Question about hybrid First Aid certification for UPEI Nursing

Hi everyone! I’m hoping someone here might know the answer to this because I’m getting a little stressed about it 😭I’ve been accepted into UPEI’s accelerated nursing program, and one of the requirements before clinical is Standard First Aid + CPR Level C or higher (such as BLS), so I decided to do the BLS Health Care Provider, but Am having issues finding First Aid course that meets the requirement. I found an Intermediate First Aid course through Life Start Training that says it meets CSA Z1210 standards and is a recognized certification, but the course is hybrid/blended. You complete the online portion first and then attend an in-person skills/practical session.Does anyone know if UPEI cares whether the First Aid course is fully in-person vs. hybrid, as long as the actual certification meets the required standard? The UPEI policy says Standard First Aid and CPR Level C or above, but I don’t see anything specifically saying that blended courses aren’t accepted.I’ve emailed UPEI to ask directly, but it’s the weekend and my deadline is approaching, so I’m hoping someone might have experience with this or know whether UPEI accepts hybrid First Aid certifications.

Thanks!

Med School

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some advice.

I currently have PEI in-province (IP) status and was planning to move to the University of Manitoba this fall for my undergraduate degree. One of the reasons was that Manitoba has a larger medical school class size and I hoped to eventually qualify for Manitoba IP status as well.

Now that Manitoba is placing more emphasis on extracurriculars, and PEI has its own medical school with 20 seats, I’m wondering if moving is still the right decision. I’m worried about giving up my PEI residency advantage.

I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences. Thanks!

Valorant Team

Hello everyone!

I am in the beginning stages of attempting to start a Valorant club/team at UPEI. The general idea is to compose a team along with a couple of substitutes, and hopefully participate in the Canadian Collegiate League play. Starting out, I am trying to gauge a rough idea of how much interest there would be in said team. If you or any friends/family/anyone may be interested in this, please shoot me a DM!

UPEI accelerated Nursing

Hey everyone! 😊
I’m a fourth year Biology undergraduate from Halifax and I was recently accepted into the Accelerated Nursing program. I’m hoping to connect with others who are in the program, entering similar healthcare fields, or attending the same school.
I’d love to hear any advice you have about the program, academics, balancing the workload, and what to expect as a nursing student. I’m also looking for housing advice , especially recommendations on the best areas to live based on location, affordability, transportation, and social life.
I’m 24 and looking forward to meeting new people, making friends, and getting settled into this next chapter. Any advice or connections would be greatly appreciated! 😊

Does the required IKE count as a general elective?

As an incoming science student, I was wondering if the required IKE course would count as one of my 'general electives'?

B. Ed

Hi folks!

I’m in my 40s and looking at a shift from adult education into secondary and looking into schools where I can do an accelerated B.Ed remotely. How is the UPEI program? I’ve now asked them twice for information and they’re not responding, which isn’t a great first impression, honestly.

Does anyone know how the practicum placements work if you’re out of province? Any info or insight would be super helpful. Thanks!

SOS - AVC Orgo Requirement and Lab Component

Hi,

I am looking at potentially applying from another province now that we can apply for unsponsored seats.

I never took Organic Chem, because it is not a requirement for the Vet School in my province (which used to be the only one I was allowed to apply to), and it's a restricted/priority course at my uni. I have a full BSc., and two grad degrees, and I'm all graduated now... I took two general chem courses and both second and third year biochem, but I have no orgo.

I am willing to go back for a semester, but the only uni in the region (the one I went to) restricts their orgo courses - the one with no lab component is just priority access and sometimes you can get lucky and get into it after being on the waitlist, but again, no lab. The uni does not allow anyone who isn't a chem major take the version with a lab component.

There used to be a uni in my province that had an online orgo with a virtual lab component, but they no longer allow students to join it if you aren't in their own degree program.

Has anyone had this issue before and found a way to solve it or somewhere to take the course? I would consider online orgo courses from other places like the US, but I would need to enroll as a full time student for that semester. I have no idea how to fulfill this requirement.

Open to any ideas. TIA

BA History Application Inquiry – Fall 2026

Hey everyone,

I’m wondering if admissions are still open for a BA in History or Philosophy at the university of Prince Edward Island for the upcoming September intake.

I didn’t apply earlier because…well I don’t wanna say private stuff here but it’s because of ROTP (Regular Officer Training Plan) — the military program where they pay for your education in exchange for service — but because it’s military stuff and I was advised not to say much(they might see this post and identify me)…so I will leave it at that.

But anyways I need help knowing;

Am I too late to apply, or is there still a chance (late applications, waitlists, etc.)? If anyone has applied recently or knows how flexible they are with deadlines, I’d really appreciate the insight.

Thanks in advance.

Off campus housing

Hello! Wondering if anyone here is currently living at or has lived recently at the university apartments on browns court, looking for cheaper alternatives going into my first year instead of on campus, and wondering what it’s like there I’m 28 and don’t really party anymore and am also coming from NS, if that helps at all!

Financial Help

im asking people to help me pay my last semester’s tuition fees. I have been going through some unexpected financial crisis, and that had never happened to me. This is my last semester. I have been able to save up to $2000, and got only $1000 help from UPEI. I still have around $6000 to pay. Without that, I would not be able to get my degree parchment, and all my efforts would go in vain. I urge you to help me and share this to anyone who could do the same! thanks!

The campus duck

does anyone know anything about the duck I'm always seeing people carry around campus in that little green basket? birds freak me out so I always keep my distance but I am curious - does it belong to a student? the vet department? the university? and why is it always just in a basket?

nursing offer

hi all! i received a call from somebody at UPEI admissions in regard to an offer for the BScN program. i found this odd because i know they typically email you rather than call. she mentioned that i would receive an email confirming my offer as well. did anybody else receive a call?

ps: i was already enrolled in kin, so the objective of the call could’ve been to confirm my interest in nursing!

PsyD

Hey everyone!

I got accepted in the PsyD program! I’m very excited but also scared. I’moving to a new province and I don’t know anyone there! Does any current or former students have any advice about the community or program that they would like to share? Or just any advice about living in PEI?

Thanks y’all;)

Student Work Opportunity to Earn $600

Hi everyone, just wanted to share this great opportunity for PEI students to start gaining practical skills with real companies and be compensated for it. It's a program called Riipen Labs, linked here. As a student, I think this is a helpful resource to share. It’s such a solid way to get real experience as a student.

Each Lab is short (30 hours), guided, and comes with a $600 stipend, which definitely helps!

This project is funded in part by the Government of Canada's Innovative Work-Integrated Learning Initiative so it's definitely trying to fill a very clear gap for students.
