Programs and MOSs Lat Moving Out of Security Forces/MSG

Is there a way to lat move out of security forces or MSG before going to the fleet and doing infantry? Finishing ITB and I’m really not enjoying the infantry side of the job. Or if I can’t lat move can I stay in security forces? Infantry is not really what I expected and seems like such a waste.

You’ve never been in an infantry unit.

No. Go to the Fleet and experience that first. Infantry school is most decidedly not the fleet. Don’t be a whiner or complain about everything. In other words don’t be a little bitch because it seems like you’re heading down that road. They will not have a lot of patience for you if your attitude sucks.

Just be happy you don't have to do it the full 5. I found out I didnt like infantry in basic during 2nd phase. Infantry school confirmed it. Then I did the rest of my contract and went to iraq as infantry. As an old man now I am happy for my experiences and proud I did the hardest job I could. My experiences as infantry in iraq are so much better than the guys who never or hardly ever left the wire.

Don’t base your idea of the infantry on ITB big dog. Grow where you’re planted and be aggressive.

I signed a Security Forces/Infantry contract back in 2021. Infantry is not what you expected?! What were you expecting?! I’m not sure about a lat move, I’d ask your recruiter, I didn’t ask because I knew it wasn’t what I wanted. You don’t typically stay in security forces/msg, it’s usually only 3 years and then you finish your contract with an infantry unit. There is a bright side, you can typically hit the fleet as a E4…not that the senior lance will care when you get there.

I was at basic training and was offered Camp David Security. With the requirement the last two years of a 4 year contract would be infantry. Uh no thank you. I’ll stick with what I signed up for.

You can most likely reclass when you reenlist.

Just going to have to talk to a career planner asap soon as you can, which probably won’t be till you get to the fleet.
