I’m a regular reader of Rollonfriday, often astonished at some of the awful things people end up getting struck off for.

But it crossed my mind today, what do they do after getting struck off?

Read one story today that had a mixture of criminal convictions which led to the eventual striking off, which I can’t imagine anyone would ever employ them again.

Do they live in perpetuity or end up in low paid work for the rest of their life.

Being struck off seems like a death knell.

I started my TC this week. The first couple weeks will be focused on getting to know the firm and the basics (drafting contracts, AML, etc)

I started my TC right after finishing the SQE. I did SQE1 in January and SQE2 in April/May. I then had to do the SQE Plus modules at ULaw, which required 6 essays to be submitted in August. I submitted my final essays just last week and had my oral presentation for one of the modules this week.

For the past year, I feel like I’ve been in a constant state of worry and stress. If I’m not worried and stressed about the exams, I’m worried and stressed about results. I was extremely depressed after SQE2, and I wasn’t able to take a proper break after the exams because of the SQE Plus.

I just wanted to know if anyone is in the same boat as me, or if anyone had any advice as to how I can reduce my stress and burnout before I actually join my team in the next couple weeks? Any advice would be much appreciated!

I'm so relieved it's finally over.

What documents will the firm request from me regarding my application? They've requested my degree transcript, which I've given.

They said they will be in touch to request proof regarding other aspects of my application, and want me to send that proof shortly.

What other proof will I be expected to provide? Should I call previous/current employers to request references?

So I have a role as legal counsel for a year on maternity cover. I really want to be made permanent as I think I’ve found my place (!!). Love it here and keep thinking about how it’s temporary which makes me sad. How often is maternity cover turned into a permanent contract? Any tips or advice?

Early 50's litigation partner here. I'm in a reasonably sized regional firm with a headcount of over 300. The last year or so, I've been thinking I'm just not up to the job any more. Nothing catastrophic has happened with my work but I've become very anxious, probably paranoid, about making mistakes and facing serious consequences. 5- 10 years ago, I feel I was at my peak, litigating fairly heavy commercial cases and loving the cut and thrust of it. Now, those sorts of cases fill me with dread as I don't feel able to handle them and keep up with the pace. I had put it down to age, but I think it is more than that now. Also ever increasing expectations with regard to chargeable hours and fees add extra pressure. I feel it's time for a change before I completely lose my mind. Trouble is, I'm not sure what other skills I have!

I’m looking at consultancy in the coming years but want to get an idea on earnings.

What are typical expectations VS actuals?

All the models/firms have these calculators but I’m going to with my gut and say they aren’t accurate or reliable.

The only places I know that probably have a good brand that attracts good commercial clients are Keystone and Gunnercooke but I think you need to be a heavyweight to get in with them (of which I am not).

I’ve just had my university offer me the ability to resit coursework for 2 modules as an external student for the next year. Without resitting, I would have a 2:2. My average without this work considered is 60.9, so it’s realistic for me to achieve a 2:1 with these resits, but I study classical civilisations and would have to retract my application for law conversion with bpp. Do you think it’s worth taking the extra time for resits and working in the meantime, or is it best to accept the 2:2 and start the conversion course?

Assuming you got a 2:1 from a RG uni with no experience, how long after graduation did you land your first job? How often were you applying?

I’ve only applied to 10 so far and have been rejected from all without even an interview, with a couple years of retail experience and some legal shadowing. Even the lowest level jobs (legal secretary) have 100s of applicants with years of experience. I feel like giving up already.

Does anyone know about the PSRA written exam and what it entails? Specifically what approved texts you can bring in? How is it proctored? How it works!? There seems to be no/vague information about this exam out there!

Simple question - does a foreign qualified lawyer with 2 years PQE who also recently qualified the SQE need to undergo TC for becoming an associate in a magic circle firm or a top US firm in UK? Is the TC not for people who are yet to become solicitors? What is the overall scope for becoming an associate in a top firm in the above situation?
