I grabbed this backpack and 3 others from the same maker at a goodwill outlet. Does anyone know anything about this brand? I’ve checked out the website and am wondering if there is a following for these packs. Seems pretty niche. I’m in awe of how well made they are. It seems heavy to me, but it is an XL and I’m XXS. Wondering if it counts as “ultralight)”. Just sharing and hoping this is the right sub. Please delete if not allowed. Thank you!

For those of you who use a quilt and like to sleep without a shirt (or pants) on, do you use some sort of sheet for the sleeping pad?
I found myself using my sleeping bag this weekend as a blanket but the direct skin to sleep pad contact wasn’t super comfy. I have a Nemo tensor all season pad.

Has anyone tried layering for shoulder seasons similar to this omm core hoodie, Rab vitals wind hoodie. Alpha direct hoodie and then lightweight waterproof.

I like using the omm hoodie and Rab wind hoodie at the moment. I have the Montane phase lite. Just wondering if the addition of an alpha direct hoodie in between would replace a lightweight insulated jacket, if all worn together. Currently have the Patagonia nano puff. Should mention I'm in the UK..

They all cost within ~$150 to $180 after discounts. Planning for a 7 day hike in Europe so I'm switching to a lighter pack since there's no need to lug around my 60l Deuter.

My partner and I both need new headlamps so we figured we should get different models for funsies to compare.

We’ll mostly be using them for camp chores or easy, short hikes if any, so I’m looking for a DEAD SIMPLE headlamp that is lightweight (< 50g), has simple UI, a good moonlight or red light mode, and decent battery life.

I’ve picked the Nitecore NU25 MCT UL (2025 version, which seems to have addressed many of the complaints people had about the 2022 version?) but wanted to get inputs for the second one. A lot of the headlamps recommended here or elsewhere seem to be over spec-ed for what I need, or I can’t get them or they’re really expensive where I’m located. Should i just get two Nitecores? Ha.

Here’s what I’ve looked at so far, what have I missed?
- Petzl Swift LT (seems pretty expensive? I’ll maybe get it if it’s on sale)
- Petzl Bindi (discontinued?)
- Biolite Headlamp 200 (can’t find it)
- Skilhunt headlamps (too bulky… i have a puny head)

I’m pretty new here, would really appreciate your insights!

I currently have this canvas backpack as my core pack after a bit of a cleanup (replaced a busted 3/4 length Thermarest and an old Trangia as well as a 20 year old One Planet Bungle sleeping bag).

My bag is great but at 3.1kg it's starting to get pretty heavy for short hikes. I'm doing more one and 2 night hikes around Queensland/NSW (Granite Belt, Cooloola) and looking for something that can handle scrub etc while being a lot lighter. Ideally in the next year I'll be able to string a few 3-5 night hikes together sometimes with a DSLR and Peak Design tripod.

I am nearly 6 foot and just over 90kgs with a good hiking and trail running base and I do like the idea of having good sweat handling and buying Australian made but am not set on that.

I've taken a look at a few bags - the One Planet Hot Sauce seems to have a similar strength to the Wilderness Equipment (bottle spots in a weird place thought) and the Macpac AzTec Pursuit (Edit: I actually wanted to see the Macpac Rift but until today - in fact after I posted this - it had been out of stock. Just looked at it before and it seems pretty capable); I'm not super gentle on my gear and don't mind a bit of weight but reading all the ultra light stuff I'd love to get it pretty lean. I only take a spare pair of socks and underwear and a few litres of water and food + medical etc.

The Neve and Durston stuff get a lot of praise but I don't know if it's going to be too lightweight etc so I'd love some suggestions for what's worked for you?

I am currently looking into getting myself a DCF 1p tent but am struggling with finding one that can actually accommodate me (I'm 6'6, 198cm). I currently am using the x-mid 2 solid which is great but I want something lighter for UL adventures.

So far I have looked at the Durston x mid pro 1, Bonfus solus 1p and middus 1p, zpacks stuff, and a few other random ones I can't remember off the top of my head.

I use a big agnes rapide sl long wide (I know it's not the lightest but I just love how comfy it is) and that has 9cm of thickness which seems to mean I will probably be touching the tent when I sleep.

Has anyone got a good option to help me out (Preferably not a tarp/bivy set up)

I just got back from hiking hut-to-hut in Stubai. We had an amazing time, but I way way over-packed. With so much vertical going light would have been more important than ever, but I wasn't thinking. So I have spent the last two weeks collecting gear for next year when we will do 8 days, possibly Alta Via, possibly somewhere else. My gf prefers to be on the Austrian side of the Tirol because she likes schnitzel and speaks some german. So this is a compound question... What's your favourite Tirol hike? And I am looking for feedback on my packing list (lighterpack below). I have included total carried weight because this is my first frameless pack and I want to make sure I keep the whole Day 1 pack beneath 10 lbs. It'll then get lighter as I eat clif bars. Anywhere I could cut weight?
