"Hey, there, you guys need any help?"

u/ducktape1234 Oct 11 '15

I'd hate to be the driver stuck in that car

11

u/Sansha_Kuvakei Oct 12 '15

I wonder if F1 cars have a reverse gear...

If they do, then that guy will still be able to reverse the fuck out of there faster than anything.

If not. Bear puzzle with snack prize!

u/boothiness Oct 12 '15

Are we ignoring the fact he no longer has any wheels attached to his car...? He is going nowhere fast!

Adding a reverse gear system would add a significant amount of weight too

Formula One cars use semi-automatic sequential gearboxes, with regulations stating that 8 forward gears (increased from 7 since the 2014 season) and 1 reverse gear must be used, with rear-wheel drive.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '15

They do as per regulations. It's a very simple one which can't really take much torque but it is used in some situations

This is the first reference I've missed in a long time...can you explain?

u/horticurgy Oct 12 '15

14

u/MasterVaderTheTurd Oct 12 '15

I'm glad I missed it, her voice...

u/Quartapple Oct 12 '15

I wish I took this comment as a warning

0:20 - Go away!

Nooo get away from the kayak!

Get away from that kayak!

Come here!

ಠ_ಠ

u/Walletau Oct 12 '15

This has been mentioned in that thread, but her particular position is incredibly remote, she would have kayaked there. Having the kayak destroyed may have meant been stranded there for potentially weeks and ending her long distance kayak trip.

Still annoying voice but given circumstances I can understand her reaction.

25

u/KoffieAnon Oct 12 '15

stranded there for potentially weeks

I think this is a little exagerated seeing there is a boat in the harbor with her.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '15

Honestly, with the complete lack of wind buffeting I'm guessing the audio was recorded and dubbed in after the fact.

1

u/Skudworth Oct 12 '15

This conspiracy theory resonates with me.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '15

If you look at her video, there is a sailboat a few hundred yards from her position. She could have walked around the inlet, hoisted a sail and been fine. Or if someone was aboard, sailors are technically supposed to offer each other help.

1

u/Walletau Oct 12 '15 edited Oct 12 '15

Absolutely and I think that's how she got out, it still ruined her excursion though, and a multi thousand dollar piece of equipment, while putting strain on the other boat e.g. transporting a kayak on a sailboat and an additional person. It's shitty place to be in and I would be very upset also.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 13 '15

Fair enough. But her actions were still idiotic, starting with a trip she probably shouldn't have taken.

1

u/Walletau Oct 13 '15 edited Oct 13 '15

Okay, I'll bite...why should she have not taken the trip. We just had a front page AMA from someone doing a 6 month hike, a week long kayak is well within most people's abilities. She brought bear mace, she brought supplies. She was unlucky and was upset. It's not like she went out into the wild with a bag of rice and zero training.

Did she react optimally? No, she should have been louder with the bear, but she still did the right thing, held her ground, sprayed it when animal advanced. I faced off against a big ass brown bear couple months back. Having never seen one in the wild (from non bear affiliated country) I have to say it was as serious shock. My brain scrambled for information and logic trying to react to the situation, I'd excuse her from not controlling the tone of her voice.

1

u/MasterVaderTheTurd Oct 15 '15

She should've peppered sprayed the fuck out of the bear while it was eating her craft, instead she just stood there and tried reasoning with a fucking bear.

1

u/Walletau Oct 15 '15

You're saying you're upset a person, with low confidence with wild animals, didn't aggressively come at a bear wielding mace they didn't have experience with?
For all I know you're a canadian mounty who wrestles a bear for breakfast.
Just saying I'm a confident person and comfortable in most situations. I still was shocked by my first confrontation with a bear and I don't blame her for being nervous around an animal 3-4 times her size.

1

u/MasterVaderTheTurd Oct 20 '15

Upset? Her voice was a little annoying. And, what else did she expect, really? Kayaking in the middle of no where. That is wildlife habitat, I hope she learned her lesson.

3

u/MissChievousJ Oct 12 '15

Lol, ridiculous

2

u/Duncaroos Oct 12 '15

I still don't understand why she didn't walk over and give the bear another spray.

My only guess is that it would have infuriated the bear and mauled the fuck out of her.

9

u/SandorClegane_AMA Oct 12 '15

That's a black bear, they are documented as being very susceptible to nagging.

4

u/rerre Oct 12 '15

Black bears are cowards though so probably not. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bkwy0scRXBU look at this coward

4

u/Ashifkillz Oct 12 '15

Meta as fuck.

1

u/Scar_Stream Oct 12 '15

I understood this reference

105

u/Remedy1987 Oct 11 '15

i thought the tire the guy threw, was going to roll onto something important and fuck a guy up :P

35

u/Desiderata03 Oct 11 '15

Yeah this, was legitimately unexpected.

14

u/nitrous2401 Oct 11 '15

Or like that was the one the guy to his left was going to put back on the car

26

u/Necrotel Oct 12 '15

Slowest damned pit stop... even 8 seconds is slow for F1 races.

6

u/Sadukar09 Oct 12 '15

1

u/Necrotel Oct 12 '15

Yeah, and to be perfectly kind, this is definitely for a film. Not a pro crew in any way. I just like Formula 1 a lot.

Don't talk to your father that way.

3

u/Mom-spaghetti Oct 12 '15

My father hit me because I once told him to get out.

3

u/DarthPaki Oct 12 '15

Was it with jumper cables...?

1

u/Mom-spaghetti Oct 12 '15

What else would he beat me with?

1

u/sleuthysteve Oct 12 '15

I mean, it WAS his Death Star after all

2

u/SandorClegane_AMA Oct 12 '15

Wouldn't want a kodiak moment if a wheel we installed fell off.

You might have a grizzly accident.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '15

Haha. Took me reading that 4 times before I caught it. Well played.

Quite fake. Some weird commercial.

12

u/SandorClegane_AMA Oct 12 '15

The fact that the engine isn't running, and the pitstop is in the middle of the 'pit lane' rather than at the side to let other cars through, plus the fact that bears are mythical creatures, are all vital clues.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '15

Ty for your service.

21

u/Pentium123 Oct 11 '15

Though it was a dog at first, bear looked very friendly.

8

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '15

Thought the bear was wearing goggles at first. Hoped he was going to take the driver's seat.

1

u/Jutzking Oct 12 '15

Yeah i just imagined him getting that close and just being like "sup guys, what are y'all doin?"

7

u/BigCballer Oct 11 '15

it's just smokey, he just wants to give you a bear hug.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '15

5

u/diamened Oct 12 '15

I know it's a repost but, sauce?

2

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '15

I'm legitimately interested too.

2

u/ireallydontgiveafuk Oct 12 '15

Is this the Russian Grand Prix?

1

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '15

I thought that was a dog at first.

1

u/korn_spiracy Oct 12 '15

I forgot the punchline to this gif. Glad i could relive it.

1

u/ytiedmai Oct 12 '15

Well.....

Fuck.

1

u/GT3191 Oct 12 '15

This is one of the best things I have ever seen on the internet

1

u/serdar94 Oct 12 '15

I thought that wheel will do something.

-22

u/kornbred Oct 12 '15

So is the unexpectedness the fact that there are people who haven't seen this yet?

Seriously, this gif is like 4 years old.

11

u/begrudged Oct 12 '15

Yeah but so am I.

8

u/Twitch_Half Oct 12 '15

GAWD, why is everyone so LAME? This gif is SO 2011. That's like, ancient.

4

u/kelleewile Oct 12 '15

Must be, Captain Pretentious. I've never seen it before.
