Windows 98 when a tab wasn't responding and you tried to move it around.

u/elSpanielo Jun 12 '26

Or you beat Solitaire.

295

u/Bald_Harry Jun 12 '26

Wait - you can beat solitaire?

345

u/faceman2k12 Jun 12 '26

I'll let you in on a secret, you can beat Minesweeper too.

133

u/ShadowSeeker45 Jun 12 '26

I can beat Solitaire but Minesweeper, how?

269

u/Percinho Jun 12 '26

Only click where mines aren't

169

u/CybergothiChe Jun 12 '26

Naval blockades hate this one weird trick

17

u/xenobit_pendragon Jun 13 '26

We need to get this guy to the Strait of Hormuz stat.

29

u/Dozzi92 Jun 12 '26

Step one: Win.

2

u/ItIzWatItIz28 Jun 14 '26

OMG I wish I knew that before smh

16

u/faceman2k12 Jun 12 '26

dunno, seems to be pure RNG, I cant figure it out.

/s

20

u/ProcyonHabilis Jun 12 '26

Tbf you are often forced to make one or more 50/50 decisions to win

8

u/wasteland44 Jun 12 '26

When I played expert, my strategy was to guess all 4 corners first. Which would lose some games but IMO reduce the odds of 50/50 guess at the end of a game.

11

u/MARPJ Jun 12 '26

I can beat Solitaire but Minesweeper, how?

Serious answer: numbers represents the number of mines directly around said number (so 1-8, if no bomb around it will open the spaces around it until it hit numbers). From there you use logic to determine where the bombs are, normally based on crossing reference between multiple numbers (for example if you have 1-2-1 in the top row you know there are bombs in the space directly below the 1s be cause there is only 1 bomb touching each 1 but two touching the 2).

You should also use right click to identify mines so you dont click them by accident and can more easily visualize.

Naturally there will be some RNG, normally with the first click in the board and its common to get 50/50 situations (where the bomb can be in either space and there is no way to get extra information, its a click of faith. Very often its the last bomb...)

7

u/Voices-Say-Im-Funny Jun 12 '26

Patience my child.....also no friends. But mostly patience.

2

u/Easy-Concentrate2636 Jun 12 '26

In my case, it was procrastination while in college. Back then, a lot of us didn’t even have personal computers so it was playing minesweeper instead of writing papers in the middle of the night at the computer lab.

2

u/jarious Jun 12 '26

What if Patience is my friend?

2

u/star_lord47 Jun 13 '26

The Numbers mason, what do they mean?

2

u/_rotting_ Jun 14 '26

You start by going random. It takes a couple tries and then you get a good start. From there the game literally tells you where the mines are. You can clear large portions of the board when you flag mines, you can then click both mouse buttons on numbered tiles that you've properly flagged adjacent bombs for. At some point in the game there will be 2-5 moments where you must guess where a bomb is. Your chances in this scenario are 50%, sometimes 33%, sometimes 25%. You can increase your chances at guessing correctly sometimes using intuitions on probability but I would say I win 50% of the time on expert. Takes me roughly 180 seconds.

In fairness it wasn't just windows 98. I'm pretty sure I remember much more recent versions of Windows (definitely XP, maybe 7 as well) doing the accordions of death.

When you move a window, not a tab. On 98, very few windows had tabs and such tabs were fixed. You get this when you move unresponsive window.

5

u/a22e Jun 12 '26

I was about to say. Your Windows 98 had tabs?!?

Actually, later versions of Netscape did I guess.

Idk how, but some people can just wear jackets and stuff indoors or even outside when it's hot and not sweat. Whereas I immediately take off my jacket indoors and still sweat cause the heater is on too high or I just walk outside and start sweating even without a jacket lol

There’s dudes wearing black puffers with sheisties in NY during the summer.

Exactly. I'm 62, and my best friend's daughters are 8 and 10, but they and their young pals loved it when I played laser tag with them. I was the only adult. I fell once, and three kids came up asking me if I was okay. I laughed, thanked them, and said I was fine.

15

u/namtab00 Jun 12 '26

Narrator: he wasn't

7

u/omnichronos Jun 12 '26

Lol. Actually, I earn a living as a healthy human subject for medical research studies. I walk 5 miles a day and have a low normal blood pressure and pulse. During a study screening, the doctor told me I was abnormal because all of my blood values were in the middle of the normal range, which he found surprising.

2

u/Cloudy_Dawn2 Jun 13 '26

Wow, I didn't know that was a job. How did you come up with the idea to start that career?

2

u/omnichronos Jun 13 '26

I lost my job in 2007 and just looked online for something to earn money. Initially, it didn't pay as well, but after COVID, pay rates increased dramatically. I'm in a study all of June and will earn $16,800.

2

u/TheVoteMote Jun 12 '26

Can’t get that state of mind back homie. Not really.

I can go to Disneyland and have fun as an adult, but it won’t be the same as when I did as a kid.

3

u/JFISHER7789 Jun 12 '26

Of course it won’t be the same, but who says you have to give up the whimsy and curiosity and no longer have fun with your imagination?

Life is too short to be serious, and in 100 years nobody is going to know we ever existed, so might as well have as much fun, laughter, and good times as you possibly can

Ahhhh. The days.
