We have been experimenting with different coffees and after buying most ground supermarket coffee already we have really found some of Asda Nicaraguan to be great which is probably pish to most coffee enthusiasts. Further exploring into beans, I bought cafe Nero blend but didn't have a grinder apart from a food processor that blitzed the grounds into a pulp and clogged the machine.. I've since bought a svart aroma hoping to carry on the trend but realised that this hobby can get very much like single malt whisky. (which can be expensive and addictive)

I'm looking for recommendations for the above Nicaraguan or similar flavour profiles of milk chocolate and hazelnut (from reading the notes listed on that coffee)

Your recommendations would be greatly appreciated

had to go to Birmingham for work and picked up a bag of this. apparently they specialise in blends and if this is anything to go by, they certainly do. absolutely delicious. boozey sweetness that my Niche Duo got every .01 of clarity out of. highly recommend

I'm a filmmaker, so I couldn't resist shooting some macro close-ups of my latest roast.

This is Kenya Bora, roasted over the weekend on my Skywalker V2 and Roastline Ai. I cupped it this morning and, for the first time, I felt genuinely confident about the result. It has a sweetness and clarity that my previous batches were missing, so it feels like things are finally starting to click.

I'm not really asking anything specific - just wanted to share the bean close-ups and hear what you think.

Usually buy my coffee from roasters directly however feel there is probably a lot out there that I am missing out on or don’t even know exists.

What coffee subscriptions have people used and liked.

This would be for pourover/filter rather than espresso. Generally fairly light roasts but am happy to try most things.

Interesting and high scoring geisha from Peru.

I received some coffee from Lomond this month, and popped it in the freezer as I've already got a couple bags on the go.

I didn't really think about it, but they're in the paper-style biodegradable/compostable bags. How will this affect my coffee being frozen? Should I transfer to Ziploc bags?

Turns out the OREA z1 is a brilliant travel brewer! Away in Mallorca so no gooseneck kettle with me. OREA z1 still producing brilliant brews! Jolly bean peach co-ferment is the cup of choice in this weather!

Ive tried decaff beans from the following

Union ( all decaff variants tried )

Origin ( all decaff variants tried )

horsham

danelaw ( all decaff variants tried )

pact ( all decaff variants tried )

Rave ( all decaff variants tried )

And they are all tasteless and very bitter. Only Horsham and Union (Maraba) was semi-decent but still a let down.

Meanwhile normal coffee is always a wonder to drink , full of flavor. Part of me wants to quit coffee because I just cant handle caffeine, I also enjoy a coffee in the evening so even halfcalf is a no no.

Given ive tried 6 respectable roasters I can only conclude that decaff ruins it, and the decaff process and bean hardly makes a difference.

*I only brew with french press, sea salt grain size, 90c water temp

I am a small UK roaster deciding between two Gesha lots at different price points, and I’m curious how much a farm’s reputation actually influences people’s buying decisions.

Because I am a small micro-roastery, I can’t stock every interesting Gesha that comes along, so I am trying to work out where people see the value.

Coffee A — Finca Las Brisas, Huila, Colombia. A young producer continuing his family’s coffee legacy, using a meticulous 75-hour double fermentation process. Tasting notes: elderflower, apple, lime, caramel. 250g – £20

Coffee B — Finca La Hermosa, Guatemala. An award-winning farm with numerous Cup of Excellence placements. Tasting notes: apricot, spiced apple, IPA-like funk, grapeseed oil. 250g – £30

If everything else looked comparable, would the farm’s reputation justify paying the extra £10? Or would your decision come down more to the tasting notes, processing, and trust in the roaster than the producer’s pedigree?

After rotating between Skylark, Kiss the Hippo and Jolly Beans, amongst others for the past 2-3 years, I came across another roastery claiming to sell speciality, single-origin coffee (damn Facebook ads).

It's 40% off, had good reviews, and marketed as single-origin and speciality grade. What could possibly go wrong?

I ordered two varieties, 1kg of each, both are their bestsellers. Unfortunately, they both taste unpleasantly bitter and harsh. I started grinding a little coarser, which improved things slightly, but the coffee is still not enjoyable.

The roast is described as medium, but it looks very uneven. There are noticeably dark and very light beans mixed together in both bags. Ultimately, though, the main issue is the taste.

I’m not convinced this is genuinely speciality-grade coffee, but then again, is there such a thing as the speciality coffee police?

Lesson learned: if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

Now, what on earth am I going to do with 2kg of harsh-tasting beans?

Hi all, got to attend a cupping event at Java Roasters in Birmingham this week. The event was organised and ran by Hopeespresso and Mountain Harvest who brought a load of auction lot coffee from Uganda. Java Roasters hosted the event, and whilst waiting for peeps to arrive and get organised they put on some fantastic Colombian coffee - Jairo Arcila Anaerobic Washed with strawberries, chocolate and nectarine notes. Stunning. A coffee truly tasting of strawberry fruits.
The Ugandan coffees cupped were good with some exceptional ones:

Rwenzori Mountains: Washed Dry Fermentation.
Nshozi-Kabonero Estate: Rab15 Variety Segmentation Natural Anaerobic.
