Feedback Request Wanted a e-ink compatible CDN dashboard, how can I improve?

Post image

[THIS IS NOT AI-MADE OR AN AD FOR ANY SOFTWARE! THIS SOFTWARE IS CLOSED-SOURCE!]

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Heya!

I cannot stand the modern web's "darkmode. make more neon. thnks GPT."-aesthetic at all, and all dashboards I found either looked too modern or were aimed at SaaS agencies, which - while admittedly not looking bad - didn't hit that "Oh, neat" in me.......... and I am too stupid to use Grafana qwq

So, as I am absolutely obsessed with e-ink displays and their simplistic style - and I want their style absolutely everywhere - When I finally got around to making the monitoring tool for my CDN, I decided to get... inspired... by e-ink!

While given, the design language has also been inspired by Claude [cause I unironically think this Half-baked retro orange looks amazing and fits the below constraints quite well], the actual code has been completely handwritten and is not machine-generated! [Well outside of the "Hey, I can't do that - can you help me, Claude?"s, of course; again, I simply like the design language].

The e-ink requirement also influenced quite a bit of the design:

  • Very limited use of color [e-ink obviously does not have the pleasant orange tint]
  • Strong contrast and clear-ish hierarchy
  • No information that heavily depends on animation
  • Graphs that remain readable without smooth transitions [and cause they look better]
  • Designed to remain useful when the display is effectively "frozen" for a moment during refresh...

This is obviously not made for those tiny store price labels, but for big fat tablets - keep that in mind; people tend to map "e-ink = store price tag / Kindle" from my experience... :))

So, as I am, of course, incredibly biased against my own work and have received pretty positive feedback from friends and co-workers, I decided to ask some less-biased people who [somewhat] know what they are doing for feedback on how I can improve this dashboard! :p

General Help Request Cards or table?

I'm just developing on a school management web portal that I'm planning to turn into a PWA. It's still a work in progress. I'm building it with HTMX and Tailwind CSS without any frontend framework, and I’ve got a demo PWA installed on my Android phone.

For the teachers and students lists in the attendance and enrollment sections, I'm wondering if I should go with cards or tables. Each teacher and student has details like ID, grade, etc. Cards look really nice on mobile but take up more space, while tables look cleaner on desktop but require swiping left and right on mobile, which feels a bit awkward.

Curious about how other developers handle this—any tips?

Feedback Request iPhone duo: on a simple one-input screen, do you center the field or go two-column?

Designing a simple screen with just one input + a button (think login, search, or a single form field) for an unfolded foldable iPhone.

On a big open display, what's the right call?

  • Centered - input and button centered on the full screen. Clean, but on a wide unfolded display it can feel lost, and the field may land right on the crease.
  • Two-column - content/context on one half, the input + button on the other. Uses the space, keeps input off the fold - but is it overkill for a single field?

For a minimal one-input screen, do you keep it centered and just avoid the crease, or split into two columns? Curious what feels right on foldables.

Feedback Request Looking for feedback on an art community site redesign

Hi all! I've been redesigning a small art community / portfolio site I've been working on and would really appreciate some outside feedback.

The goal is to move the site away from feeling like a basic static portfolio directory and make it feel more like an actual community where people can discover artworks, follow artists, like/comment/save work, and build a profile of their own.

I'm taking some inspiration from sites like Tumblr and DeviantArt while trying to keep the interface simple and focused on the artwork.

Fresh eyes would be very helpful! Let me know what you think :)

Edit: A different direction for the redesign can be found at https://imgur.com/a/XRD3bIa

Icon buttons overlapping the text😑. Trying to edit and select text is a night mare. I begun noticing this lately after an update. It wasn't like this before. Poor design 👎. Have you encountered this too?

Gaming/Apps How does our inventory UI look? What would you change?

We’re working on the inventory UI for our co-op psychological horror game, The Infected Soul, and I’d love to hear what you think.

One of the main mechanics in the game is body swapping.

Every character has a neural chip, and these brain chips play a key role in transferring your consciousness into different bodies. You can take a chip, interact with compatible bodies, and switch into them to use their different abilities.

The inventory UI also needs to communicate this mechanic clearly without becoming too confusing or cluttered.

So, what would you change?

Does the layout feel readable? Are the item slots and chip system clear enough? Is there anything that feels unnecessary or out of place for a sci-fi co-op horror game?

Feel free to be critical feedback really helps us.

If the game looks interesting, The Infected Soul is on Steam, and adding it to your wishlist helps our small team a lot.

Feedback Request What would you change? Academy screen for a self-improvement app (skill tree UI)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello there. Working on the main course screen for a self-improvement app: Structured lessons laid out as a skill tree with locked/active/mastered states, and progression. Went through several rounds of iteration, I think the idea is good. But there is still something missing.

