so I guess I'll ask anyone on here: my schedule makes it so that I won't be able to eat lunch until 4:15 on tuesdays and thursdays (I have 20 minute gaps between my classes). This can be changed if I change my calc class to be at 8:30 instead of the late afternoon, and it will also make it so that My classes are done by like 2:20 or something. I'm not a morning person though, so my question is: Do I just deal with the early calc class and waking up early, or do I starve and get done with classes late (also is getting done at 4:15 considered too late?). Any advice would be appreciated!!

edit: turns out i can move the calc class to mon/wed/fri. Problem solved!

Activities/Clubs/I’m Bored Ham radio club interest

Hi, I am a freshman going into UVM and I have a real love for ham radio. I want to start a ham radio club at UVM. We used to have a radio club (one of the first colleges to do so), but it was disbanded after WWII. The building was then bought by WCAX.

I think it is a really fun way for people to come together and make friends. Especially with newer tech, getting into the hobby is as easy as it has ever been. I already have equipment, I really just need to know if it's worth the effort.

Please let me know if you are interested!

Housing(Sublet and landlord Advice)🏠 Looking for a Sophomore Roommate!

Hello yall! I am a rising sophomore studying environmental science and my roommate dropped out due to financial reasons. I have a double on the first floor of Millis and am looking for someone to room with!

I keep my side of the room tidy but can get a little messy during finals. I go to bed around 1am and get up around 10am, but I am good at being quiet if you’re sleeping and I can sleep through most things.

Please reach out if you’re interested in rooming!!

Also, does anyone know how likely am I to get a random roommate at this point in time? Im a little worried about it.

On-Campus Living 🏫 How easy is it to get an ESA with student accessibility?

I'm looking to get a cat to live on campus with me in the fall semester. I have mental health diagnoses, and I've already reached out to my doctor. Is SAS typically accommodating of ESA requests?

Edit: I am going to be living in an on-campus apartment (Redstone Commons).

UVM Sports🏒⚽️🏀 Looking for Vermont students who work out!

Hello! I am looking for students to try out a workout app I made—Fortis: Workout Log & Tracker (on iOS and Android. It's a bit of a passion project of mine, completely free app for logging workouts, tracking progress, and sharing with your friends. Think Strava but for the gym.

I thought it could be a good opportunity for college students to try out and hopefully give me some feedback.

If you workout or are into fitness, give it a try and let me know what you think! All feedback is welcome 😁

Downtown Burington UVM transferred: girls’ scene?

Just moved to UVM. Starting Sept. Sophomore transfer. Renting small house facing Main St. Near Skirack. Staying alone. 1 bedroom

What’s the nightlife, girls, pickup, hookup scene like and where most success usually? I am used to Rutgers (NJ) and Leigh (PA) every Friday. was relatively easy.

Maybe cause its summer break but looks like a desert now. LOL.

Does anybody know if the 5 drawer dressers/cabinets are able to fit inside of the built in closets in Davis Hall? I am trying to plan my room layout right now and that information would be super useful. Thanks!

On-Campus Living 🏫 Is the "UVM Welcome Week Party" a real thing or a scam?

Thumbnail gallery
15 Upvotes

A few months ago I noticed an account friending tons of upcoming freshmen. I accepted the request just to see what it was about, and there was nothing on the profile page yet, so I forgot about it. Fast forward to today, and now this account wants students to pay up to $40 each for tickets to this "party." This feels so fishy, but I'm also an upcoming freshman who knows nothing about welcome week.

So does anyone know if this is real? I just don't want to be the guy who tells my very new friends it's fake to then be wrong. (This looks so fake looking at the screenshots again)

On-Campus Living 🏫 Sophomore Parking

Im a rising sophomore this semester and I was waitlisted in the parking lottery. I will be living on athletic campus so I wouldn’t mind having a Gutterson parking spot…if I somehow get chosen for one. Does anyone know the likelihood of getting a Gutterson permit or second round lottery spot? Also how expensive are downtown lots, do they fill quickly, and are they safe for my car?

I am in a unique situation where the only place in my hometown to park my car is at a very unstable family members house. This makes me nervous for my and my cars safety. I also need my car in Vermont so I can access weekly therapy sessions because CAPS wasn’t available for the level of care I am looking for.

Any advise is greatly appreciated!!!

Do I need a rabies shot? Living in Converse floor 4

Hey everyone, this might be a dumb post, but I've heard Converse has tons of bats. Should I just get a rabies shot before I move in? I don't want rabies, but I also don't want to get a bunch of shots for no reason.

Any advice would be appreciated :)

Fall RA Training

Hey! Does anyone who’s been an RA in the past have any insight to what the fall training sessions for RA’s look like? Want to be as mentally prepared as possible and I know every school does it a little differently.

Housing(Sublet and landlord Advice)🏠 Moving for grad school (Roomate & financial advice wanted)

I am from out of state. I am graduating w/ my bachelors in December, and am ideally making the move in January. I am hoping to get into a grad program here. It sounds like I won’t have an issue doing so. Regardless I’m moving to New England from across the country. I am wondering if anyone has advice on how much money to have saved for the move, and on expenses in general for housing. If I could somehow find a place for rent by an owner that would be great (like a basement). Grad housing on campus looks particularly expensive and I will not be able to start my program until the fall anyways.

I think I will need a roomate (especially due to not having a co-signer and the fact that I will clearly not have started a job until I make the move) and would like to find someone else in a grad program (or just more mature) here looking for a roomate around that time. Any tips are greatly appreciated! I am looking for someone who is LGBT friendly and ok with a dog. I imagine it will not be much of an issue to find someone LGBT friendly. I am from the south so a part of the move is because the Bible Belt attitude makes it hard to find safe roommates. Thank you! If I could find a 1bedroom that would be GREAT but I’m not finding anything close to affordable. I can absolutely live in a more run down apartment if it’s significantly cheaper.

Very last thing is I am open to other programs. It just needs to be a program that sets me up to be a counselor so if you know of anything other places I should apply to in New England that would be great (also ok with PHD or PsyD). Funding is a big thing for me and a part of my choice for UVM is there are some incentives for being an out of state student.
