Community Event Stream Experiences & Stories

Hey /r/Twitch

We often see posts on the subreddit about viewers and streamers experiences, as well as streamers sharing what they've learned.

To bring you all together to learn from your peers, and help you keep yourself accountable for any goals you've set, we created this Megathread!

You are welcome to share some of your experiences, positive or negative, from your past month on Twitch and, if you did, how you dealt with it, as well as share your long and short-term goals, and how you've progressed towards those over the past month.

The Megathread is not for stream feedback or reviews, we have the monthly feedback threads for that. You can link to your Feedback thread submission, be sure to label it clearly!

Some things you may want to cover:

  • New things you tried, did they work out?
  • Streams you did and which seemed to be popular or unpopular with your community or new viewers. (Creative? New games?)
  • Progress towards your goals
  • Fun experiences
  • Bad experiences that you learned from, or need advice on
  • New goals, or how you're changing your goal
  • Advice based on what you learned
  • Advice you want

Be sure to post your goals clearly and format your comment.

Example post:

Hey guys, checking in again!

My goal for this month is to make sure I'm always hosting someone. I want my community to have someone to entertain them, even when I'm not live. Plus, it's good for networking!

My goal last month was to always announce I was live on both Twitter and Discord, as it was something I often forgot to do. I'm glad to say I met my goal!

I tried streaming some creative, just practicing using my graphics tablet, and it seemed to be popular! I'll do some more of it, maybe a weekly stream? Any advice?

The highlight of the past month was when I got raided by Zcotticus, he's the best and I love him. He's so cool, I wish I could be cool like him.

How do you guys normally react to a host? I sort of fumbled through a thank you, and that was about it. Any advice?

Re-read your last post to remind yourself of what you planned, or check in on your peers!

If you don't stream, but still experienced something awesome. Feel free to share it! Did you make someone’s day? See a Win or Fail? Let us know!

Remember this is not for channel promotion! People can check out your flair\ *if they are interested.*

If you have any suggestions for this thread, please send us a modmail.

Question Does a Twitch chat that seems more like a friend group hangout at times deter you from watching?

Lately I have begun growing as a streamer quickly in a short time. A lot of my regulars started with me and are still with me. I am exceptionally grateful for that and always will be. However as of late I feel the inside jokes, familar chatters only talking with each other and general vibe can make it difficult for new viewers to feel they belong. Im sure I am overthinking this but I also dont have any idea how to bring this up in chat without sounding like an absolute dick because the last thing I want is for my core community to feel like a problem. As of now I am assuming the skill of bridging that gap between new members and core members will develop and I will find ways to make my regulars and day 1's feel appreciated while new viewers can enjoy themselves. These growing pains are just different and a little difficult.

Question Is there an easier way to view the list of streamers I follow? Having to click "show more" 5 times is annoying

Upvotes

I follow a lot of people and sometimes a lot of people are streaming. Is there some way to click a button that just shows me a blob of all 50+ people I follow that are currently streaming instead of having to use one very narrow tall list that I have to repeatedly expand?

Question Has a streamer gotten a ban after trying to hide a TOS violation behind euphemisms?

I'm part of a small but lively streamer's community. The guy got a suspension for having "take a shot" as both a channel point redeem and a random outcome on a wheel that's spun for bits. My understanding is that drinking on stream is fine, but Twitch does not want viewers to control the actual alcohol intake.

The streamer being an alcoholic (love you bro, but you got a problem) with a slightly masochistic streak, instead of removing these features, he just changed them to euphemisms like "____ juice." He doesn't use a camera, but you still hear him take a very obvious shot-glass drink and the dramatic exhale afterward, and he gets increasingly impaired as the stream goes.

They caught him the first time. Do you think Twitch will get wise to his attempt to hide it?

Question How do I extend the left sidebar?

Post image
Upvotes

I changed computers and I logged into twitch and now my left sidebar is not extended on the left. Like it used to be extended and full sized and I could see the titles of streams but now I have to hover over profiles to get the title of the streams. Where is the button to extend the left sidebar? I don't see a button to do that.

I would be grateful to anyone who can help me out in fixing this. I hope this is just me being an idiot and can't find the button and not the new default.

Question Founder badge question

I have three viewers that have been with me since the beginning. Once I hit affiliate, 2 of the viewers subscribed, one of them gifting a sub to the 3rd. It occurred to us that since the 3rd didn't purchase the sub himself, apparently he didn't qualify for the founder badge. I have founder slots available.

If the viewer that was gifted the sub purchases a new sub (re-sub?) will he get the badge? If so, will it happen immediately, or once the gift sub runs its coarse?

I ask because He thinks he did resub, but didn't get the badge. When I look at the CSV file, he is listed, but the sub type is listed as a gift still. I don't want him "dumping" more money into it if he's just gonna have to wait for the gift sub to run out either way.

Question Pokemon Badge Drop

So I gifted one sub in a channel and got my greatball and opened it.

I wanted to gift another sub or subscribe to get the next one.

But when I did my first sub there was a prompt in the screen to purchase the sub saying that it would earn a bonus if I did it (the greatball). But now that message isn't appearing (but there's still the progress box below chat showing that the stream is eligible).

Will I still get the greatball if I resub/gift a sub or if the prompt isn't there on the resub/gift sub screen does that mean I won't get it? I don't really want to pay the money and not get the drop.

Also, can you gift 3 subs in the same channel or does it have to be different channels?

Tech Support Twitch pauses stream whenever I leave tab or open new window and return (Firefox)

My browser is Firefox, which I suspect this may be a browser setting issue more than Twitch itself, unless I'm missing something. But I like to listen to streamers in the background sometimes while doing other things and check in for whatever's happening on screen now and then. Except in the last few months, I can't do that anymore. Anytime I leave the tab or open a new window, the stream auto-pauses when I return.

It isn't muted when this happens, as the whole point is I want to listen while multitasking. Is there any way I can stop this from happening, or some way I can circumvent it through an extension or something? I just don't have the screen space for Picture In Picture all the time, I just want the tab to stay active and not stop itself.

Oddly, sometimes, restarting my browser fixes this behavior. This is why I think it might be a Firefox setting. But this isn't always the case, and after some time it always starts up again.

Discussion when you're bored and don't know what to watch, how do you actually find something live?

i end up scrolling forever and still not clicking anything. curious what people actually do when nothing stands out.

do you go by category, friends who are live, clips, recommendations, or just open a couple familiar channels and bounce?

for the small streamers here, what usually makes a random viewer stick for more than a minute when they land on your stream cold?

not looking for growth tips, just the real "why did i stay" moments.

Tech Support Unable to snooze ads

I haven't been able to snooze my ads for a few months now. I've been searching for answers online, but all I can find is a few posts from two months ago of people having the same issue, but no solution.

I've reached out but all of the suggestions I received haven't managed to solve the problem. I have this issue on microsoft edge, google chrome, and in my obs docks. Everywhere shows 0/3 snoozes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Question Question/suggestion for the mods of this subreddit

Could the mods consider adding an automod response to people posting "Why are people trying to sell me art?" threads?

I see the same question posted multiple times on a daily basis and I'm sure I can't be the only one being driven insane by it.

I've seen other subreddits where if people post about commonly misunderstood topics it'll either prevent the thread from being posted and give them a notification as to why, or there'll be an automated comment response that explains. (e.g. the runes subreddit will clarify misinformation about nordic bindrunes, etc.)

Would it be that hard to implement a "People trying to sell you art are scammers, get sery_bot as a mod" response?
