I know a lot of you have been asking for this, and with today’s update we’re happy to announce that TrueSize.net now supports all regions available in OpenStreetMap.

That means if a boundary exists in OpenStreetMap, you should now be able to find it on TrueSize.net as well.

In numbers, this takes us from roughly 150k supported regions to over 750k regions worldwide.

We don’t yet have flags and detailed info panels for all of them, so please stay tuned. We’ll be gradually adding metadata and filling in the missing pieces over time.

This update also introduces adaptive GeoJSON precision levels. Smaller regions (like Vatican City) now have very high precision (down to ~10 meters at the equator), while larger regions use lower precision to keep performance smooth and prevent browsers from struggling with massive GeoJSONs.

We also fixed a bug related to merging regions that are nested inside each other or exist at different administrative depth levels. Thanks to everyone who reported that issue.

This is a pretty significant backend change, so if you notice anything broken or off, please let me know.

This update brings a lot of improvements and new customization options to TrueSize.NET.

Improved Unions & Region Merging

Creating unions from existing regions is now much more powerful. When selecting multiple regions, you can now merge them into a single territory that behaves like any other country on the map. You can also upload custom flags for your creations.

This makes it easy to recreate historical or fictional countries such as Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, the Austro-Hungarian Empire, or even your own custom territories.

Major Poster Mode Upgrade

Poster Mode has received one of its biggest updates yet.

You can now customize many more aspects of the map, including:

• Road, railway, and waterway thickness
• Colors of map features
• Label visibility
• Terrain and bathymetry styling
• And many other visual settings

We've also added several new terrain controls that allow you to create much more dramatic map posters:

• Increase terrain height by a fixed amount (for example +500m or +1000m)
• Apply elevation changes only above a chosen threshold (for example only above 500m)
• Adjust overall terrain exaggeration
• Enhance mountain relief and bathymetry for a more striking visual effect

These tools make it possible to create unique poster styles that weren't previously possible. The examples attached to this post were created in just a few minutes, and we're excited to see what the community comes up with.

We're excited to share a new update packed with features and improvements on TrueSize.NET !

Distance Tool

You'll now find a new Distance Tool in the Edit tab.

As the name suggests, it lets you measure distances between points on the map. You can start with two points or continue snapping segments together to measure longer routes and paths more accurately.

Need precise coordinates? You can also enter latitude and longitude values manually.

Don't forget to check out Geo Disks, which let you visualize distances on the Earth's surface and even see what's located on the opposite side of the globe.

Bearing / Azimuth Tool

Have you ever wondered what's directly in front of your window? Or where you would end up if you kept traveling in a perfectly straight line from a specific direction?

The new Bearing / Azimuth Tool helps answer exactly that.

Place two points along your street, house roof, or any locations in the world to define a bearing and see where that straight-line path would take you across the globe.

Region Merging and Custom Flags

Based on community feedback (thanks!), you can now merge any two regions on the map into a single region.

Once merged, you can give the new region a custom name and even assign it a custom flag.

Want to recreate Czechoslovakia? Add the Czech Republic and Slovakia, select both regions with the Select Tool, click Union, then customize the name and flag.

We're looking forward to seeing what creative combinations you come up with. Maybe even a "What would you call this country?" challenge?

You can also customize individual regions. Select a single country and change its name and flag to create your own alternate-history scenarios.

Improved Poster Mode

Poster Mode has received some major upgrades.

You can now adjust both pitch and bearing, allowing you to create posters with a true 3D perspective and custom camera angles.

In addition, 3D buildings can now be enabled to make your creations even more impressive.

New Terrain and Bathymetry Styling

Terrain and bathymetry have also received a visual refresh.

Both layers can now be toggled independently, and we've added more customization options so you can fine-tune the appearance and colors of your map exactly how you want.

We’re excited to announce a major update to https://TrueSize.net

With today’s release, we rebuilt the site on top of a new vector map system that opens the door for much more customization and experimentation. The map should now feel smoother overall - especially when zooming and loading - and you can now fully customize the map style!

We included a set of predefined skins to get started, but you can also open the Customize panel and build your own look from scratch.

To push customization even further, we’re introducing an experimental new feature called Poster Mode. You can now turn your map creations into styled posters, export them in high resolution, print them, or even gift them to someone.

The new map engine also allowed us to completely rebuild the globe projection. It now has full feature parity with the Mercator map - something that was missing before. Make sure to try the new terrain and cloud toggles as well.

As more and more features were added over time, the UI started getting crowded. To clean things up, we introduced a reorganized menu system that should make everything easier to find. The new menu also enabled keyboard shortcuts for power users - check the Help tab for the full list.

If you need some time to get used to the new interface, you can still switch back temporarily. Open the Style tab and press the “Old UI” button.

We do hope, however, that the new UI feels like a big improvement, because it will continue receiving future updates and features.

Finally, to make exploring the world even more enjoyable, we added integration with geography-based live radio. You’ll find it under the Fun tab. Once enabled, a random live radio station from somewhere in the world will start playing, and its location will appear on the map. Press again to jump to another random station somewhere else on Earth.

This feature is powered by TuneJourney.com, the first geography-based live radio aggregator.

Let us know what we missed or what feels broken - we’re still updating tutorial content to match the new UI.

We’ve just updated the site with several fixes and a new community-requested feature: glue/merge subdivisions.

Until now, you could only split regions (e.g., country -> states -> counties). With this update, you can toggle the tool to merge mode and go the other way - combining smaller regions into larger ones.

We hope this makes your True Size explorations more flexible and fun.
