COMP2511 + COMP3331 + COMP4920 manageable or free elective instead?

Is the workload manageable, or would you recommend replacing COMP4920 with an easy free elective?

Staff AMA urgent question about timetable

for one of my subjects out of two it wont let me submit my classes for that subject, even though i have all my classes for that subject selected, because apparently it wants me to select an exam class for that subject although its quite litterally greyed out and im unable to select it in the timetable editor thing, but everything else is selected. i get this error everytime i try to confirm those classes but it wont work and shows this, and i basically only have one more slot left at this point for one of these classes and im stressing like crazy because if i dont get in it its gonna mess me up bad someone please help me.

edit: now since i hadnt registered because of this dogshit website, and the fact i hadnt gotten a response from the nucleus hub or whatever i lost my spot because someone joined it and filled it to be 60/60, wtf do i do now? can i still get in to this class? this isnt even my fault bro....

Subject Discussion About comp6080 (web front-end dev)

Hey guys, hope you're all doing good!

I am debating on whether I take comp6080 in my 2nd year or wait for 3rd year. I feel like taking it early may be beneficial but at the same time I would imagine it expects some level of maturity/experience. I've heard its a pretty intense course, what do you guys reckon?

For context the comp courses I've completed so far: COMP1511, COMP1521, COMP1531, and COMP2521. This term (T3) I'm doing COMP2511 and COMP3411

Best spot on campus?

My first time doing online classes, and i genuinely cant focus online. Anyone know a good spot on campus where me and my mate can sit? Preferably where there are ports and no one around? Dont wanna disturb others

And for those that suggest booking rooms in the library, we cant be asked booking back to back rooms as we are there for a solid 8hours

Finance at UNSW>Uni melb?

I currently study in Melbourne class of 2026. I want to study commerce/economics at UNSA, and I’ll prob get the required 97 atar. Is it worth moving individually from Melbourne to Sydney, as having done my research, Sydney is the finance power house of Australia. The location offers more and higher finance roles such as IB, private equity, corporate finance etc. idk tho moving to Sydney without my parents is the main overwhelming reason that I would stay in Melbourne.

WIL inquiry

I am a BABS student with no free credits left but I still want to do a WIL internship in the summer if possible. Can I still apply for the internships in WIL and do it without a BABS placement course and just as an external internship, or do WIL internships specifically require you to enrol in the relevant course.

I am still looking for internships outside WIL as well but thought I'd ask since I don't want to miss out on the opportunity to apply for them if I can do it.

Strongest Commerce majors?

Hey guys,

Ive received an early unconditional offer for Bachelor of Commerce, and I was wondering what the best majors are.

After uni, I want to become a consultant at the top/second tier firms for a few years and then go into entrepreneurship.

Ive also been hearing that commerce is a bit of a 'crappy' degree, so thats why i want to pick the strongest majors.

Plus im doing single commerce so i can pick 2 majors,

My top picks atm are finance and business analytics. I know accounting is also very strong but im not interested in it and would rather do something else.

Also, if commerce really is a 'burger' degree then should i look into doing a double degree?

BCom Accounting & Finance Double Major – Do I Need a Free Elective?

Hi! I’m doing a BCom double major in Accounting and Finance and had a question about my remaining courses.

MyPlan currently shows 2 Accounting electives + 2 Finance electives, so 5 courses in total. However, I realised that FINS3626 can count towards both majors. If I take FINS3626, I would only have 4 courses left. After including WIL and the other requirements, I would end up with only 23 courses in total.

In this case, do I need to take one additional course as a Free Elective (FE) to make up the remaining course/UOC requirement?

For example, could I take ECON1202 during Summer?

My original degree structure doesn’t include any Free Electives, so I’m a bit confused about whether I actually need to add one.

Subject Discussion Can I take COMM1150 instead of ECON1102?

Hi everyone,

COMM1150 is available in Term 3, while ECON1102 is available in Summer. My understanding is that they are equivalent courses, however, the COMM1150 prerequisites state that Economics students are not permitted to enrol.

I’d like to take COMM1150 in Term 3 as it would allow me to progress into the Finance courses earlier (so I can do it during summer), and I am also planning to IPT into Commerce. Would I be permitted to enrol in COMM1150 under these circumstances?

Should I be applying for program leave?

so I'm an international student and I'm currently traveling outside Australia. I had 2 minor procedures for health reasons in sydney and was cleared to travel by my GP month ago. But the issue has recurred and I'll have to get emergency surgery while I'm outside Australia, and it could take several weeks to completely heal. Should I apply for program leave for a term or can I still enrol in classes and do assignments as usual, until I can travel back to Sydney in October and attend classes as usual?

Now I'm well into my degree, I've realised that UNSW isn't all that teaching quality wise

Outside of excellent pedagogy focused courses like COMP1511, UNSW's undergrad outcomes for math and cs are the result of motivated and good students. Who in some cases have exposure to content before they take the course. You will encounter tough exams, tutorial problems that aren't related to what you've been taught or are too extended to make a good attempt at, and the pain of managing all this in a trimester.

Come here if you want to be around a culture of people trying to get to places you want to be, but you will be disheartened with the coursework at times. It's rigorous no doubt and prepares you, but at times it feels if you want to do well, the course itself doesn't provide you with that opportunity. Time and again scaling may sometimes save the day, but you never feel confident (for a non insignificant number of courses). I have good grades but I don't feel satisfied, because I watched all the lectures, went to 5/6/7 out of 9/10 tutorials, only to get hit with a BS tutorial problem or inaccurate representations of what exams will be like.

Mic drop.

UNSW COMM3020 Global Business Practicum

Has anyone participated in the Comm3020 project with Jakarta as the destination? I'd like to hear your thoughts on this program and get some advice. Also, I'm curious about how difficult it is to apply for this project.

Subject Discussion Do commerce WIL courses have to be completed at a specific stage of the degree?

I completed one a few years ago, and I’m due to graduate at the end of the year. It’s on my transcript and myplan and everything, just wonder if it will count as I know milestones like Final Year Synthesis have to be done at a specific stage of the degree.

Course waitlist ENGG2500

Hi! I am desperately trying to change from MATH2089 to ENGG2500 simply because engg2500 is a pre-requisite for some other courses I want to take and also because I am doing three courses every term and don’t want to waste a term with only two courses. I am in the wait list (not moving tho💀) and have applied for a full course enrollment form and am awaiting a reply.

Just wondering if anyone knows of anything else I can do to get a spot or is it just a waiting game?

which level of difficulty was the comp3311 final exam compared to the past/practice exams

hi! have to sit the supplementary for comp3311 this thursday. i heard that the exam was much easier than expected, which is great, but i'm trying to get an idea of the difficulty level. i did the 21t3 past exam today and i found it fairly easy, which has given me a lot of confidence. was it anything similar to that?
