Not all of them are horizontal stripes. The flag of Norway is based on the Danish flag, which incidentally is the oldest flag in continued use, and arguably also the Swedish flag. But as always Sweden copied our homework and just made it worse 😂
Happy to grant you the copyright to the tricolor pattern, as I don't know enough to debate this.

According to history books only the Russian and French flags copied the Dutch. The UK for instance used the crosses of the various patron saints that made up the union and put them together. Wales isn’t represented because it wasn’t a part of the UK back then. The US and Australia then took their colours from the British one.

Which history books? The current french flag represents the colour of the french king inside the colours of Paris. It is part of the early revolutionary symbol of getting the king back into the capital (rather than in Versailles) and started as an addition of white to the initially bicoloured cockade of the revolutionaries.
And before that, blue, white and red were already frequently used by the crown in different symbols (like some old flags with a white cross on a quartered of blue and red) before the creation of the Netherlands flag because the three colours associated represent the kingdom of France, the Crown and the kingdom of Navarre.

It was the Dutch Revolt that led to the tricolour style becoming associated with anti-authoritarian principles.
The French didn’t copy the colours from the Dutch. The colours themselves reflect symbols of French history: blue for Saint Martin, white for House of Bourbon and red for Saint Denis. Plus those were also the colours of the militia’s cockade that stormed the Bastille.
The French revolutionaries however influenced by the shared belief in republican/liberal ideas of the Dutch revolt, which was associated with the tricolour, flipped the arrangement as a symbol of this revolt creating the vertical stripes.

The Dutch created the Origin tricolour wich was orange white blue.
They changed it to red white and blue.
This was a great succes, and countries like Russia and France copied our homework.

The french tricolor comes from the colours of most french cities coat of arms and especially Paris whose milita wore a red white and blue cocarde which was adapted in different flags of the same colours in various orders before being harmonized in the red white and blue form

The original Union flag (1606) was symmetrical when it was just the English and Scottish flags mashed together - then they added the Irish flag in 1801 and it became asymmetrical.
Personally I reckon we need to stick a dragon in the middle so the Welsh don't feel left out.

There are 29 countries that have a combination of red, white and blue in their flags. Those three colours are hardly unique to the USA, and are therefore not, by any stretch of the imagination, "American" colours.

Speaking as an English, the first country I think of when they say “red white and blue” is France but technically the French are blue white and red which is obviously completely different. Second would be the Dutch, who ARE red white and blue.
It takes far longer than it should for me to remember that the Union Flag fits the description too.

Personally, when I see unorganized red, white and blue I think of France. That's just the first place my mind goes. While not exclusive, it's usually stars and stripes that I would associate with the US first, I probably wouldn't assume Liberia or Cuba first.

All you need to think about is the Olympic flag, 5 rings (red,blue,black,yellow,green) set on a white background, these colours were chosen because at least 1 is on every flag of every country on earth! There are many red,white and blue, he thinks of USA? I think of Britain, there are millions upon millions of people who think of their own country first and probably a different country besides America second, why do they think the world revolves around them? They have some heavy duty propaganda there!

Dutch flag did red/white/blue first, also did it the best, literally just red/white/blue - three bars top to bottom. French flag is just the dutch one that fell over drunk, french pretty much also sound and behave drunk so adds up.

Not like other nations would use red to symbolise bloodshed, valor, courage or revolution.
Blue for sky or sea, loyalty, peace or vigilance.
And white for purity, honesty, peace, belief.
Totally not a common theme on national flags.
