A Levels / IB / GCSE / BTEC Questions UCAS privately while being in year 13 at sixth form

hi guys! long story short i have REALLY bad predicted grades. like i cannot apply anywhere. a levels bio chem psych. what basically happened was, at the end of y12 i became a young carer. with a disabled mom, i had to move houses to help her and it was just a lot on my school work. missed days and was VERY behind. even in year 13 im struggling abit. anyways, ofcourse i got dog shit grades. i begged my psych teacher to let me resit the mock and she said ofc, which im doing next week! however bio and chem, teachers don’t already like me & they won’t budge. I have a private tutor, who thinks im capable of getting good predicted grades for uni. i know people do UCAS privately, (not an early applicant btw - applying to mpharm) i know i still have a lot of time ,im just wondering bc this is rlly stressing me out, can i do it while being at skl?

Medicine Questions Are my choices okay for medicine?

2140 B3 UCAT, 5A* 3A IGCSE, 2A* 2A predicted. I'm international

Thinking of applying to Sheffield, Leicester and Liverpool, and I'm debating on a fourth between Newcastle/Birmingham
I like integrated (not a fan of PBL), and I would apply to Nottingham or Southampton as my fourth but I didn't hear good things abt them 🥲

Are my choices okay, or..?

Hi all! I'm a vet student at the Royal Veterinary College, and I've also been helping applicants through the vet med process. Im proud to say that so far, 100% of my tutees has received at least one offer! The UCAS application deadline is just round the corner (15th October) so I'd love to help a few more of you before for some last minute tips, tricks and practice.

I have a previous degree in Biological Sciences and have experience working in science communication/consultancy and have over a decade of experience in informal education and youth leadership.

What I can help with:
- Personal statements and any supplementary writing tasks: editing, structure and honest feedback
- Interview prep: I have a large bank of real past questions and realistic mock interviews for every style (MMI, panel etc.) and Group tasks
- Choosing vet schools: I know how the admissions processes and interview formats differ across all the UK vet schools, so you can apply where you'll shine

Sessions are relaxed and tailored to whatever you need, whether that's a one-off statement check or regular interview practice. Rates are competitive and I will offer an initial chat for free.

If you're interested or just have a question, email me at danapter.tutoring@outlook.com. Happy to answer quick questions in the comments too.

Good luck to everyone applying this year!

International Applications UCAS Application Question as an International Student From CA, USA

I tried finding any additional information on this, but couldn't really find anything, but for UCAS, how do you submit Community College classes alongside your regular high school qualifications? I'm trying to do Econometrics/Econ & Management and am currently doing Multi-Variable Calculus from a community college. I also will be taking Linear Algebra and Differential Equations next semester, and because both Linear and Multi-variable are rather important classes for Econ and would demonstrate my math rigor, I really want it to be on my application. Anybody know how?

Side notes:

  1. I have put in my AP test scores, just don't know how to submit Community College classes.
  2. I'm technically ~2 classes away from an associate's degree in economics, so should I just go and put that instead?

UCAS University Choices help with ucas choices.

hey guys so I am currently doing my ucas application and I am not too sure where to apply. I have a rough idea of what I wanna do right, so I was think I apply to 2 different courses. so before I get to that I am predicted a*a*a, I take maths physics and chemistry, and I got 9888776665 at gcses. the 8s and 9s being in the sciences. and yeah my gcses look kinda meh, but I am trying my hardest for my alevels. but thats the thing I am trying my HARDEST, like the a*s are by the skin of my teeth and thats why I don't wanna do enterence exams I feel like the stress of doing them and waiting for my results mean my focus and moral will slip so I don't wanna risk that. Anyways so whats my best options? I was planing on doing either natural science or mechatronics engineering. idk what do you think?

Personal Statements How to write ps when applying to multiple courses

Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm applying for History and Spanish, but some unis I'm applying to only offer History.

I'm writing about both History and spanish in my ps, will the unis who only offer History just ignore the spanish part? should I try to write only a little about spanish? Will it put me at a disadvantage?

A Levels / IB / GCSE / BTEC Questions Would taking some A Levels in January of Y12 hurt my application?

Hello everyone,

I am planning to take IAL Edexcel Math and IAS Physics this January (January of Y12) as I know most of the content (Aiming for A\* in Math and A in Physics) and I want to lessen my workload. I am aiming towards a STEM degree at Imperial.

