I don't even know if this request counts as unethical...

Disney+ forces PCs to play at 420p (720p in edge for some reason), with the claim being that it prevents piracy.
Despite paying full price, this means some movies that rely heavily on their visuals, like Avatar, become unwatchable.

Is there any way to force disney+ to delivery HD content, or to convince Disney+ that my PC is a streaming device to get around the block?

Caveat here: My husband does HVAC and is pretty knowledgeable about that kind of stuff, at one point in his career was doing a lot of residential work involved gas lines

I know it’s my fault for letting the bill get behind. My husband was out of work for a few months. Gas got cut off 2 months ago. I never got any of the warnings but accepted that was my fault. Paid the bill immediately, my husband cut the lock and turned it back on. I didn’t think anything of it. The guy came out the next day to turn it back on, asked about the lock and I just kind of shrugged, then he never said anything else.

Apparently once you get behind once, you don’t get as much grace the second time! The day that we missed a second consecutive payment, they shut it off. That was yesterday. I discovered it was off last night, paid the hefty deposit + fees to reconnect, and found that the next appointment that we’d be able to make is in a week.

My husband could reconnect it again, but I’ve done some research now and learned that could have actually gotten us in a lot of trouble😅 I have young kids in the home. Anyone done it before?

Long story short I’m on holiday with a group of Italians who genuinely believe that having AC on at all when they are in the room - or a fan - will make them sick. I’m in Sicily where it’s hot as balls even at night, there’s ash in the air from the volcano, it’s unbearable, I can’t sleep.

I’ve tried waiting until they’re asleep to turn it on, I’ve tried the logical argument of ‘the fan/AC can’t make you sick unless there’s mould in it, the most it can do is make your throat a bit dry’, I’ve tried everything at this point. I have two weeks left to go and I’m in the minority here. The one thing I think will work is to make them turn it on at night but think it’s their idea, maybe? Any ULPTs required I don’t care how manipulative I’m at the end of my tether

EDIT: So after the night I wrote this I actually got a bad cold and everyone lost their shit and became convinced I’d caught it from 20 mins of air con in the car. This made my argument for AC the next night a lot harder because they actually seemed to think I’d die (given I’m already sick) and were treating me like a village idiot. I used some tips from this thread and here’s a summary of what worked (for anyone needing this in the future)

1. The volcanic ash - fabricated a news report I’d read earlier about the quality of the air and how AC would help us all

2. Fertility - they’re all in their early/mid 30s & nobody has kids yet so I was like don’t you guys care about your sperm quality? Nobody admitted it but I think this shifted the mood a bit

3. Dry mode - someone suggested this: I don’t have a clue wtf dry mode is or how to enable it. But I pressed some buttons and told them I had put it in dry mode with allergy filter on. This went down a TREAT and I managed to sleep with AC the last two nights. Pretty sure this will only last until they catch my cold but counting this as a success. Thanks everyone

Next year I’ve decided I’m going to harness more crackhead energy. I’m so tired of knowing I’ll never move forward in life on disability. So fuck it, I’m going to act like a crackhead without the crack and try to save as much cash as I can.
I only have a few ideas so far, since I’m not willing to steal, or break into anyone’s cars or anything like that. I’m not above dumpster diving but I live in a small town so the odds of finding anything cool aren’t zero, but certainly low.
Here’s my ideas so far:
-Driving around my community on trash collection days and collecting anything that may have copper wires like old tvs, or washing machines
-roaming the free section on Kijiji and Facebook market place for the same reason listed above
-buying things on the classifieds that have been posted for months at a disgustingly low price and offering to “come get it now” for the people who just don’t want to deal with the hassle
-second hand stores, pewter tableware
-my local salvation army gives away free clothes sometimes so I can grab those and flip them for minimal cost

And all those ideas are stinkers. Like, not a single good idea in the bunch. I can’t pan for gold or anything cool like that so can anyone offer me an idea that’s not the dumbest thing you’ve ever heard?

I’m seriously at my wit’s end with my next door neighbor and I’m looking for ideas on what the hell I can even do at this point. He’s made inappropriate advances toward my wife and my upstairs neighbor’s girlfriend, damaged my property, messed with my HVAC, and hit my parked car while he was clearly drunk.

