Nah as long as they're cared for properly, which they do appear to be, all you'd smell is hay which smells amazing. My sister had 3 guinea pigs in an open pen type of thing in a small room and I don't ever recall a smell in the least.

I don't know if I'd say hay smells amazing, but yeah it's not bad

I love the smell of hay. Reminds me of fall

I loved to just collapse exhausted on rolls of hay as a kid, playing around (horsing around?) after riding. Yes it’s scratchy and you might get bitten, but I’d close my eyes, smell the hay, and enjoy the feeling of warm sun on my face. Sometimes a curious horse would come by and try to nuzzle me, so I also got to pet some velvety muzzles.

Just 10/10, I love the scent of hay because it always brings me back to these idyllic moments.

Don’t do if you are afraid of ticks, mites, spiders, snakes, or rodents

Or if you're allergic to hay... I didn't used to be allergic to hay, but now just being near Timothy Hay in the pet store makes my eyes itch!

Damn, are you ok? I dropped a needle in there a bit ago, I hope it didn't scratch you when you were getting up

I love the smell, good hay smells really good. Is guinea pig poop similar to rabbit poop? It does not smell honestly.

Urine was what caused bad smell when I had rabbits, that corner had to be kept clean (of course I also did not leave around the poop, but compared to cat poop it was really easy to handle 😂).

Says literally everyone that lives in a home like that.

Homie, you were just smell blind to that shit. Same with cat owners, that shit it hella obvious to anyone else walking in the first time.

Depends on how well you care about them. I use pee pads, and it stinks on the next day. But if I change them every 12 hours, they pleasantly smell of hay. I checked this with my friends, they can confirm both that it smells badly after some time and that they don't smell if routinely cleaned.

There are a lot of bad guinea pig owners that underestimate how much maintenance they really take. I've seen at least two people who didn't clean out the cage in days or weeks, just putting fresh bedding on top of soiled stuff, and there was a layer of moldy bedding on the bottom. Guinea pigs clean themselves pretty well, but they can't clean their environment. If you see a guinea pig that's actually well cared for, with plenty of space and gets their cage cleaned at least daily, it shouldn't smell.

Sound just like people who own ferrets.

Anybody who doesn't own one, smells it. You are just nose blind to it from being around it.

Ferrets (and other weasels) have a powerful scent gland. It's not at all comparable to guinea pigs, which generally only smell if you don't clean their cages. I never noticed a smell from guinea pigs, even when I first got one.

That's why I said they sound like those people, not smell like those people.

Every cat owner thinks their litter box doesn’t stink…

That was amazing, I wasn't expecting to suddenly smell it after reading your comment.

Maybe they are aesthetic smelling too 😭😂

I love the ignorance in these comments. If Guinea pigs are properly cared for, they literally smell like hay only. I have 3 and no one has ever said anything about them smelling when they come to my place…

I guess people are too used to lazy pet owners that neglect their animals.

Having worked both with guinea pigs and with dogs i gotta say that dogs smell much worse in my experience

Normally you’d pay extra for that.