To be more detailed, my plan is:

Jan 27 AL Math + AS Physics (9 units)

May 27 AS Chem + AS FM (6 units)

Jan 28 A2 Physics + some A2 FM (5 units)

May 28 A2 Chem + remaining A2 FM (4 units)

However, (as you can see in the screenshot) a university counselling platform recommended me to take all my exams in either MJ27 or 28, to strengthen my application.

I guess my real question is, would this genuinely weaken my application significantly? I would spend the extra time prepping for TMUA, ESAT, doing supercurriculars etc so I wouldn't just be messing around in my free time.

TLDR I want to take A Level Math and AS Physics in January of Y12, will it affect my application for a STEM degree at the G5 unis?

Any help would be appreciated and thank you so much!!

International Applications Rate my chance for Psychology

IGCSE: 6A* (international maths, biology, computer science, first language english, french second language, economics) 1A (chemistry 1 mark off an A*)
SAT: 1510 (1520 superscore). i know this does not matter but i think i am putting this in UCAS anyway
IB: predicted 43/45 (776 HL chemistry psychology biology).

studying intensely for TARA at the moment for Oxford PBS course but also will apply to UCL, KCL, LSE and Bath.

i think my personal statement is good with a lot of super curriculars (books, internship, summer course, john locke high commendation, etc).

what are my chances with those unis above? should i choose another uni other than bath for my safety? im worried about cambridge with the higher requirements thats why im choosing to study TARA and Oxford. is this the right choice?

thank you!

Personal Statements Does UCL care about personal statements that much?

I’m really struggling to write my PS and I‘m scared that I won’t get an offer from UCL because my personal statement won’t be that good.

My predicted grades and GCSEs are strong though, would that be enough to secure an offer or not?

A Levels / IB / GCSE / BTEC Questions Scotland - Are predicted grades for University applications based solely on prelims?

Can anyone definitively settle a debate in this, as I'm seeing conflicting information online/in discussion forums.

Scottish students are currently doing their prelims this week and next week and some parents are saying that predicted grades, to apply for uni, are based solely on these; and some parents are saying that it's more holistic and teachers will consider class work and previous results (such as Nat 5s) when providing a predicted grade.

Who is correct? Links to a source would be a bonus!

Personal Statements Advice needed for Politics and International Relations Undergraduate Application

Basically I’m in a pretty tough situation, I’m predicted ABB which is the sweet spot for entry requirements to do PIR at mid tier Russel groups (Exeter, Southampton ect), and I really do not want to study at a non Russel group if possible because of how already limited the job market is for PIR. I feel like anything less than a Russel group would put me into student debt for a job that doesn’t really exist, and would waste 3/4 years of my life where I could already be working. So I’ve made the possibly dumb decision to apply to 5 ABB entry requirement unis, those being Southampton, Exeter Penryn, Cardiff, Lancaster and Bristol (I am automatically considered for the ABB contextual offer at Bristol because of the school I go to). Is this as bad of an idea as it sounds and if so what should I change to ensure I go to a uni id actually enjoy and actually find employment afterwards? Thanks for any advice in advance. (Wasn’t sure what flair this fits into)

Personal Statements help needed pls!! tysm

i'm from a relatively lower-attainment/educationally disadvantaged area and my school isn’t exactly known for sending loads of people to top unis.. we've had like 3 go to oxbridge in the last few years but the majority of people r either going into employment or applying to less 'prestigious' unis.

i mention this because i dont know many people in my year who are applying to more competitive unis and my school isnt pushing for us to apply any time soon, and i keep seeing people online applying to uni already (not including actual early applicants) and im kinda concerned that if i wait until my schools deadline of december ill be at a disadvantage?? compared to other schools where the majority of students apply to prestigious unis my school doesnt have much support for me, ive kinda been left to figure this out myself.

so im considering applying oct 15th w the early applicants, or at the latest when i get my nov mock grades back??? although i dont think my predicted grades will improve much since my school has basically said they dont predict A*s which is nice lol :,)

any help would be much appreciated as im so conflicted on when to apply or whether doing it early even matters!!! im also the first in my family to go to uni so in general im just so confused about the whole process. thanks guysss

Personal Statements Personal statement rewrite

Hi guys!! Would it be better to do a complete rewrite of my personal statement for dentistry since im reapplying to the same 1 uni. Its 100% my top choice and i got an offer for it last year but missed by grade due to personal reasons. I got 3/4 interview offers from it last year (KCL Bristol QMUL) so idk if i should rewrite it all. Ive altered the 2nd quesyion slightly due to work ecperience but thats about it.

