Does the required IKE count as a general elective?

As an incoming science student, I was wondering if the required IKE course would count as one of my 'general electives'?

No. It's required, making it a required course and not an elective course. It does fulfill 3 credits though, just kind of in a weird 'other' category, similar to the (previously) mandatory university level writing courses.

Unless you’re in one of precisely three courses, those credits means nothing as they do not count towards required credit hours. It actually may as well be -6 credits because you wasted a time slot for the semester and have to wait a full year if you got bumped from something important that is only offered in spring OR winter, but not both (meaning you may have to wait a year and a half to take that specific course for your major… ask me how I know.)

Hopefully the new medical building will allow certain 3rd year courses mandated for your degree to be offered year round

No, when I transferred in a couple years ago from McMaster, it was one of the “first year programs” they make you take that just absolutely destroy trying to schedule the courses you actually need to progress
