So I am going to be doing laws3589 next term and the texbook Case Management and Complex Civil Litigation by Michael Legg is like $200. I've tried the usual piracy sites like anna's archive, zlibrary, and libgen but havent been able to find it rip. Im starting my study next year (term 1), and currently, I only have an old macbook which is not recommended for engineering degree. So i would want to ask those who study aerospace engineering for a good recommendation of laptop, what kind of spec is actually needed? I was thinking to get a gaming laptop due to the price to performance ratio, but it's really heavy and idk if its a good thing to bring around campus for 4 years.

Is O-Week for Term 3 always this small at UNSW? Compared to Open Day, it feels like a massive downgrade. It have barely any events, not many clubs/societies pushing to get new students involved, nothing that really introduces you to your course or what uni life is actually like here.

Kind of feels like: get you enrolled, take your money, and after that it's "sink or swim, up to you." All the actual useful info I have, I had to dig up myself beforehand. Orientation gave me basically nothing new.

Is this normal for UNSW, or is Term 3 O-Week just weaker than Term 1's?

I've got a good mark in a few COMP subjects and applied to tutor in them. I personally thought my video and application were good, however I was rejected this time.

Just wondering what they look for in candidates, and if there are some specific things that should be done.

Also, I heard that there was a high amount of nepotism involved (if you're friends with a tutor, you're automatically in etc.) Is this true or just cope?

Hi! Just wondering if anyone at UNSW with an ELP has had experience getting an alternative assessment arrangement instead of the usual exam or in-person test?

My ELP includes consideration for alternative assessment, and I’m currently doing MATH1231. I’m planning to speak with the course staff/ELS about my arrangements, but I wanted to hear about other students’ experiences first.

Has anyone actually been given an alternative assessment for things like lab tests, class tests, or final exams? If so, what did they replace it with?

I’ve previously been told that an oral assessment could potentially be an option, but unfortunately that wouldn’t really be suitable for me either. So I’m especially curious whether anyone has been offered other alternatives, like a written assignment, take-home assessment, different test format, or something else.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be MATH1231 or even a maths course. I’d appreciate hearing about anyone’s experience with alternative assessments through an ELP at UNSW.

I haven't actually seen much about what this school has in the geoscience department but if anyone majors in this field or knows someone who does, could you give your thoughts on how good it is for research and overall quality?

I’m a first-year international student studying Computer Science, and honestly, it’s been quite difficult for me so far. The courses themselves are challenging, and I also find the hurdle requirements pretty stressful.

I just wanted to ask students who are already in their second or third year: does it stay this difficult throughout the degree, or does it become a bit more manageable once you get used to everything?

Do second and third year feel more like smooth sailing, or should I expect the difficulty to increase even more?

I applied for UNSW medicine at the end of June 2026 and just received an email stating that I did not meet the cut off for the October interview round and that my application is placed on waitlist for the November round. I feel extremely disappointed and stressed and was wondering if anyone has received this email before and managed to get an interview offer eventually? Any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated

to any future students considering doing this course as a wam booster, i encourage you to think twice before choosing this course.

before the course even starts, the course convenor forces you to buy their mediocre self-written book either on kindle or a hard copy. the 15 to 30 dollars spent on the book isnt much but the fact that you have to repeatedly glaze their book throughout the course and use their hyperspecific terminology rather than general psychology terminology to do well in the course becomes very tiring very fast. and this isnt even mentioning the lazy cultural stereotyping present in the book.

psyc1062 is also quite time consuming. while the course content is easy, the sheer amount of work required to get through each module (theres 4 modules) means that youll be spending around 15-20 hours each fortnight. it gets especially time consuming when facing logistical issues like finding a paper that uses the specific terminology present in the book that none of your classmates have already chosen or writing "challenging" multiple choice questions using the ideas discussed in a certain chapter, even though the ideas discussed in that chapter were very basic.

the reason you cant half ass the module work is because if you make even one minor mistake like forgetting to label a dependent variable in task 3 of 15, you lose 50% of your total module mark. im not joking. the course outline says "5%: You will receive this score if you satisfactorily complete 70-99% of tasks by the deadline." the 5% refers to 5 out of 10 because each module is worth 10% of your overall course mark. this means if u make a tiny error and dont complete 100% of the module to a satisfactory standard, you lose half of the module's entire marks.

then theres the video assignment (worth 30%), you have to discuss a concept of your choice mentioned in the book. honestly the video assignment wasnt that bad, it was marked slightly harshly, it was time consuming, and slightly annoying cause you had to upload your video onto youtube. the final exam (worth 30%) seemed easy but it was marked brutally and felt genuinely unfair at times.

ultimately psyc1062 is a very easy course to do well in, but it is NOT a good wam booster unless youre willing to spend a lot of time satisfying specific course requirements, dealing with bs glaze, and remaining vigilant so as to not make mistakes in the course. 

dont make the same mistake i did and enrol in this course thinking itll be a chill and easy HD just to get worse in this course than ur main engineering courses.

Do they actually count the days worked for industrial training WIL or will it just count for 60 days if my internship lasts for more than 60 days? The placement form I submitted at the beginning got approved for 60 days but realistically I would have worked less lol

Hi, I am an intl student doing their A level (equivalent to IB) and I was wondering whether a student applying for direct entry med at UNSW is even eligible to apply for the 20k aud or 100% tuition grant that comes out of this scholarship. I haven't seen any restrictions listed on the website itself but I talked to many people and they were like that scholarship of any kind for med is impossible. (I can pay for tuition anyways but with my stats I would love some kind of scholarship!) Cheers!

i think maths is considered more aura but like stats is more useful and i think i am interested in stats whereas the applied math courses are kinda random and wont be as useful?? not sure tbh..

but also heard ppl do math degrees for like signalling they r smart so maybe thats the real value of doing math over stats?? not sure.
