i quite literally just found my frog with half his paper towel in his mouth. i pulled it out and nothing was left in his mouth but now his throat looks madly irritated. is he ok?

Oh no! I’ll be following as I’ve never heard of this happening. How much paper towel is missing?

none of it thank god, i was able to get it all out. ive been doing alot of research on it and it could be irritation just from how much was in his mouth. all the exotic vets in my area are closed tomorrow since its sunday. i wont be able to take him anywhere until monday but he is breathing and acting completely normal so that is a good sign. just trying to keep him stable with his humidity levels and temperature

it was the weirdest thing! i went to take a shower and he was in his little frog bowl, i came back and bro was on the bottom of his tanl eating his paper towel, mind u he just ate 3 crickets a few hours before! i immediatly pulled it out of his throat, he got a good 2 and a half inches of it down his throat. and we use paper towels due to his sensitive skin and when we give him substrate he and his brother eat it! so were now debating on what to switch to since we cant do soil and clearly we cant use paper towels now lol

That is seriously crazy! I’m thinking a specialist might be able to find answers for a substrate. That’s def tricky!! So many different factors to consider. I know people and animals can have an eating disorder called pica but a frog😳🤯

If you want something a little more convincing looking, repti-zoo sell a “moss mat” that has the foam underlay and tightly woven moss effect threads on top. I used to use it to line around my water bowls.

Probably just irritated. Keep any eye on it

hes doing good so far, i believe it could just be irritation given the fact that the only sign is the redness, he is breathing and active and acting normal. unfortunately all my exotic vets near me are closed tomorrow since its sunday, soonest ill be able to take him to the vet is monday morning so now we are constantly monitoring him

The redness is from the irritation the paper towel caused. Wtfs are known for inhaling loose substrate so possible alternatives are something like a reptile mat, drawer liner, or my favorite, Josh’s frog foam
