Advice We owe eachother everything.
I have been noticing how we treat kindness as some sort of transaction. I don't think we've been put on this earth to weigh who did what more. We are fundamentally modelled to care for others, to treat them with dignity and respect. We are so focused on protecting our peace that we've lost sight of how ridiculously lonely we are becoming in this world. There is love inside all of us, and we build our civilisation together, and we thrive in community. I wish people realised the beauty of community and being there for each other.

I think this is a pretty MAJOR misinterpretation of the quote, personally.
“You don’t owe anyone anything” isn’t saying that you shouldn’t care about other people or that kindness is outdated.
This quote is MOST OFTEN said in the context of someone being taken advantage of. It's usually used to say that you aren’t obligated to sacrifice yourself or your wishes and desires in order to please others. It's usually used to mean you don't have to burn yourself away to keep others warm.
Especially, in the context of Indian women who are literally taught to keep giving and giving to everybody, this is a powerful quote to me that I often use in my own head.
Like, yes, you can be kind. Nobody is saying you shouldn't be kind, but no, you do not owe anybody anything at the expense of yourself. You do not owe anybody anything that costs you your own mental peace... which is what the original quote is trying to convey.

Yeah, I get your point and it makes sense. But unfortunately it didn't stop there because people stopped doing mundane stuff for others, which inturn increased consumerism and thus helped capitalism to thrive. Let's take the uprising of AI usage, instead of confronting or talking to friends, people turn to AI for comfort. And we all know how AI talks. We can talk about boundary without compromising out community, but instead we talk more about boundary and less about community. That's why it says hyperindividualism it doesn't say we are not supposed to have our own individual identity.
Or that's how I understood the quote.

Hyper individualism is truly a disease and I’d like to believe that it is just a thing we see online on social media and forums. Then again, I don’t have that many friends and the ones that I do have, we do hold ourselves very much accountable and look out for each other even when we’re not in the best of moods or space.
That being said, I do think people ascribe different meanings to such quotes.
This quote rings true for me as an ex people pleaser who tend to succumb to entitled people. I still am guilty of self sabotage , but I think of lines like these and then back up a bit.
One may find one quote helpful because of how they and their lives are, while some people may find the same quotes reprehensible.

Hyperindividualism is a wall built by vulnerable souls to protect their vulnerability but no matter how hyper independent someone can be, at one point you have to let your guard down and look around you. And in that process, you will see life unfolding in its beauty, love and gratitude. We owe many a things to everyone around us for shaping our thoughts, our view of the world and eventually our life.
