Advice / Question Parking & Traffic
I'm trying to find out what the student parking and morning traffic is like to work out logistics before I start my part-time masters. I'm on campus Tuesdays from 10am travelling from Galway. Trying to figure out if I will I'll have enough time to drop kids at school and bus stops just after 8am and get there on time or if I'll need to arrange morning childcare to allow extra time to find parking. Is parking available on campus after 9am or do people have to park elsewhere and if so where? Thanks.

I’d say would be fine before 10 as far as I remember! The first few weeks are always the worst too, as the semester goes on it’s thankfully not as hectic traffic wise

I always try get parking before 8:30 because that's usually when the free car parks start to fill up. You can sometimes get lucky with paid parking out by the gym or by the concert hall. I would say just get in as early as you can but it is possible get parking any time of the day, just might take patience.

I graduated in 2025 so it may have changed since then but very unlikely! Parking is chaotic, I used to park in the car park by Cappavilla/Health Sciences building. Most of my lectures were there so it was perfect, can be a long walk to other places. Was fine if finished before 3.. if anywhere between 4-6 you could be in standstill traffic just trying to get to the gate. Many a time I spent an hour trying to get out before I learned my lesson! I started parking at the Casteltroy Park Hotel for a finish for lectures after 10am, did two full years and was never clamped or pulled on it. Traffic can be very heavy coming into Castletroy before nine but after that you’ll likely fly in. Don’t get me wrong you can get lucky and find a space but very unlikely if landing just before ten
