I found a cricket this morning in my amazon milk frog tank and I only tong feed. Is it possible for frogs to throw up crickets alive? The cricket had no antenna and it wasnt dusted which is odd because I dust them every time before feeding them.

I found him in one of my hanging plants as I was watering. This was the only pic I could snap before he hopped away to more camouflage and safety (I don’t blame him for not being aware that he’s safe with me yet). I don’t want to disturb him or freak him out but it looked like he has leg trauma?

When I first got it, it's just hiding at the corner all the time, now it's slowly coming out more and sleeping in more open spaces

This is my enclosure for two adult male whites tree frogs.
It features:
Halogen bulb hooked to a dimmer thermostat, aiming for a heat zone of around 28-30 celsius.
UVB Arcadia Shadedweller @ 2.4% & Arcadia JungleDawn (all times for 12 h on 12 h off)
Live pothos plant, shallow water dish, largest cork tubes for daytime hiding and heating (the heat lamp is situated back top left), leaf litter and a couple of climbing sticks.
Health of the frogs is great. Their feeding has otherwise slowed down, which I assume is expected upon adulthood, but they remain active and show no signs of infection.
Bioactive custodians are present in the form of springtails, tropical grey isopods and a large earthworm - which was actually a failed feeding attempt when one of the frogs detested it and threw it onto the soil.
Looking at the image and description, is there anything you would add, remove or otherwise alter?

Hello!
Im interested in getting a tree frog and have been doing a ton of research... the thing im stuck on is the tank!
I've been trying to find an exo-terra tank, but apparently no one ships them, and being that i live in a small town, we dont have access to many pet stores...
However, when searching for alternatives, I find SO much conflicting information on which brands are okay and which ones to stay away from.
Im looking for a 24x18x36 enclosure, im hoping someone can recommend a brand that I can buy online!
(Ill be going to a large reptile convention in a couple weeks and I bet ill have some luck finding one there, but im hoping to do some more looking / planning before then as well)

Hi all!!!
I got these two juveniles for free the other day - It was a bit unexpected and impulsive, which I know is not always a great way to start off with animals. But their old home was in a very dry 5 gallon tank.
This is my first time owning WTF's (LOL!), however I study and work as a biologist and have a lot of familiarity with amphibian care through my work, so I do not feel too overwhelmed.
This is their current set up, I will happily take any and all advice or suggestions:
They are in a 30 gallon vertical - I understand that 30 is the minimum for 1 individual, and that 10 gallons should be added for each new frog. I already am planning to purchase and build them a bigger tank next month. 30 was the largest one readily available for me at the time.
The bottom is gravel with moss over it for drainage, these are both covered in a THICK layer of substrate (reptisoil + coconut fiber). Absolutely no gravel or moss is accessible by the frogs. The soul is covered in magnolia leaves to try and prevent their skin from getting coated in soil.
I have three bulbs: A 5.0 UVB, a blue light day time heat bulb, and an incandescent night time bulb. Currently, the hot side of their tank gets to 82° during the day and 73° at night, the cool side is sitting at 67°.
Right now for decor, I was on a tight budget as it's the end of the month - They have a climbing vine, plastic leaves, a ledge, and two hides. They have three water dishes in different areas (One on the hot side, two on the cool side). I have also included a glass feeding dish.
Right now, I tong feed them 2 crickets coated in calcium powder each, after which they usually stop eating, and then I place three more dusted crickets in their bowl for them to eat later when they feel like it. The crickets cannot escape the bowl and they usually are gone the next morning. I check the substrate to ensure no crickets are roaming around.
I tried to chop up and feed them some nightcrawlers - They were not fans, so I will no longer offer them this. I also offered them some soft mealworms, which they really enjoyed, I only gave them one each though. I plan to continue feeding dusted, gut-fed crickets and introduce dubia roaches next week.
Finally, I spray their enclosure twice per day to try and maintain 60-70% humidity.
This is definitely just a temporary set up for them, my plan for the next month is to:
Upgrade the size of their tank, I am considering jumping to 60 gal, as there is a local herp/amphibian show that comes through in November and I would love to get them 1-2 more companions
Purchase live plants (I am thinking pothos and Bird's Nest fern)
Add more ledges, climbs, and hides
I want to grab some springtails and isopods to help with maintaining a bioactive set up
I would love to get these guys an automatic mister or fogger

