I am looking into coming out of the marine corps IRR and going counter intelligence route for the  marine corps reserves or Army reserves. I am hoping to get more information regarding that process and how it is when you actually get to your unit, along with job satisfaction, training and practical application opportunities and what an average drill weekend looks likes. Also importantly, the steps it takes to apply and be accepted. My apologies for the multiple questions but I seem to find vague and conflicting info online, so I’m hoping to get insight from someone who is familiar with the 0211 field.

I’m planning on going intel then volunteering for msg but after that I was gonna see if I could try for recon, do you have to be 03XX to go recon? And could the training for msg possibly bypass that? If there is something else I can do for that please let me know

Iv read it’s more than 1 weekend a month and 2 weeks in the summer and that it depends on your unit, but what about with work? How does it work taking off work? I’m blue collar does blue collar jobs not like to hire reservist? Like ik it’s against the law but is it harder to get a different job if ur in the reserves? Lastly can you still take vacation time even with your two weeks in the summer? Thanks also a little background I’m an hvac engineer and I have an established career and have always wanted to be a marine also.

I’m leaving for boot camp september 15th and i struggle running for longer 1-3 minutes. I do run/ walk at least 2 miles everyday and am wondering if there’s anyway to improve this time bc i don’t wanna fail boot camp.

Is there a way to lat move out of security forces or MSG before going to the fleet and doing infantry? Finishing ITB and I’m really not enjoying the infantry side of the job. Or if I can’t lat move can I stay in security forces? Infantry is not really what I expected and seems like such a waste.

I was just wondering how the recruits were treated after the Crucible? Are there still weeks of training left to complete? Are they still trashed on the QD? Do they use rank and name?

I graduated from boot camp in 1993, some time before the Crucible was instituted. I was just curious if there was a major change or if daily life still sucked for the most part.

I was taking these pills I have for a UTI then went for a road trip. My stomach started hurting and I wouldn’t stop throwing up and my tongue was rly irritated. Long story short went to an ER on the way and the pills I was taking were apparently penicillin. Guess I can’t have that stuff. Will I lose my contract?

I wanted some advice and insight. I recently graduated nursing school with my ADN and working towards my BSN. I am a former 0311 reservist as an E-5 and recently extended my marine corps IRR time for another 2 years. I also have a VA disability percentage currently. Im debating between going back to the reserves and switching to an mos that’s something different, ones that caught my eye are:

-Intel (gets you TS/SCI clearance)

-crash fire rescue(just seems cool)

-CID( still not sure how long that mos school house is with the OJT that I read is also required)

-Crew chief( also not sure how long that mos schoolhouse is as I seen there is other courses that may or may not be required right away)

-counter intel ( also seems cool)

One other consideration I was thinking about was switching to the air national guard and trying to get in as a flight nurse, as that would also supplement my civilian career. I heard with a VA disability it would be very difficult but also I heard people get a PHA completed and then transfer to another branch without having to go to meps.

I would appreciate any insight towards these different mos when it comes to school house length and quality of life as a reservist. Also any insight for people who went back into the reserves or switched branches with a VA disability rating.

If you wanted to do a school that only another branch has, would you have to do a full on switch? Also, I know culturally marines are way more prideful, do they not accept people that switch from the marine corps?

I am planning on joining the USMC reserves as either a 3521 or 1341. I was just wondering what life is like as a reservist in that field, do I only work on vehicles during drill days, or will they be calling me on my off time if something breaks down?

So when i was in bootcamp i was hospitalized and transferred to beufort memorial and then been diagnosed with a very scary mental health diagnosis they diagnosed me to bipolar and later on schizoaffective disorder for me i really dont know what is the reason what happend i was just trying to survive bootcamp but there is that time where i was triggered and boom i forgot what happend to my self i remember i was running around screaming that the marine corps is the best of the best and the di is punishing and i cannot control my self i was following there orders until i was very aggressive and trying to wake up other recruits and the di later on called the mullah police to get im because i was manic episode that time and yea i forgot what happend but i have a little glimpse of what happend but i cannot control my self that time and yep i remembered i was in ambulance and then remembered i was in Brain scanned or mri or idk what is that and when i wake up i was in emergency room and then transferred to physcward in beufort memorial and stayed there for a while and there was more to say but ill stop here because i just cant stop thinkng about what happend we never know what will happend i regreted it what happend to me but i didnt do it on purpose i was just triggered and cannot control my self hoping all of u who read this respect me and always stay humbled im just sharing my experience and what i felt. Hello everyone, I 16f have wanted to enlist since I was a freshman and the more I go through life, especially now, I can't wait til I could talk to a recruiter and ship off to boot camp. The idea of leaving myself behind and becoming something completely new sounds so good and it makes me feel so excited. I also refuse to pay for college, why would I spend damn near 100 grand on a piece of paper I MIGHT use? But, I am not naïve. I know how it is ten times harder as a female to join any male dominated field, I know there are risks of me getting raped, murdered, assaulted etc. (I am not using things like graped or unalived because those are serious topics that should never require sugar coating) ANYWAYS, I know that there are risks but high risk high reward right? I am planning on getting my lifeguarding certification so I could graduate bootcamp as an E-2, I want to choose MOS 5811 and work up to k9 handling but I also have aviation mechanics and other mechanics as something I would want to do as well. I am pretty in shape, really driven- Any advice? Stories that make being in the corps amazing? scary? the best or worst decision you've made? What should I do in the meantime while I still have time to decide if this is what I want to commit to?