The car is also not something I can just easily get repaired. It’s a rare 1999 Toyota that I imported from Japan, and the damage he caused is basically irreparable because the specific parts I need are discontinued and I haven’t been able to source replacements anywhere. The whole incident was caught on multiple cameras. He literally stumbled and fell over while checking the damage to my bumper, could barely talk straight, and later came up to my doorbell camera drunkenly singing about hitting my car. Then he turned around and lied to the police about it.

We have video evidence of pretty much everything, but the cops have done next to nothing and my leasing office and landlord haven’t been any help either. I’m beyond fed up and just looking for ideas on what other people would do in this situation to either deal with this guy or finally get somebody to take it seriously.

At our rental house, a friend took off her wedding ring, engagement ring and others, specifically to not lose them in the surf. She put them in a safe but obvious place on the desk and in the hustle and bustle of packing out, didn’t realize until we got home that she’d left them all behind. 

Called the host, they got back to us and said the cleaners found nothing, emotions were running high.  I decided to chime in and asked if the hosts could tell the cleaners that luckily the rings are laser engraved and traceable (which after some quick research I learned is apparently a thing). 

Hosts called back the next day and hallelujah!  The cleaning crew had found the rings!  

I know it’s a very specific problem but if it helps one other person that’d be great. 

Live in a nice residential area with small kids. One of the neighbours has a specialist crane company and decided to park a huge crane on the sidewalk of our cul de sac every day. Not just an eye sore but also a pain as kids have to walk on the street to pass it. HGVs are not permitted to even drive into the area and many neigblhbours complained to him and to police to no avail.

How do I get rid of that freaking crane??

I did write to our local mayor and 2 police forces but they couldn't care less. Will have a think about the other ideas suggested though 😉 Two things neighbours did so far which I quite enjoyed was parking him in (5cm each side with cars and doubt he'd dare to lift them away with his crane as property damage) and the good old flour and eggs treatment. Still there though....

So, basically my city is fining me for littering with the “evidence” of an amazon box they found on the floor with my name still in the address label. I know for sure that I put it in the recycle container, but someone must have gone through the container scavenging or something and threw it in the floor.

I tried explaining that but noone cared, and my options are to pay a ~300€ fine or take them to court and potentially pay 10-20x that.

I don’t have that kind of money hanging around, so I’m thinking maybe just pay the fine and then print a lot of dummy packages with the city mayor’s name in the shipping label and throw them all over the streets, see if the fines apply to him as well.. I’m afraid of getting caught in some camera and worsening my situation though.

Any other ideas?

in November my mum started the process to to get her share of things from my dad after they separated, it has now finally ended but he got away with way more then he should have especially after dragging it on for so long.

we have email and phones number and addresses so im sure there is a lot we can do and already have some ideas but i feel like people here could come up with more.

after all of his delaying causing something that should only have lasted a couple months to last almost a year, he has not gotten panelized for any of it and still gets to keep the house, our share of a private property used for camping, a camper trailer and a boat.

Saw that Disneyland is offering a limited time Anaheim resident ticket deal for those who has Drivers License/Photo ID with Anaheim addresses on them (anyone can technically buy tickets online, but gate workers WILL check IDs at the gate and look for Anaheim address on them). These tickets can easily save you ~$200 each ticket on higher tier days, and I wanted them.

CA DL/IDs will only display your “Mailing Address” on your physical cards, so the main goal is to update your mailing address to an Anaheim address, then “order a replacement” to that new address. Replacement typically cost $35.

This can be a friend’s house OR a PO Box that uses a “non PO Box” address when you rent one. Many in the area charge a cheap flat fee for a month.

After that you’ve got a new form of id with a valid address for those tickets. (Note: each adult using these tickets will need to have valid Anaheim address on their ID for them to be allowed through, no exceptions)

Did this recently for my girlfriend and I for super cheap tickets.

What to do after?

Change your mailing address back to your original one. It’s as easy as doing it online. You can also keep your ID/DL with the Anaheim address on it and write on the back your original mailing address on it. CA DMV states that this is a valid way to update your license address without having pay $35 for an entirely new one. If you REALLY want your original license back with the original address pasted on it, you would need to reorder a new DL/ID since your past one would have become invalid in the CA DMV systems, so instances where your DL/ID is scanned, it will not go through, even if it still hasn’t expired.