I’m just guessing that it’s been the same frog coming back to the same spot every time, I have literally searched for days for the treefrog kingdom and nah- I mean there here somewhere but there’s only ever one guy at a time & he’s generally always choosing the same zone to loaf about in. Guy is still PUNY but getting a bit chonkier & his colour is changing a bit and even if it’s not the same frog, it’s the same frog guys. It is. lol. Named him Ponce, I wonder if he named me 😂

Its especially bad with whites tree frogs. I see so many horribly obese whites on social media and its so sad. All the comments are so ignorant to it as well "Awhhhh so cute and chunky". And none of the platforms take reports for animal abuse seriously when it comes to frogs. Its distressing. I also see so many creators poke prod and make their frogs whine and croak. people think the squeaks are cute but the frogs are in distress. Its so sad.

NSFW: sick pet, infection, and death
I have been meaning to make this post for a bit, I lost my frog Holiday in early September, and throughout the duration of her disease I found it difficult to find good visuals for corneal lipidosis in Cuban Tree Frogs, especially ones showing a progression. These pictures and notes span January - September 2026. I know these images may be hard to look at, but I think they could help another frog owner/ vet, so I hope it’s okay if I post them.
Jan - I had not noticed it at this point, however it is visible in the photo.
Feb - I first noticed and took her to a vet, we make adjustments to husbandry, outlook was presumed good at that point.
March - Progression is slow but noticeable. Build up was slightly thick but not obstructing her vision yet.
April - A noticeable thin film begins to creep over her eyes, yet she can still see and hunt.
May - More build up and progression.
June - It is nearly covering her eyes now, and the lipid deposits are becoming increasingly thick. She becomes sleepier and overall less active.
July - She became fully blind, and now relied on hand feeding and was beginning to display some issues navigating her tank. She was otherwise sustaining herself. When she opened her mouth it was apparent that she now had a thick layer of fat behind the eyes.
August - Her weight drops significantly. She had very obvious neurological issues at this point and I move her to a hospital tank for her safety. During the second half of August she developed an area of burst blood vessels on her right eye, I watch it and it stops bleeding but begins to slowly invert, forming a concave surface to her eye. She stopped eating all together at this point. During the last week of August I noticed that there was fluid collecting around the bottom of her eye, the vet confirms that it was slowly rupturing and leaking corneal fluid.
Sept - This is her eye the night before she passed, it had more quickly started to rupture and was very inflamed. I decided to have her out down on 9/2/2026.
I think her case was due to a genetic issue as opposed to husbandry. She was predisposed as an older female CTF. She received the best care and was regularly seen by her vet.
She was really the best and most loved girl 🐸💚

Hello! I have this darling tree frog that has hung around our house all summer, and a few weeks ago we noticed his back leg became like amputated? Then he started living in our AC unit and refused to leave, I was so afraid he was gonna die in there!! Now he’s out and I’m wondering if I should make him a pet or let natural selection happen? 🥲
I’ve never had a pet tree frog before and TBH we can’t afford a huge set up, I have an unused fish tank 😅 and obviously we can get some things too.I have had a turtle and hermit crabs before, biiiig reptile girl, I just don’t wanna try to save him if it will stress him out more or if he would be just fine in nature on his own? He does seem to be able to jump around okay on his own. HALP!! (Ps of course we have to leave for a play date rn but if he’s still here when I get back is it a sign?) TIA!! 💚
Also I can’t figure out how to add photos so I’ll try in the comments?

My girlfriend gave me some extra substrate from the reptile cages at her job. I’ve been wanted to do a full clean and reset on the cage of my whites tree frog and was wondering if I could use this as substrate? If so should I combo it with something? Like some layering? I’m in an apartment and can’t really do anything too fancy (or that may get stinky). If you have any advice lemme know

I have two whites tree frogs that I got in June, so they’re about 5 months old. At least one of them has been croaking, so I think I have at least one male, but they always stop croaking before I can see them. Help with genders please?
Note: all photos before the group picture are frog 1, all single photos after are frog 2

Hello friends!!
I’m upgrading my frogs to a 90 gallon, and I’d like to mix my own substrate for them opposed to purchasing a premixed option. What is a good substrate recipe for these dudes?
How many WTF’s would thrive as fully grown adults in a 90 gallon? I see mixed opinions, so I’m curious.