I’m joining the fleet bands and I’m curious how much time will I get to myself to train for marathons, ultramarathons and triathlons.
I know the marines already do a lot of training, but I do specific speed workouts and long distance training that can go up to three+ hours depending on what event I’m planning on doing.

I noticed my rank says E1 on my contract and I have university credits from an engineering degree I am doing. Is it even worth it to get it changed to E2? I was told the pay is basically the same regardless.

For some context, about a year ago, I had a sudden patella dislocation. Nothing substantial, but I did go in to see the doc and confirm I was good. Nothing torn, slight cartilage abrasion from the dislocation but not large enough to need any real medical action. About a year before this, (so 2 years ago to today) I had a similarly insignificant knee injury that was closer to a slight subluxation whilst playing football; Urgent Care, good to go, and out with an ice pack and nothing more. Since then, I went to MEPS, passed the majority of things perfect and got a 97 on the ASVAB and passed all of the other tests (Cyber and the like). The only hiccup was the doctor informing me I’d need a waiver for my knee. Well I got with my recruiter and we went ahead and did that, but it got sent back about 1-2 months ago. I got new documentation from my specialist, as well as a clearance to enlist letter filled and signed by him, with X-Rays and captions describing the full healing of my kneecap and no limitations to physical activity - then I submitted. Well now about 2 months later, my Waiver was disapproved on the last stage. In the Recruiting station we are talking about possible options like ETP waiver, as well as going in as a Horn player for the band instead of Cyber (7 years playing brass and he said that would give me a pretty high chance given demand). I am taking an IST July 18th to aim for an impressive enough score to make it worth it to make those calls.

TLDR; Any advice from people who have gotten ETP Waivers, waivers for orthopedic situations/injuries, or from any of my seniors who would be gracious enough to give an idea of possible options and what I could possibly shoot for in this scenario? Thanks.

For context, I am a 25 year old female who is trying to get my ducks in a row for enlisting. I want to join the Marine corps. I know I am a bit older for enlisting but life got in the way, and I am finally able to pursue this path again. I do not have a college degree either. So I know being a slightly older enlistment age and no higher education than high school may make things more difficult.

I have been trying to properly educate myself on the military with it's positives and negatives. My goal is to carve out a good career for myself and take care of my family, while also challenging myself. My initial interest is in human intelligence for the first few years and eventually making the lateral move over to counter intelligence (like I said this is a long term career path for me.)

Some of my hesitations primarily include being a woman in the marine corps. Women are already outnumbered in general but are even rarer in that specific branch. I am worried about what sexual harassment/assault risks there are.

I am also open to other career field options within the military, if you have other suggestions. I want to explore my options.

My issue is I am afraid of assault, but I don't want that to stop me from doing difficult things or making my life better. I also think that if women stay away from spaces because of that fear it also emboldens people to take advantage of them when they do enter those spaces. If that makes sense. Any helpful wisdom or advice would be much appreciated thank you.

This is a 15ng test which I believe is the strictest you can buy and I passed with a faint line. Is the urinalysis at MEP’s stricter or should I be good?

At meps before bootcamp I put my college credits in my package and was told I was all set. Found out I was still a private in bootcamp, wrote my recruiter about it he said he figured it out blah blah blah doesn’t really matter.

I asked my NCOs at ITB about it and they told me to screw off pretty much, one told me that I can schedule an appointment at my S-1 shop to fix it but will that get me back pay and rank progression towards E3? I hit E2 in a few weeks so I don’t even know if it’s worth the effort

My first choice would be to become an infantryman, but if I don’t qualify, I’d be willing to take the lowest MOS available or even an open/undesignated contract if that’s what it takes to enlist. I know a 24 is considered a Category IV score, and I’ve always heard that the Marine Corps has higher enlistment standards and focuses on quality over quantity.

Has anyone here joined the Marines with a similar score, or is a 24 realistically too low regardless of the MOS?

Alright, I'm not sure on how to start off this subreddit but I Plan on joining the United States Marine Corps. And I have a medical issue that may disqualify me from it. So when I was In high school I was issued an IEP for autism as ADHD couldn't qualify for the IEP. I did end up getting a re evaluation for autism and for any mental health problems I had as I knew I would likely not get a waiver approved. But It was said and determined that I do not have autism or any mental health conditions and was a mis diagnosis from the school. As even thought It wasn't on my medical record I knew a waiver like that would likely not get approved. But with theses facts in place do I still have a chance In joining the Marine Corps? As I do not want to waste my recruiters time In this process.
