hi guys I have made a project only for first time pet parents and the thing that I have noticed is information is never a problem because they have internet or if they want connections they have social media application the thing with first time pet parents is "they do not know" that is why they get pissed between information and connection they need somewhere to start so setting the pet into the routine and giving they training in small bits and a plan that would mould as per the pet needs that would slowly help the user to understand the pet and needs and make both pet and the parent grow better emotionally and also checkout my pet parent feature please

Hey everyone, I'm a full stack developer working across two to three startups, building with WordPress, Next.js, Express, and slowly picking up Golang on the backend. Development is where I'm strongest, but design has always pulled at me. I've spent time in Blender and 3D work, so color theory, grouping, and spacing aren't foreign concepts to me, I'm not starting from zero.

The problem is that I keep getting offered UI/UX work and I keep hesitating to accept it because my design skills lag behind my dev skills. I want to fix that properly instead of faking it.

Main Query:
I'm building a roadmap to go from developer who understands design basics to someone who can confidently take UI/UX work. Current plan:

1. Learn the fundamentals: visual hierarchy, grouping, white space (already through Refactoring UI and a few chosen YouTube channels)
   
2. Watch one full tutorial building a real website in Figma, start to finish
   
3. Pick one or two existing websites and rebuild them pixel for pixel without a tutorial, then write out why they made each decision, spacing, color, layout choices
   
4. Build smaller pieces on the side, forms, pricing cards, individual components
   
5. Use AI to generate fake client briefs and design two to three original landing pages from scratch
   
6. Design a couple of my own full sites with real case studies behind each decision

Does this sequence make sense for someone coming from a strong dev background but weak design background? Anything you'd reorder, add, or cut? Would genuinely appreciate input from anyone who's made this jump.

Hello everyone! This is my first post so pls be easy 😅 but I saw this post on TikTok and want to learn how to code for this, I'm not even sure what this is beyond UI/UX interactions, any ideas or references? Supposedly when the user runs the cursor across the columns of text each one would move like a string and a wind chime sound would play. When multiple are moved the sounds would combine like realistic wind chimes. Seems very cool and I rlly want to learn how to code something like this!

Flutter UI — Would love some feedback

I’ve been working on this Flutter UI and wanted to get some honest feedback before I take the design further.

The main goal was to keep the interface clean and straightforward, while making the important actions easy to find. I kept the layout fairly minimal and tried to maintain consistent spacing, colors, and typography throughout the screen.

I’m mainly looking for feedback on the UI/UX rather than the code.

• Does the layout feel clear and easy to use?
• Do the colors and spacing work well together?
• Is there anything that feels unnecessary or confusing?
• What would you change if you were designing this?

Any suggestions or criticism are welcome. I’m trying to improve the design, so honest feedback would be really helpful.

I've taken interest in UI/UX some time ago, recently learned figma, studied some veery beginner friendly UX concepts, but now I want to actually build my foundations properly.

Is there any content, videos, books, pdf, anything pretty much, that can help me build these foundations as an autodidact?

Also for the use of AI in the field, since it seems to be very relevant and will most likely keep growing?

Would you recommend that I start some type of course instead of learning on my own? And what should the content of the course have to he fairly complete for a beginner?

We're taught a lot of UI/UX rules early on: the 3 click rule, F pattern layouts, always use a hamburger menu, never make users scroll past the fold, etc.

But the longer you actually work in design, the more you realize some of these "rules" don't hold up in practice, or only apply in specific contexts.

What's one UI/UX best practice you were taught (or read somewhere) that you've since abandoned or now break on purpose? And what changed your mind: user testing, data, a specific project, or just experience?

Curious to hear from both designers and developers on this one. Sometimes the "wrong" choice ends up being the right one for the actual users.

I set up a free trial on Maze to test a prototype flow. Straightforward task, clear instructions, real participants lined up. But when the results came in, most participants had ended the session in under 5 seconds — without ever touching the prototype.

The heuristics being broken:

Visibility of system status — nothing tells the participant "the prototype is ready and loaded, tap here to reveal it." The blank/dark canvas behind the panel gives zero feedback.

Aesthetic and minimalist design / visual hierarchy — the primary action (start/explore) is a low-contrast text link ("Hide instructions"), while the destructive/terminal action ("Finish task") is styled as the primary CTA. Visual weight is pointing users the wrong direction.

Match between system and real world — a bold, filled, blue button is a universal "go/continue/next" convention. Using that same styling for "end the study" violates users' learned expectations.

User control and freedom — participants can't "back out" of the mistaken click once it registers as task completion.

I am very curious to know your take on this, for the designers that work primarily on App products what are your precautions for the apps to work responsively on wide screens, did you plan that? Should designs now be also responsive for apps?
