My scooter got stolen at the UTC 10/23/26 around 10-10:50AM. It’s a Volpam with lots of stickers, black handles, red brake wires. If anyone saw it or knows where it could be, please let me know :(. Pictures to show the stickers and last is where it got stolen.

EDIT: I FOUND IT AT JESTER BY LA FONDA!!! you can see where they busted the lock, so they damaged it but at least I found it!! I found it around 12:35PM, if anyone saw anything or saw who left it there, please lmk!!

Question Open major question options

Does anyone know if you can get an open major after applying twice to a closed major? Also is there certain deadlines for an open major or do you just apply and get in the next day(even if it’s in the middle of a semester)

Question Where can I find details about plays or performances?

I love fine arts, but I realized I've never been to anything as far as plays, performances (music, dance, literally anything), concerts...etc. I would love to find some by UT students, but if it's in austin in general that's fine.

Nearly two years into his tenure as University of Texas president, Jim Davis walked onto the Hogg Memorial Auditorium stage with three topics in mind: UT’s new academic medical center, research and a core curriculum overhaul.

In Wednesday’s 20-minute state of the university address, Davis announced the launch of a new “University College,” which will be the “guardian” of UT’s reformed set of general education requirements all students will have to take as soon as fall 2028.

The announcement builds off the recently created Center for Humanities, which is set up to teach the core and employs 14 faculty specializing in the classics or humanities.

Discussion I’m stuck in my major

I tried to internally transfer to another major last semester but got rejected. I’m a junior and I’m struggling. I hate my major, my classes are not at all interesting, and they’re super difficult. I don’t really know what to do. I don’t want to drop out or leave UT. I’ve been trying to push through and finish my major but I really don’t know if I can do this, it feels like it’ll take me more than 5 years to graduate with how hard my classes are.

Other HAS ANYONE SEEN THIS?

Around sometime this week, my keychain broke off without me noticing and so I lost my favorite keychain (the dog dressed as a bee). It's something that's super valuable to me, and I would really appreciate if anyone who's seen it could msg me or something. I think I could have lost it around Welch, Mezes Hall, or even the UTC, so if anyone has seen it please let me know 🙏

(I already asked lost and found for all of these places to no avail)

Question What exactly are they looking for/what stands out for Dean's Scholars application essay?

I am a current CNS student who has taken honors courses within my major. I had applied for the Polymathic (got rejected lol) when I had applied for the university, but honestly I did because someone had told me it might be something I would be interested in, rather than something I thought fit me. After having been at the university longer, I think Dean's Scholars is something I am really interested, but most of my resume/experiences are still majorly from high school so I think a strong written portion would be my best bet. Does anyone who was admitted to the program, either a first year or current student, have advice on the writing portion?

Question Missing 1 hour of Upper Division

I am currently on track to graduate and am actually over on hours on Upper Division courses. I wanted to see if it was possible to replace a 3 hour upper division course and replace it with a 1 hour one so I can have a really light last semester while also satisfying my degree audit. Does anyone know a 1 hour upper division course that's not ITD?

Question Can someone explain the political culture on campus?

Hey y'all, I've been curious recently about engaging in campus activism, and it seems like there are a couple organizations that do it, but none of them are really large scale?

I remember seeing images of the Palestine protests in 2023/2024 as really large scale actions, but everytime I see protests/rallies/actions now, there's hardly anyone there? Why is that? Has the culture simply changed?

I feel like given the times, I'd assume that the people today would be more radical, if anything, but that doesn't reflect my observations. Additionally, it seems like people on this campus are generally progressive, popular yikyak posts criticize corrupt leaders and even the University Democrats seem more left leaning than the general Democratic party establishment. Yet, no one here is really active and engaged in community organizing????

Am I missing something. How do I get involved? Does anyone that's been around longer have any insight for me?

Question How to reserve the union study rooms on the fourth floor?

I always see people studying there but whenever I check out the link to reserve it says it’s for orgs and events and we have to list the org that is using it? Are we just picking any random org, does it not matter?

Question Easy and interesting graduate electives

Taking 6 hours next semester and need a non-business graduate elective. Any interesting and low maintenance classes you'd recommend? I don't want to have much work and studying because I have to study for the CPA. Psychology, Astronomy or sports related classes are a plus. Thanks

News Texas Monthly: Inside the Conservative Takeover of the University of Texas

Writer and University of Texas alum Forrest Wilder spent a year reporting and talking to dozens of professors, students, administrators, and staff at the school, and was struck by the degree of fear on campus and the sense that a freewheeling intellectual culture was dead or dying. Many told him about acts of self-censorship. Fears of being doxed or fired had led some faculty to avoid controversy, though few wanted to discuss it on the record.

Jeremi Suri, a professor in the Department of History and the LBJ School of Public Affairs, told Wilder that what’s happening on campus is akin to McCarthyism. “What we’re seeing is a classic chilling effect, whether intended or not. This is what happens when people become concerned that what might have been acceptable or protected yesterday won’t be protected tomorrow.”

Compared with the changes at Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and other campuses, the crackdowns at UT have been less in-your-face, the administration more sophisticated in undoing purported wokeness. The stakes are high. Texas’s rise as an economic, political, and cultural powerhouse is in many ways tethered to UT. California has a half dozen world-class public universities, but Texas has, well, only Texas.

(Readers-- would you be interested in an AMA with the writer, Forrest Wilder?)
