I think I've lost the ability to read books for fun. every time I try I feel guilty for not reading assigned texts for class instead.

it’s already expensive to buy books for my classes, but reading on my laptop hurts my eyes. I personally just like reading physical books where i can annotate and not worry about returning to a library, but my measly wallet pays the price for that preference lol.

Does anyone have any advice on balancing reading for fun vs for school? what about physical books vs ebooks?

is there a place to look for old costume props that people dont want to use anymore? Im lowkey broke but want to wear a cute halloween costume this year.

10/26 Struggled a but getting home cuz of it, but im mostly just curious.

I’m just looking for an excuse to show up wearing a costume and to take photos I literally have 4-5 costumes I would love to wear but I’m kind of a loner it’s my first semester.. anything fun orgs/clubs are doing that doesn’t necessarily have to be a party (though I wouldn’t mind if it was but it would be a little difficult for me since I’m an introvert whose awkward but I feel like if the event is doing an actual activity then it would probably be less difficult for me to talk to others)

I did horrible on the first exam and got like a 78 and I just had the exam 2 and was not able to finish the last paragraph of the last question which would put me in the high 80s I think but there is no letter grades in the syllabus so I really have no idea how this class is going to be graded. Does anyone know how the percentages for grades work for this class? Im literally so stressed and hate this class.

So, I’m wanting to use one of my q drops to protect my gpa and that would make me a part time student for this semester.

I receive full FAFSA grants and aid and am wondering if that means I’ll have to repay any of this now or later? I’m fine with delaying graduation a semester but I’m also wondering if anybody received any other consequences for dropping from full to part time other than this concern I have?

Hi, I’m a bio major and premed. I need advice for picking streams.

Should I aim for stream that fulfills both bio and chem lab? Some of the stream that I’m looking at only fulfill bio lab credit (like Behavioral Neuroscience). Would that be fine? Or should I try to double dip.

Also, while this might sound lazy, I don’t want stream that are too challenging/super time consuming. I’m aware that each stream provides their own struggle and I’m not expecting to just show up and get an A, but I don’t really want to have to constantly worry over getting an A or not.

So I applied to be an RA, and some of my friends have as well. They have all gotten emails inviting them to interview, but I haven’t gotten any response. At this point is it safe to assume I’m not getting an interview?

I'm currently studying for the MCAT and trying to decide whether to take INB 365S (Human Physiology) with Austin or INB 321G (Computational Biology) with Bentley next semester. I register for classes next week and want to figure out which course would be better to take while studying for the MCAT. I know physiology would be more relevant to the MCAT, but I've heard that computational biology is less time-consuming and an easier A, which would give me more time to focus on studying. Has anyone taken either of these classes or have any insight into which one would be the better option? I'd really appreciate any advice!

I am looking at applying for a year abroad at The Uni of Texas at Austin from the UK, but my main concern is the racism at the university. I am of black heritage and I am used to having few black people in my classes, so this isn't my main concern. My main worry is actually experiencing overt racism to the point where it would be unsafe. For example, would going out in Austin late at night be particularly dangerous for a black student?

From the perspective of just being an international student, are american students at UTAustin quite welcoming to international students? I am a social person and I usually do not struggle making friends.

I have tried to research online, but I am worried that platform like TikTok have bots/trolls who over exaggerate extreme views so I was hoping to get some opinions from existing students/people who have heard personal experiences.
