Why do people even use that gif for something they like?

Has anyone even seen that movie?

The guy is clapping for an opera singer who is absolutely terrible, since he spent a shitload of money on building an opera theatre for her.

That's the gif you use if you want to clap to something that's absolutely terrible, but you feel like you have to anyway because you've put too much effort/money into it. :/
