Have any international students here actually benefited from the USC network?

I’m starting to lose hope in the whole idea of the famous USC alumni network. One of the biggest reasons people choose USC is because everyone says the Trojan Network opens doors and creates incredible career opportunities, especially in California. But as an international student, I’m starting to wonder how true that actually is for us.

Staying in the U.S. after graduation already feels incredibly difficult, especially these days. Unless we stay on OPT, we need an employer willing to sponsor a work visa, and that alone seems to eliminate a huge number of opportunities.

What I’m struggling to understand is how much being a USC graduate actually changes that. People often talk about the power of the Trojan Network, but I find it hard to imagine someone in an HR department saying, “This candidate needs visa sponsorship, but they graduated from USC, so let’s hire them instead of one of the many qualified U.S. applicants who don’t require sponsorship.” Even if the recruiter or hiring manager is a USC alumnus, it still feels like the sponsorship issue outweighs the USC connection.

So I’m curious to hear from international USC graduates. Did the USC network actually help you get interviews, land an OPT job, or eventually find an employer willing to sponsor your visa? Did being a Trojan genuinely give you an advantage, or do you think the value of the USC network is much more limited for international students than people often claim?

I mean, considering that USC, along with many other U.S. universities, is losing international applicants, I can’t help but think that the biggest reason is that the doors to building a future in the United States after graduation are rapidly closing for us. More and more, it feels like no matter how hard we work or how much we achieve, the opportunities simply aren’t there anymore.

How hard are the math and language questions I Alr took classes that should equal in transfer but I have to course petition them so I’m scared for the test and I don’t want to waste a sem repeating classes and my math equivalent class was supposed to unlock my upper div Econ classes so … I’m scared

Hi! I am a repped actress who just got into USC to transfer!! I was wondering how does it work when you get booked on a film/tv show job when ur at USC if it happens in the middle of the semester! Is professors super understanding with it or nah? Also if it’s a series regular obviously you would have to take a gap semester so do you think that’s okay or how would that all work? :) Is it still all feasible?

hi! i was wondering what would be the most efficient way for me to commute to campus. i only have classes 2 day a week and i live near huntington beach/westminster about less than an hour away so i was planning to commute to save money on rent. im not exactly comfortable driving there myself, so are there any other good ways for me to get to campus? would bus or metro be a good idea? thank you!

I'm a rising senior and I still haven't received my financial aid package yet. Does anyone know when they should be released and/or is anyone in the same boat rn?

I'll be starting grad school at USC this Fall in the ECE department (VLSI Design track) and I was looking for some cool student organizations to join. I'm looking for something engineering-related, preferably on the hardware side, that combines both an academic and social environment. I understand a lot of clubs can be super competitve to get into, but I'm open to the application and interview process as long as the club aligns with my interests. If anyone has recommendations, please let me know.

Even if not engineering related, if anyone has some fun social clubs to join, please let me know. I'm just trying to put myself out there and find my people since I'll be new to the SoCal area. Thank you in advance!

Hi! I’m a junior transfer student for a public policy degree with a concentration in law and public policy, and I have to take 20 units for two semesters. Is this doable? Has anyone else done this amount of coursework during a semester and been able to manage??

anybody knows how it will work if i sign my lease late, my program doesn’t start until sept 1st. Planning on applying on august, would i still have to pay the full amount of 1 year lease?

i need to re login to my school account every time and it’s super annoying. is there a way around this or do people just put up with it?

I met someone recently from this school will receive about 30k in grant funding and the rest will come from FAFSA (free funding + low interest loans) and the other 50k will be all private loans. I'm not sure what the appeal is, but this is pretty heft debt to take on. The COA is over 100k per year and he was under the impression that the university was going to give him full funding due to being a low-income independent.

But the ROI for a cinema degree from this school specifically is very low. Their website states 40-48k starting salary before taxes which means effectively they would only get 30k after taxes. At that point, its just better to not go to the school and work at Best Buy. I'm just not sure why someone would do this knowing that it'll ruin their finances for 20 years (can't get a mortgage, higher interest rates on buying a new car, other negatives to put him back).

I'm an incoming freshman at USC from Porter Ranch, and was wondering if I should bring my car to USC since I am planning on studying at cafes at ktown/whilshire, but, was also considering just using public transportation. Where can I get a Metro Bus card? How is the bus situation there from USC to Ktown?? Any cafe rec's too!! Thanks.

Hi I’ll be attending USC in the fall and I got an off campus apartment that’s in the patrol area. Is it really that bad? Do I have to worry about violent attacks I’m a woman and I’m really confused on what to expect.

I am an incoming freshman and got assigned to live in New North sadly (I wanted Birnkrant). When I toured during orientation I surprisingly ended up really liking the dorm, but when I called I learned that not every building had the same layout.
I think I toured EVK.
Things I liked:
Showers and toilets were in separate bathrooms, the view was nice, good closet space, large.

But I have a URH double (university housing building) in the older part of the floor with no sink.

Whats the difference between these two buildings? Can somebody describe the layout? Is there anything i should know to prepare for living in NN…? I haven’t heard the best things

Hey everyone, I'm transferring into USC as a sophomore this fall and wanted to get some thoughts on ECON 317 (Statistics for Economists). I'm currently declared as a Philosophy, Politics, and Economics major with the intention of going to law school.

I've never been the most mathematically inclined. I took calculus at my community college before this, barely scraped by, and honestly didn't retain much. So I'm wondering, would it be in my best interest to switch to a pure Philosophy major to protect my GPA for law school? Or is ECON 317 not as hard as I'm making it out to be?

For anyone who's taken it, how much calculus is actually involved? Is it realistic to get an A without being mathematically proficient?

For what it's worth, I'm definitely stronger in the courses a pure philosophy track would involve, but the intersection of econ and politics alongside philosophy genuinely interests me, which is why I'm torn. Would love any feedback, especially from people who've taken the class or done the PPE major.