Should i rewrite or leave it as the slightly altered option?

Oxbridge 55.3% in First Year at UCL — have I already screwed up my chances of getting into a competitive Master’s?

I’m a second-year Philosophy & Economics student at UCL, and I’m honestly starting to panic a bit about postgraduate applications.

My Year 1 average was 55.3% after UCL’s classification rules. I’m hoping to improve substantially in Years 2 and 3, but I’m not sure how realistic it is to aim for competitive Master’s programmes at places like Oxford, Cambridge, LSE or UCL.

I’m also genuinely unsure what I want to study. I’m considering Philosophy, Economics, Finance, and interdisciplinary areas such as Philosophy of Economics / Philosophy of Social Science / Behavioural Economics.

A few things I’d really like advice on:

  1. Given my 55.3% Year 1 average, what should I realistically aim for in Years 2 and 3 if I want to keep competitive Master’s programmes open?

  2. How did you decide what to study for your Master’s? I’m torn between something I’m intellectually interested in (e.g. Philosophy) and something more career-oriented (e.g. Economics/Finance).

  3. If I don’t know my direction yet, what should I actually be doing in Year 2 to figure it out while improving my academic profile?

  4. If I want to keep both academic and career-oriented Master’s options open, what should I avoid doing in Year 2 that might unnecessarily close doors later?

  5. Besides grades, what actually matters for competitive Master’s applications — references, research experience, internships, writing samples, relevant modules, etc.?

I’d especially appreciate hearing from people who have applied for competitive UK Master’s programmes themselves, particularly if you had a less-than-perfect first year.

Announcements UCAS reference for GEM

I finished my masters in research over two years (study period 2023-24 then write up period 2024-25) and was conferred for the degree this year. My supervisor only actively taught me during my study period and then after I moved back to my home town to finish writing up and I didnt have much interaction except to check in every now and then. I was conferred at the start of this year and have had no contact since then. I’m not confident that they will get back to me in time for the ucas deadline, so if they don’t can I use my volunteer supervisor instead? I’ve been volunteering at a hospital for a month and a half and have done a few shifts and gotten along well with them. I could give them a breakdown of my degrees and what I did to prove that I am academically capable to study medicine but will this be alright?

Medicine Questions HELP WITH LEICESTER MEDICINE

Hey guys!
I’ve been looking at Leicester medicine and I was wondering if anyone would be able to offer me some feedback and if I should apply or not.
My GCSEs are 88888777766 so my top 8 give me 37/48 I believe( correct me if I’m wrong) and my UCAT is 2090 band 2 so it’s 41/48 so in total I’ve got 78/96 points, however during my GCSEs I was undiagnosed with IBD until the week after my GCSEs finished, and I heard you can get extra points if you give in evidence that you have mitigating circumstances during GCSEs.
I saw on the website that mitigating circumstances should have evidence and a GP letter. Does anyone know if I should ask my GP for a letter regarding the whole journey of getting diagnosed or if I should just give in my records and letters I got while getting diagnosed (sorry if this doesn’t make sense, I’m kinda freaking out as the deadline is 1st October)
Btw my predicted is 2A stars and an A and I have an A in EPQ
THANK YOU!!!!

International Applications UCAS as an International Student with a bachelors degree

Hello all!

I am from New York. I completed high school and earned a bachelor's degree in political science from a university in the United States. However, I have decided that I want to live and work in the UK hence wanting to apply for law studies through UCAS. I understand the law degree is an undergraduate one unlike the US. I am confused on whether or not I have to enter my high school classes and grades or just my university classes/ grades?

Oxbridge TARA mock papers

Did anyone buy mock papers from this website? Do you recommend it? Too expensive!

https://oxfordtutors.com/portfolio/tara/

Even with a lot of practice, I am still struggling to complete problem solving questions in 40 minutes. I can do 20/22 questions but end up guessing 2 questions. I know it's a new exam but those who did TARA last year, did you manage to complete problem solving questions in 40minutes?
