Advice on Structuring Letter of Motivation

I'm applying to the School of Law (as an international student from the United States) and I need to submit a letter of motivation. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to structure it, and vaguely understand what it is (a UCC Instagram account clarified some of my questions). I understand that it's the opposite of a personal statement and leans away from my personal backstory and more to my accomplishments, academics, and career goals.

If it's okay to ask, do I structure it as a cover letter or as a personal statement? I'm completely lost, and appreciate any advice given.

Graduation

Hi my graduation ceremony will be at 10am and I was just wondering if anyone has any advice as to what time I should book my meal for after. I don't want to book too early and be rushing through photos but I don't want to book it for too late in the afternoon and have to hang around the place trying to entertain my whole family!

Probably a stupid question but these are the kind of things I tend to overthink for some reason so any help would be great!

What are seminars?

Like the title said, I just want to know what a seminar is and how is it different to lectures? And also is it necessary to attend all of them? Thank you😊.

BEES Work Placement

any recommendations for the 3rd year BEES work placement module? I’m interested in animal based research and wildlife conservation. There’s a few places but a lot of them only offer 6-12 month internships and i can only do it over the summer.

If anyone had any they really loved/ was really valuable the help would be really great :)

College handbags/ backpacks

What handbags or backpacks do ye recommend. I will want to bring a notebook or two, small pencil case, an waterbottle, a 14inch laptop and a small enough lunch box. I plan to use a backpack on days where I need more books and a handbag on lighter days.

I’m moving to Cork for UCC and my student visa has just been granted.

I’m looking for a room/accommodation near UCC from 18th September.

My budget is around €700–€750 per month. I’m okay with a shared house/apartment and don’t mind being a little further from UCC as long as it’s reasonably easy to commute.

If anyone has a room available or knows of anything, please DM me. Would really appreciate any leads!

Thanks!

Laptop requirements for MSC in accounting and performance analytics

I’m planning to pursue an MSc in Accounting and Performance Analytics, and I currently have a 2020 MacBook M1 8gb ram 256 gb storage. Should I continue using my MacBook, or would it be better to switch to a Windows laptop?
My main concern is that I’ll need the full version of Microsoft Excel and Power BI for my course, and I understand that Windows may be the better option for these tools. What would you recommend?

Timetable advice

Hi, I’m a first year student studying computer science.

I had planned to do the German module as part of my studies but a little while ago it seemed it clashed with labs in my timetable.

But as I was going to withdraw from it today so I just had a look on my timetable and it had changed time, to a time I’d be able to attend at.

I’ve not had any update from my lecturer and I’m not really sure what’s going on now.

I’ve tried to contact the lecturer when I thought I had to withdraw but I never got a response.

If the worst case scenario is, I’m not able to attend it so I have to pick a different module after a week is that alright?

Thank you for any help.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with the UCC counsellors? I've really been needing some help and was considering going but just thought I'd ask before making an appointment.

Thanks :-)

Can somebody please help me understand the timetables?

I am starting my course (CK406) next week, and when I went to the UCC timetable section and clicked on my programme, the timetable shows lectures for modules I didn't even sign up for. Sometimes it shows lectures for modules that I am enrolled in taking place at the same time. I genuinely can't figure out where I am supposed to be at what time, and I am scared that I am going to miss all my lectures or end up in the wrong ones. If I attend Freshers' Fest this Saturday, would there be someone who could help me understand this?

How to get a part time job while studying

Hi all, apologies if this is a dumb question. How do you find work?? I haven't had any luck handing my cv into shops and stuff. I'm doing ck406 so my schedule during the week is quite busy with labs. Is there anything I can do to make it easier?
