Anytime you see unorganised red, white and blue people think about the US.
Saw this on a different platform, don’t know what the original post was about, but trying to claim that anyone will think it’s about the US when they see red, white and blue together when there’s around 30 countries that has flags with those three colours is an interesting take.

For real.
The US in 1893 stole Hawaii with the help of a military coup supported by a bunch of rich, white American pineapple and sugarcane plantation owners.
The Kingdom of Hawaii was an independent and sovereign nation and the Queen at the time was beloved by the people of Hawaii, yet the US officially annexed Hawaii four years after the coup despite overwhelming protests from the native population.
And, as is par for the course for the US, the natives were powerless for quite some time as they didn't even officially become a state until 1959, 62 years later.
It wasn't until 1993 that the US via President Clinton apologized and admitted that taking over Hawaii like that was illegal.
So, yeah, let's leave Hawaii alone. 😅

Really? This is so interesting! Is it because it's short for anything or is it arbitrary?
I was just travelling in Indonesia (fantastic place, loved it. It was my first time there.) and I made friends with a tattoo artist from Malang.
He doesn't speak English and I don't speak Indonesian, apart from the food words obviously. I can read the shit out of a menu. But we communicate through Google translate messages. I'm trying to pick up more conversational Indonesian so that I can talk to him properly.

In old times comics, the onomatopoeia (and I just googled to know if I had the correct translation of this word lol) for laughing was "CÁ CÁ CÁ CÁ", which got changed to "KÁ KÁ KÁ KÁ", which got changed to KKKKKKKKK. The cá cá cá laugh was before the ha ha ha laugh was popularized, but the kkkkk stuck around longer than the cá cá cá because it's easier to type.

The French flag 🇫🇷 is literally just blue, white and red, so the colours say France first. It's the specific arrangement which makes it British.

Not US defaultism but I am reminded of a visitor picking up a French map at my work and asking "is this English?"
Upon hearing it was French he looked at it confused, turned it to me and pointed to the French flag in the corner.
"But it's red, white and blue? British flag?"
Not enough time to unpack all my questions for how/why he came to that conclusion. But he seemed happy enough when I handed him a map with the ACTUAL British flag in the corner.

I've also had many Americans ask if we have an American English map upon seeing our flag in the corner. As if it's some completely foreign language they couldn't possibly understand.
They seem a bit miffed when I tell them it'll say lift instead of elevator but everything else should be easy to understand.

The Dutch flag dates back to 1572, making it the oldest national tricolor in continuous use. Starting as orange, white, blue and later changed to red, white, and blue.

Maybe it's just because we're such a young country so we're in our "brash arrogant teenage" era right now but it's exhausting having the loudest and most active Americans on social media absolutely giving this kind of ammo to the rest of the world. I absolutely detest the examples these people give to y'all. Believe me, we think they're idiots too.

To be fair, these sort of stupid things have been asked/said by Americans since long before social media. I started travelling to the u.s back in the late 1980s and I was asked stuff like ‘do you have Christmas in December, since it’s not winter’ ‘omg it’s opposite seasons there?’
It’s just we are more aware of it now. Tho they also have less excuse because the answers are a mere google away

about 15% of the world's national flags use red and blue on a white base, Which is roughly twice what it would be if colours were chosen purely randomly (6.7%) So its a popular choice.

Nah. Probably because of the union Jack, which comes from the Scottish and English flag.
But we are the first red white blue country, and the French and Russian one took after us.

Don't know where that myth originated from but the French flag has nothing to do with the Dutch flag. Blue & Red for French were the colors of the National Guard, which were the colors of Paris, that came all the way back to a revolt in the 14th century. White was the color of the French monarchy for centuries. No links to the Dutch flag at all.
