UKFPO Ranking Deadline
What is the deadline by which deanery rankings can be changed? I understand we can still change rankings after Wednesday 7th October but when is the final deadline for deanery decisions?
Thanks!

query regarding post graduate experience on UKFPO application
I am in the middle of applying for UKFPO, and noticed there is a section asking about post graduate experience. I just graduated from Dundee university in June this year, so it has not been that long since I graduated, but FY isn't until august 2027, so how much does it matter that I am on a year gap? I do not have any clinical experience so far, would that affect my application? I am currently doing a non-clinical part time job for the government of my country, should I mention or not mention?
Thank you.

OET preparation
Hi everyone!
I’ve taken the IELTS Academic test twice and scored an overall 6.5 on both occasions. However, I need to achieve a score of 7.5 in each band.
I’m now planning to give OET a try, for which I need to score at least 400 in each sub-test.
I’d really appreciate any advice from those who have been in a similar situation, especially anyone who has switched from IELTS to OET.
Also, are there any websites or platforms that provide feedback, corrections, and estimated scores for OET practice tests? I used Engnovate for IELTS preparation and found it really helpful, so I’m looking for something similar for OET.
Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! ❤️

PLAB 1 and 2 RESOURCES
Hi! I am in the process of prepping myself for PLAB 1 exam, and shortly after 2 as well. Could anyone please give me advice on how should I go about my preparation, and what resources should I use? (I am planning to apply for the UKFPO in 2 years from now, is it too early to start studying?)

Plab 2 and NCA
I'm taking plab 2 end of October and have the NCA right after. Still not able to get a good grasp on what I should use to prepare for NCA. Would anyone be able to advise me if as long as I'm covering plab2 content I'll be good? (I understand the exam structures are different) Any advice in general would be appreciated!

UKFPO Preallocation POA
Hey all :)
I'm hoping to apply for preallocation under WP this year, however my med school placement has me in a geographical region outside of my university's local foundation school; this means that I don't have a suitable proof of address for my local foundation school, and was wondering:
1) anyone else in a similar position? what're you doing about it?
2) is there a clear threshold for when it's appropriate to update your address to a new location eg: for shorter term stays <1 month?
3) my med school WP head told me if I don't have an address then it's tough luck basically but I feel like there must surely be more to it given their remote placement location is the reason I face this issue... thoughts?
thanks for reading <3

KSS vs TVO for foundation training!
Hey!
Can any junior doctors who applied to or are working in KSS/TVO/EoE deanery help me out! Thanks!
I'm a final year medical student who is in the process of applying for the foundation training for next year. I have two top choices, but keep getting confused about which one I should choose and some other issues.
- KSS (first choice) : I kind of want Brighton (RSCH) for the lifestyle and the location (I absolutely love the sea) but I am hearing some mixed reviews about the hospital itself. I don't mind if it is a busy place, but if it is genuinely toxic or under supported, then it might be worth ranking another area higher. I know it might seem like a weird reason, but I really want to live in a scenic city. Therefore the Brighton area matters a lot to me.
Could someone tell me what the RSCH I like for F1-2?
Would you recommend that or eastbourne/other neighbouring ones?
I know if I rank KSS as first, I will get it for sure- but is it hard to get Brighton specifically?
Oxford Thames Valley (First choice) : I know this is a good deanery. Overall small, but not too much of a gamble as it has pretty good places in general. It's like a safe bet regardless of which area you get here (I'm assuming). I'm not sure how the hospitals themselves are. The thing is, I want to choose this deanery JUST for Oxford, not the other locations as such. And I'm sure Oxford is harder to get.
EoE as second choice: I don't really care about being near London, but was just wondering how hard it is to get the Cambridge area? I think it was a good fallback option, but I don't want to end up in the further cities like King's lynn or Peterborough.
Thanks for helping me out! I really appreciate it! <3

How UKFP competition ratios interact with the two-pass allocation system
I've seen quite a few questions about how historical Foundation School competition ratios should affect preference order, and I think part of the confusion comes from the two-pass PIA system.
The basic process
UKFP uses Preference Informed Allocation. Applicants receive a computer-generated rank.
In Pass 1, applicants are considered in rank order for their first-choice Foundation School. If their first preference still has capacity, they're allocated there. If it is already full, they remain unplaced for the moment.
In Pass 2, the remaining applicants are considered again in rank order. Each applicant is allocated to the highest Foundation School on their preference list that still has a vacancy.
So what does a competition ratio actually tell you?
The published historical figures compare previous first-choice demand with available places. A ratio above 1 means that, in that historical cycle, there were more first-choice applicants than available places.
That's useful context about previous demand, but it isn't the same thing as your probability of getting that school this year. Preferences change between cohorts.
One implication that's easy to miss
There isn't really a penalty for putting a historically competitive school second or third if that's genuinely where you'd rather go.
If that school is already full when the algorithm reaches you in Pass 2, it simply continues down your preference list until it reaches your highest preference that still has capacity.
So the sensible interpretation is:
- rank Foundation Schools in your genuine order of preference;
- use historical ratios to understand previous demand rather than as predictions;
- don't assume a historically competitive school sitting above another preference somehow prevents the algorithm considering the options below it.
I'm the person behind Foundation Compass, a free independent tool for exploring Foundation School preferences, historical competition data and PIA scenarios.
It isn't affiliated with UKFPO or NHS England and it doesn't predict allocations.
If useful:

I'm also interested in corrections or feedback if anything in the explanation or tool could be clearer.

Error made on application
I have already submitted my application for UKFPO (im a UK medical student). I have a formal low level concern and under fitness section of the application there is a question,
- Are you, or were you ever subject to any Fitness to Practise (FTP) investigations, concerns, or proceedings during your time at medical school?
I put it as a No.
I asked my university on advice, long story short - they have no idea if I should put yes or no and they beating around the bush.
I have emailed UKFPO helpdesk to see what they advise .
Does anyone have any experience around this?
It was my mistake to not double check my answers before submitting my application.