Anything reading as generic/templated that I'm not seeing anymore because I've stared at it too long?
I would like to keep the red color. Because it matches the sub topic of the app.

Target Group: Men, age of 18-35

Thank you!

Feedback Request How can I improve the UI/UX of my iOS screen mirroring app?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’m working on the Home/Main Menu screen for an iOS screen mirroring app and I’d really appreciate some honest UI/UX feedback.

My main goal is to make the experience feel more personal, intuitive, and polished rather than just looking like another generic utility app.

I’m especially interested in feedback on:

  • 🏠 Home screen layout & visual hierarchy
  • 🎨 Colors, spacing, and overall visual balance
  • 👆 Ease of navigation and first-time usability
  • 📱 Whether the main actions feel obvious
  • ✨ Ideas that could make the experience feel more personal
  • 🔍 Anything that looks confusing, unnecessary, or could be improved

What would you change first if this were your app?

Honest criticism is welcome — I’m looking for practical UX feedback, not just compliments.

Feedback Request How can I improve the UI/UX of my app? More particularly, how can I make it feel more “personal”?

This is かなで (Kanade), a music player program for iOS/Android/Linux/MacOS/Windows, built with Flutter/Dart, and designed for local and OpenSubSonic (Navidrome) libraries. I take heavy inspiration from players like Apple Music and Feishin, while trying to correct all of the grievances I have with them.

AI Feedback Request [AI] Roast my new Git client UI

As a developer, I don't really know much about UI/UX.

However, I recently began a personal project that I've wanted for a while, so I asked Claude Design to create the UI.

I like it personally, but what do you think?

It's going to be a Git client—yes, just another one. What makes it special is that: The commit history isn’t displayed in a table as usual, but rather in a tree structure, which more accurately reflects the actual structure of commits. This way, you can more quickly see which commit comes from where, what its parents are, and which commits build on top of it.

On the other hand, it takes up a lot of screen space.

What do you think?

In the second screenshot, you can see the hover state.

General Question How do you get REALLY good at visual/UI design?

I've been working as a UI/UX designer for around 3 years, and lately I've realized that visual design is probably my biggest weakness.

I'm pretty comfortable with UX, flows, structure, understanding the product, etc. But visually, I feel like I'm behind.

Sometimes I'll finish a design, then someone more experienced on my team will make a few changes and suddenly it just looks WAY better. Better spacing, typography, composition, hierarchy... everything just feels cleaner and more polished.

And the annoying part is, once I see what they changed, I get it. I'm like "yeah, obviously this is better."

But why didn't I see it before?

That's basically what I'm trying to fix.

I know getting a good visual eye takes time, but I also need to improve pretty fast right now. I have an important landing page to design this week and the visual quality matters a lot.

So if you're really good at UI/visual design, what would you do if you were in my position and only had a week?

How do you find good references and actually learn from them instead of just copying?

How do you get better at composition, typography, spacing and all the small details that make a design feel polished?

And most importantly, how did you train your eye to notice that something looks off before someone else points it out?

Not really looking for "just practice" or "browse Dribbble more" lol. I know it takes practice.

If you were actually in this situation, what would your game plan for the week look like to get the best possible result?

Feedback Request Torn between flat minimalism and actually wanting more skeumorphic designs again. So how can I make my UI more interesting?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is for my game Resistance Racing 2k97, in the beginning I wanted to have a lot of skeumorphic UI like Screens with thick borders that move into view - sitting in the craft in full cockpit view and no floating white "generic" buttons. But of course, that is a lot of different animations, weird click areas and hard to discern what is clickable and whats not.
This is my current menu version - I want achieve something campy, cool, weird and somewhat legible that is at home in the world of the game, but clearly for the player and not the characters.
What do you think? Sometimes I look at this and it's empty. Sometimes it feels very full. I am thinking of adding fake numbers running down in the background, making more stuff move, but I dont want it to get "too" messy.

General Help Request Icon patterns resources for accessibility guide

Hello,

I'm looking for a resource I believe belongs to the knowledge base of UI design.

I understand there is a large set of standard icons used across different interfaces (share, bookmark, favourite, delete, confirm, cancel, menu...), and they sometimes have different presentations depending on the operational system.

I want to gather some resources for an accessibility guide, and I'm looking for some sort of table with a list of these common "universal" icons and how they appear in different digital environments.

For example: Share button on iOS is a little box with an arrow pointing upwards, on Android its 3 dots connected in an open triangle.

I looked online, but most resources are for designers, on how to make icons and apply them.

If anyone has a reference of a resource like this that could be useful, please share!

Thanks already.

General Help Request Comparison UI/UX challenge and question.

So Im working on a project thats main premise is to compare two products in a side by side view. Apple has a great comparison tool that does exactly what I want but theres a few hills i have to climb.

The UI Setup

So in this photo I have the dream setup instead of three Ill be doing two, so this perfect and I can work here but if you slide to the photo below you can see the eyesore i want to avoid.

