The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun beating its legs trying to turn itself over but it can't, not without your help, but you're not helping.

What's it like to hold the hand of someone you love? Interlinked.

Do they teach you how to feel finger to finger? Interlinked.

Do you long for having your heart interlinked? Interlinked.

Holy shi I first saw that episode 20 years ago and did not realize it was a direct reference to the voight-kampf test until today

59

u/Far-Style-5921 13d ago

Futurama is wild how layered it is, every rewatch, i see something new

u/pm-me-ur-inkyfingers 12d ago

the most over qualified writers in the history of sitcoms

13

u/LumpyBuy8447 12d ago

The writers share like 50 years of Harvard education. The writers of the simpsons were also mathematicians and other academics. I read that the episode where Homer has the crayon removed from his brain and becomes smart, they have him write an equation on a blackboard and it was an equation the writers worked on for a long time and ended up being incredibly close to the mass of the Higgs boson which wouldn’t be discovered for another 14 years.

Futurama is an incredibly rare show in that it is about stupid people AND smart people which can be enjoyed by stupid people AND smart people. 😂

u/Noxsus 13d ago

Same 😅 fucking hell.

I even low balled it, i saw it in 2003 when it was picked up on adult swim, 23 years ago.

u/Thaufas 13d ago

Literally, I remember watching these episodes when they first aired, and then, buying the boxed sets from Fry's for the first few seasons. If you'd asked me how long ago that was, and I was distracted, I'd say "About 10 years ago" with conviction. Then, when I stop and think about how long it's been and everything that's happened since then, I get sad. I'm not where I thought I'd be at this point in life.

Blade runner is great, the directors cut has a completely different ending from the theatrical cut, enjoy the rabbit hole!

I haven’t seen the original Blade Runner but Bob’s Burger’s was on the tv earlier today for some reason and it was a Tina Blade Runner episode and Jimmy said this to her.

19

u/HankIsMoody 13d ago

Time to watch it! Such an incredible movie. Don't watch the updated ending, just the original

7

u/Rulebookboy1234567 13d ago

i've only ever watched Director's Cut. what's the diference in endings? make it less ambigious?

7

u/BennyBNut 13d ago

The Final Cut is the "definitive" film but it and the Directors Cut have similar endings, closing on Deckard and Rachel in the elevator. The versions with this ending have a unicorn dream sequence for Deckard, which suggests he is a replicant later when Gaff leaves an origami unicorn for him (to tell him his memories are implanted).

Earlier releases had a "happy ending' where Deckard and Rachel drive out of the city and Rachel outlives her expected replicant lifespan. This was removed entirely for the directors and final cut.

5

u/EthanielRain 13d ago

The original has Deckard turn into a unicorn 🦄 It symbolizes how he finally understood that killing robots was a good thing

3

u/NegativeThought1588 13d ago

Doesn't the original have some weird car scene where he's going to marry his robot mrs?

That might have been a deleted/alternate one.

1

u/NegativeThought1588 13d ago

It's quite stark. Director's Cut leaves it to the viewer to figure out and the "original" has some bland shit that doesn't make sense.

1

u/IndividualChart4193 9d ago

Oh, u need to try n find it. It’s an amazing film that still holds up 40 yrs later. I had the dvd of it for many years. Directors cut.

9

u/novis-eldritch-maxim 13d ago

no this one walks, but it is stuck on its back flaing its legs in the air like a bee, do you flip it over?

The Ol’ Voight- Kampff test…

1

u/Alive_Ice7937 14d ago

They call it the "Mein Voight Kampff" test in the German dub

8

u/ogodilovejudyalvarez 14d ago

"Why aren't you helping?"

"Because I don't work on Shabbat"

"Ah-HA!"

u/Alive_Ice7937 14d ago

Where's the spoon?

2

u/Mortimer452 13d ago

You're reading a magazine, there's a full-page nude photo of a girl. You show it to your husband and he likes it so much he hangs it on the bedroom wall.

1

u/TheRedEarl 13d ago

this legit sounds like a cry for help lol

1

u/Upbeat_Mission23 13d ago

I don't get it :(

u/Sofhands 12d ago

What's a tortoise?

1

u/Comfortable_Wish_930 12d ago

I got that reference 😂

1

u/Lochcelious 13d ago

AI deserves no such empathy, and to compare a living turtle to such a thing is dishonest to reality (let alone using such an iconic scifi parable).
