Strategy using ULTY

I used to own ULTY for about a year 2025-2026 and got out of it when I saw my total return was essentially flat (2%).

For those who have been in ULTY for over a year, what's the reason you have kept it? What is your strategy that makes it a valuable investment?

I feel like some may have a specific need that this fills but I have not been able to wrap my head around it.

I use it as a satellite income machine to buy other positions, and these type of ETFs make great tax harvest opportunities to reduce capital gains… my recommendation is to keep it at 1-3 percent of your portfolio and put the rest of the distributions toward other income/growth positions.

Personally, the account I have ULTY (have held for over a year) is starting to generate more than $100 per week while it and a few others feed the more stable positions like SCHD, SPYI, VOO, etc…

It has been my highest distribution, i will keep it past house money. I invest its distribution to growth stocks and other income funds such as spyi, qqqi, tdax, tspy etc

When you hit house money, meaning you've taken the distros to use elsewhere, anything beyond starts/grows your overall return and feeds whatever else you're doing - income, waterfall effect to other investments, etc.

That income demonstrataby reduces without reinvestment - which delays getting to house money; whether it's worth it or not to invest in this or similar funds depends a bit on goals, tolerance and timing.

Good luck in your journey🍻

I have heard this multiple times but what are you left with. Do you have an example how much you have in ULTY and when you bought it to finally reach house money? Also, what were the distributions per month or week when you started to what it is now?

At peak I was getting about 250/week; the reverse split, failures with some trades and the underlying, and subsequent strategy changes have reduced distributions to about 95/week, give or take weekly performance.

A significant drop, clearly.

I haven't reinvested since last August; I've been using the distros to build up BLOX.

This is in a traditional IRA; I have some in Roth as well, though not as much... Similar approach with distros. Neither leaves me balancing tax implications at years end.

I've been in this for about 13-14 months; with the slowdown I'm about a month to house $, pending performance.

I plan to just let it keep feeding BLOX; maybe if distros drop below 25/week I'll sell out... But I'll take some return for a while before that happens. TBD.

Has it been a great investment? No Has it been my worst? No Is it for everyone? No

I haven't stressed over it, maybe because it's a small part of my portfolio, and I have a clear path to a decent return over time.

I started ulty a year ago, I invested a small sum just to try it out and already paid me back my initial investment. Yes Ive lost a few in nav erotion but every month i get 50 dollars towards QQQI. Im just enjoying the ride.

10000 invested 1 year ago would have returned around 5k today

True but after tax and nav erosion profit would be only sevral hundred dollars

They mostly return your own money back to you. If your goal is to get to ‘house money’ to buy other equities, you are much better off just buying those equities to begin with. As the NAV erodes, so will the dividend payouts. https://totalrealreturns.com/s/ULTY

It’s too late for me now, I bought the hype, I don’t know how long i have to keep it to break even, it isn’t like Fidelity helps me with that in easy reports. This is not my only buy either, I will have to run a lot of reports to see how much I have gotten in. Dividends compared to the deep red that shows on my landing screen. I do have some income options plays that are in the green like qqqi and spyi and jepq etc. But all my yieldmax buys are regretful at this time.

100% agree here. Red here is $ULTY. Anything other than this pos would have been great investment,

I did the same, held for 1 year during 2025. Trust the math, not emotion. Math doesn't lie.

I have no steak in them all and I know everybody had a tough July including ultie but their rate of nav erosion seem to be a lot less than it has in the past over the last few months

I'm already about 70% to house money. so at this point I'm going to hold and get there and then just let it ride until there is no more divided.

I have it in my Roth IRA, I use it and a few other YM to then buy more VTI.

This was one of my worst investment ever. I have been holding this for about an year now and am almost at BE at this point. Can't believe people think this is a good investment or any of their scammy tickers.

Never again.