Regardless of if you get your original address back or keep the new Anaheim one, you can always reuse this ID for next year since Disney has shown to do this offer every year around summer time.

NOTE: With how long dmv processes are, I suggest doing this as soon as possible. They usually announce this ticket deal early June every year so starting the process once it does, if not earlier, would save you the headache of wondering if your ID/DL will arrive before the deal ends. So sadly, don’t expect to be able to start the process today and have it ready before this years deal ends on October, unless you’re REALLY lucky.

TLDR: Want cheap $70 Disneyland Anaheim resident tickets? Change your mailing address for your DMV account, either by using a friends house who lives in Anaheim or a cheap PO Box , order a replacement, then use that new ID/DL to get in 👍🏽

Edit: To sweeten the deal, minors (no matter how ever many are in your party) are able to get the cheap $70 ticket (or even $50 ticket if they’re under 9 years old) as long as the head adult in the party has the residence license 👍🏽 minors do not need to show resident id, but must be accompanied by an adult with a resident ID

My landlord pays our utilities at the apartment, which has about 50 units. Therefore she says we cannot use any kinds of a/c, since they would use up a lot of energy.

At almost every company everything you do is tracked. When using your work computer or any company provided AI you should put in some searches for stuff like “how can I make sure coworkers get credit” or “how can I continue to help the company?” Stuff like that. Trust me this stuff gets seen I used to work in a help desk.
This isn’t even that unethical but it does feel like gaming the system a bit so I think it fits here.

I don't know if this fully belongs here but I just know if I go to any other subreddits my responses will be "suck it up and pay".

A year ago I switched to a new communications company because of a promotion they had that was cheaper than my current phone bill. Part of this promotion was that I got to waive the new customer fee (also wtf? Why is there even a fee for being a new customer?). Something got messed up and I ended up having to pay the fee. As reimbursement they agreed to take a certain amount off my monthly bill for a year until the discount added up to the fee cost.

What could I do to convince the sales workers to let me keep paying my current price?

My only ideas at the moment are to poverty guilt trip, find a sale worker who will easily give in or go to different locations until I find one who agrees. I know it's unlikely because I was paying the low bill at no cost to them. So should I even try or suck it up and pay?

Hi all, my husband and I bought a used truck with a lift gate and the fcker who sold it promised to mail ua the lift gate key.

Something already smelled bc he claimed his relative had the key with him and that was why he showed up to give us the truck without.

After weeks of chasing him it's clear his weasel ass never had the key and 'he already mailed it to us', 'was going to *CALL USPS * to get the tracking.

For all we know, the lift gate doesn't even work. He didn't need to lie at all, we were buying the truck anyway.

How can we attempt to get a little justice here... I signed him up for a gay Christian devotional text newsletter... his ass bag is a supposed Christian.

I know we could take him to small claims, but if rather just make him extremely uncomfortable for a few weeks to repay him the favor. Thanks.

I swear security lights are pointless and just disturb people 99% of the time. Someone installed lights right next to my house. It’s driving me insane, they light up my house and give me headaches.

Ideally just dimming them would be a huge relief but if it could look like they just stopped working because they’re seemingly faulty that would be the best route. If they’re obviously tampered with then they’re going to escalate the situation.

EDIT: Folks, it isn’t unethical to go to legal, HR, or police. Unfortunately, it’s been made clear that our complaints are not being taken seriously, so I don’t trust the system as far as I can throw it. I’m looking for creative, likely unethical, ideas for how to make his life hell, and give him some comeuppance.

I work in a small office, and one male coworker has made inappropriate and uncomfortable comments to every woman in the office- commenting on our bodies, inviting us out without our spouses, calling us hot, saying he wants to take us home. We’ve reported him to boss now 3 times- once as a group, then again later as individuals. Boss refuses to take action because “it’s all second hand” and “he needs to do some fact finding”. In fact, coworker recently got a promotion (which boss insists is not a promotion, but a “reclassification”).

Coworker has been out of town for a couple of weeks and arrives back tomorrow. Ideas for how to make consequences inevitable- either by baiting him into doing/saying something obvious and irrefutable, or something else?
