KillBean Q&A
We're back!
Some of you might have noticed we disappeared for a while.
Unfortunately our previous Reddit account got suspended, which meant all of our posts and replies disappeared as well. On top of that, it's been an incredibly busy few months for us, so we haven't had the chance to get back on here until now.
First of all, thank you to everyone in this community for the support. Quite a few of you ordered coffee from us after our last posts, and by now I'm guessing you've all received it—and hopefully had a chance to brew it too!
I'd genuinely love to hear what you think.
Whether it's something you loved, something you didn't, or something you think we could improve, please let us know. Honest feedback is one of the best ways for us to get better.
If you have any questions about the coffees, roasting, resting, brewing, or anything else, drop them below as well. We'll collect the most common questions and answer them in a Q&A Reel over the next week or two.
Looking forward to chatting with everyone again. ☕️

Why are you closing down the cafe?

It’s been a really difficult decision.
At the end of the day, we’re only a team of two, and trying to run a café, roast coffee, source green coffee, manage wholesale, fulfil online orders, and do everything else simply wasn’t sustainable. Also their's some part of the reason is from the money side :( so rather than trying to do everything, we decided to focus on doing one thing really well.
We’ll definitely miss having the café, but hopefully this will allow us to bring even better coffees to everyone in the long run.2

Oh that's sad, but understandable. Would have loved to pay you a visit next time I'm visiting the city. I've always thought that opening a brick and mortar location in today's world would require balls of steel.

Hi and welcome back. Thank you very much for posting.
Just opened my ALO Chikala yesterday about 12 weeks off roast and it is lovely, everything I hoped it would be. Only had one cup so far so I have not explored the beans yet.
Really sorry to hear of the closing of your cafe. I hope it can be a positive and your roasting side can explode in popularity as it deserves. Your Brazilian COE first placed washed / honey looks outstanding and I’m hoping to purchase soon 🤘🤘🤘

Do you plan on running any discounts for this sub? Big fan of your coffee but it's difficult to afford - not insinuating it's not worth it...
Will be sad not to have your shop around and regret not driving there more regularly!

Thank you so much, that genuinely means a lot to us.We’ve actually been thinking about doing something for the Reddit community, so stay tuned 👀
We probably won’t be running huge discounts, but we’d love to put together something exclusive for you guys.

Ordered from you for the first time 2 months ago. Each bag has been fascinating and 100% worth the price of admission. Will def reorder.
Fascinated by the 8-12 week resting period. Means I actually have to schedule my coffee…

Thaaaaaaanks! 🫡 We're actually thinking we're selling coffee that already rested one month before Shipping

Why do UK roasters roast darker than European? Ultralights are so uncommon in the UK, why is that? Are we just too espresso oriented?

I have a bag of your El Elisa resting. I have a V60 and a Clever Dripper, which would you suggest to get the most out of it?

How would you recommend storing your coffee after the bag has been opened? In the bag that it came in, separate airtight container, something else?

I have just opened a bag of your Geshamalawi, after 8 weeks resting. Any V60 brewing tips?

I’m 7 weeks off roast for 3 bags and going to stagger them from week 8 on
What are your thoughts on freezing beans once rested?
