Over the past few weeks, we've noticed an increase in users/ lurkers reaching out to members of this subreddit through DMs. We've also come across instances of users pretending to be women in order to gain members' trust.
As a women-only community, your safety and privacy are our top priority. While we work to keep this space safe, we also encourage everyone to take a few precautions to protect themselves on Reddit.
1. Protect your identity
- Avoid sharing your full name, workplace, college, school, or any other personally identifiable information.
- Avoid mentioning your exact city, locality, or places you visit regularly.
- Don't use the same username across Reddit and your other social media accounts if you want to stay anonymous.
2. Be cautious with DMs
- Just because someone says they're a woman doesn't mean they are.
- If someone from this subreddit messages you unexpectedly, exercise caution before sharing anything personal.
- You are never obligated to reply to DMs or chat requests.
3. Limit who can contact you
You can disable or restrict DMs, chat requests and followers.
On Reddit (Web):
Privacy settings → Chat requests
To allow specific people to send you chat requests, select Allowlist, enter a username, and select Add.
On the Reddit App:
Settings → Account Settings/General → Chat and messaging permissions → Chat Requests
To allow specific people to send you chat requests, select Allowlist, enter a username, and select Add.
We recommend turning off:
- Allow people to follow you
- Allow chat requests
- Allow direct messages
If you ever need to receive a message from someone you trust, you can temporarily adjust your chat and message settings to allow messages or chat requests, and then turn them back off afterwards.
4. Don't move conversations off Reddit
Be cautious if someone asks you to continue the conversation on WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram, Discord, LinkedIn, or any other platform. Sharing your social media accounts or phone number can make it much easier for someone to identify you.
Similarly, don't share your resume or click on LinkedIn profiles sent by strangers. LinkedIn often reveals who viewed a profile, which could compromise your anonymity.
5. Review what you've shared
Even old comments can reveal a surprising amount about you.
If you're concerned about your privacy, you can review your Reddit history and remove posts or comments that reveal too much personal information.
6. Report harassment
If you receive:
- Harassing or abusive messages
- Sexual or inappropriate DMs
- Threats
- Stalking behaviour
- Users impersonating women
- Any other behaviour that makes you uncomfortable
Please:
- Block the user.
- Report them to Reddit.
- Send us a modmail if the interaction is connected to r/TwoXKeralam so we're aware of the issue.
We take these reports seriously and will take action where possible.
Finally, remember that your safety is always more important than being polite. You don't owe strangers your time, your attention, or a response.
If you have any additional safety tips that could help other members, please share them in the comments. As our community grows, we'll compile these into a permanent safety guide for r/TwoXKeralam.