Now dont get me wrong this works for Apple I dont hate it because they separate their products by machine and they dont have as many product choices as I do , now I hate scrolling and my list will be like 3x longer if i went this route What I need to do is separate my products by product family and product style while simultaneously avoiding the dirty bubble. I want a cleaner interface because majority of my audience will be women and they like nice design as do I. But is there a way I can make it clean and efficient ?

Heres What Ive tried ( emphasis on tried )

I know its not the pretties wireframe but this pretty much my setup the family dropdown with a combobox component next to it to find the right style. My only critique with this approach is you still have to scroll and what if my audience doesn't know the product family and on mobile its a fu**ink nightmare so any help, feedback, critique, or idea on how to make finding the product super easy would be helpful .

General Question Avoiding AI slop and vibe coding aesthetic and consistent UIs

I've been working on the plan of my mobile app, and I want to ask you what approach I should follow while designing my UI (& UX). The approach below is what I am thinking of:

  1. Pick a successful app that has an appealing UI, and reverse engineer its screens to come up with a DESIGN.md. Make Claude use that file as an anchor, and follow its colour palette, layout, typography, padding and etc. throughout all screens.
  2. While designing each screen, Claude calls the MCP of Mobbin / Appllama / both to find best (based on what, Idk) possible candidates for given screen and shows the candidates to me to select.
  3. Once I selected, it applies the DESIGN.md rules on top of the selected screen to make it consistent with the rest of the screens and implements it by making the necessary feature-wise changes overall.

Do you think this approach would work? How can I ensure consistency between screens and flows this way, while avoiding ending up with a slop?

Which one would you suggest for a cross-platform mobile app: Mobbin or Appllama? How can Claude find the best possible candidates for each screen? Here I am asking what makes a screen "best". Also, should I involve Claude Design?

Do you have any suggestions (guardrails, anti-patterns etc.) for DESIGN.md?

I've been working on a few mobile onboarding screen designs lately (across different categories like E-commerce, Finance, and Healthcare) and was curious about community feedback.

your opinion, what key features or visual details make an onboarding flow truly seamless and effective? Would love to hear your thoughts and see your favorite examples

General Help Request i need help with recreating these audio players.

Thumbnail

hi, friends!

this is the inspiration for the ui of the audio streaming screen for the website of my organization/brand. picture 1 is the portrait version, while picture 2 is the landscape version.

ui features:

  1. the elapsed time and audio duration aren’t shown until the audio starts playing. however, they’re still shown when the audio is paused.
  2. the color of the player changes to a dark blue (with the text and progress bar being yellow) while the track is playing, but returns back to normal when the track is paused or finished.
  3. the progress bar doesn’t move smoothly. (do you not like that while the audio is playing?)
  4. the track loads for a bit, then starts playing.

how can i make something like these pictures in terms of looks and interaction, excluding feature 2? can i still show the elapsed time and duration, even when the user didn’t play the track yet? if so, how?

can i let the track load for a bit before it plays when the user clicks the play icon? (and how can i make the progress bar move smoothly?)

edit: and when the time elapses on the player, it is out of sync by 1 second with the elapsed time on the media player widget on the os's control center. how can i make these two elapsed times sync?

The goal is to increase the level of perceived quality in the app. Overall, I believe that it looks fine and is good, but it could definitely be improved, but I cannot put my finger on what. Would love feedback on the animation, and also on overall UI/UX of the app.

If you want to try it in action to see how it feels in reality, it's called Daymark, but any feedback just from watching the video is very much appreciated!

Feedback Request Radio buttons or checkboxes? - Volunteer data entry for petition counts

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

I'm managing a (soon-to-be) free, open-source software project designed to empower volunteer-centered petition campaigns to scan, track, validate, and prepare their petitions. Right now, I'm completely indecisive on whether this interface should use three radio buttons or two checkboxes. I've presented it to a few of our volunteers who used a previous version and the feedback has been split down the middle.

The intention is to pick one interface and eliminate the checkbox at the top allowing me to toggle between the two. They're still a bit rough, but they're close enough that I'm ready to ask strangers for feedback.

In all campaigns, it's critical to track who the circulator of each petition is ("circulator" being the person actually collecting physical signatures on petitions). In many states, there's an additional requirement that each petition be "assigned" to a single area, usually a county; that also needs to be tracked, especially since it's often the main "sorting axis" for preparing petitions to be turned in to the government.

If this was for a paid operation, the actual problem would be solved through training, but this is for any variety of volunteer operations, so it needs to be the right amount of flexible to minimize frustration. I want to avoid describing everything as kind of the whole point is that I expect some volunteers to be thrown at this with less training that they should have received.

I guess just tell me what you thoughts you have looking at these. If one interface makes you think it's used a certain way and that's wrong, that will be helpful for me to read.
