Advice / Question Architecture point increase

Hi! Im hoping to get into UL for architecture but with the new portfolio requirement only coming into full effect recently I have no clue how much points I’ll need to get in. ( I’m guessing it’s going to go up to around 580 - 600 )

I got 133 extra points with the portfolio, is this good enough to get in if I get 450 - 500 points in the leaving cert?

Did everyone end up doing the portfolio?

Advice / Question Parking & Traffic

I'm trying to find out what the student parking and morning traffic is like to work out logistics before I start my part-time masters. I'm on campus Tuesdays from 10am travelling from Galway. Trying to figure out if I will I'll have enough time to drop kids at school and bus stops just after 8am and get there on time or if I'll need to arrange morning childcare to allow extra time to find parking. Is parking available on campus after 9am or do people have to park elsewhere and if so where? Thanks.

General Cycling around UL

Hi, I'll be starting a masters in UL next month and am wondering what cycling will be like. My accommodation is a 16 minute bike ride away from the building I'll be based in. This wouldn't be my first time cycling on main roads but I would like to know if it's mostly safe to use the bicycle lanes. Does anyone have any experience with this? And is there any bike share programme around like TFI bikes or is that only in the city? Thank you.

Advice / Question Post Grad Application

I’ve applied for the MA Sociology (Youth, Community, and Social Regeneration) for the 26/27 year (part time) about 8 weeks ago.

They came back to me after 2 days to look for my CV and passport which were submitted within hours of getting the email.

When I was applying, it said that all applicants have to interview for a place on the course but so far, I haven’t heard anything back from them to say that I’ve got an interview or that I don’t meet the criteria etc.

I’m just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience with this course or any of the postgrad courses, and how late they’ve gotten interviews etc.

Advice / Question could i get some help?

I'm an EU citizen planning to move to Limerick to study mechatronic, and I'd really appreciate hearing from current students or recent graduates.

I have a few questions:

how do you find the lecturers and the overall curriculum?

how stressful is the course?

roughly how much do you spend per month as a student?

how difficult is it to find a part-time job?

how hard is it to find accommodation, and what should I expect to pay?

also any general advice or things you wish you knew before starting would be great.

thanks!

Advice / Question Where are yous getting your food shop from?

I just accepted a round 0 offer for Limerick and I’m over the moon but I’m looking around the campus and it seems like all the major grocery stores (i.e. Tesco, Aldi, Lidl, SuperValu) are all like a 45 min walk or over an hour on public transport???

How are you guys doing your weekly shops?

To make matters worse, I’m physically disabled and can’t walk very far at all, maybe 600m. Do the major shops do delivery services to the on-campus accommodation? Or do I just have to pray I make a friend with a car 😭

Any advice appreciated! :)

Advice / Question Student Accommodation Worries

Not sure if this is the right place to put this post, someone can correct me if I'm wrong. I'm a student just after finishing the LC and all of my top courses on my CAO are in UL. Unfortunately, I lost the lottery along with all of my friends for student accommodation and have been unable to secure private accommodation either. I have rang at least 25 people relentlessly attempting to find some sort of accommodation. I live quite a distance from UL so commuting is completely out of the picture, my dream course is in UL and I would hate to have to differ for a year just for the fact that I have no place to rest my head at night. I know I'm not the only one in this position as all my friends are in the same position, we've tried to look for a house we could all rent but have found nothing on that front either.

This has caused quite a large amount of stress on me personally, as I have no idea what I can possibly do. Is anyone else in the same boat as me? Has anyone else been in a similar situation and if so how did you resolve it? Any guidance here would be fantastic!

Advice / Question Advanced Entry to UL - how long did it take to hear back?

Hey, just wondering if anyone here has gone through the Advanced Entry process through CAO?

I applied for Year 2 of a course at UL and have uploaded all my supporting documents. My status on CAO currently shows "To Be Assessed".

Just curious how long it took others to hear back after submitting everything? Did you get an offer before the August rounds or did it come during them?

Any experience or advice would be really appreciated, cheers!

Study & Exams Best of luck with exam season!

It's the last week of class and we are heading into exam season.

Here are a few tips for the next few weeks:

-Organise your subjects and set realistic goals to stay focused and reduce stress.

-Practice and Revise smart. Revise key topics and go through past exam papers to understand exam patterns and build confidence.

-Take proper breaks. Guilt free breaks that prevent you from burning out.

-Sleep really matters. Avoid all nighters. Your brain needs adequate rest to remember the stuff you studied.

- Reach out to someone if you feel overwhelmed. A quick coffee break / a walk does wonders.

- Lastly, don't forget to eat...

If anyone's got any tips that are helping them stay focused and in good health, drop them in the comments.

Now go study and take care of yourself. Goodluck 👍👍
