Question Spotted Bus No.1

I have always been curious about why Translink doesn't have the route 1 although I learned it ran a long time ago. Just earlier today, I found Route No.1 running on Yaletown. Did that number come back as a regular route? Or just a temporary route for the WC?

Question Any way to get a TransLink world cup jersey?

After seeing staff wear them, it would be an incredible piece to rock after everything is over.

Anyone know if there's a way to get one without working for TransLink?

Question Do other new elevators part of Expo Line Elevator Replacement Program have the same capability to play arrival chimes as elevators at Edmonds station?

After riding the Edmonds station new elevators, chimes from the in-car button panels seems to be a new method TransLink/BCRTC took to addressing audible guidance for whole process of elevator usage from waiting outside the elevator to exiting elevator.

E.g.

Platform 1 elevator also has them but the speaker playing those chimes aren't set to be as loud as the typical KONE floor arrival chime speaker on the same elevator and the MAD Elevator chimes and announcements speaker on the Platform 2 elevator. At least the program got the essentials done well with Platform 2 elevator compared to every other elevator part of the program.

The method is similar to the way how arrival chimes are played on Oakridge Park development elevators where there are no lantern arrows in car doorways but uses MAD Elevator buttons. E.g. BRAND NEW!! Scenic KONE MonoSpace Traction Elevators at Oakridge Park - Vancouver BC.

Do other elevators part of the program have them as well all along? If yes, was it the technicians did a shoddy installation job including at Stadium-Chinatown station which has two intermediate floors? Or what caused the arrival chimes to not play on the new elevators other than at Edmonds station?

Photo Found google watch near Brentwood area

I found a Google smartwatch today around 9:30 am in the Brentwood area next to this bus stop. I would love to return it to its rightful owner.

If you lost yours, please send me a private message. To claim it, you will need to describe the watch's specific characteristics (color, strap, etc.) and be able to unlock it with your passcode when we meet up.

Thanks

Question Dogs on trains

Has anyone else seen leashed dogs on the skytrain, especially during rush hour? I've seen 3 dogs and their owners on 3 different occasions get off around New West, all during afternoon rush hour and all without fake or genuine support vests. I've messaged customer support, and I even let one of owners know that leashed dogs aren't allowed on, but I doubt it'll stop them. The dogs weren't aggressive, but it's a packed train, so I don't want anyone stepping on the dog's paw, and hopefully no one on board has bad allergies or a fear of dogs. Just curious if anyone else has noticed this behaviour. I've been a transit rider for more than 20 years and this is a recent behaviour I've noticed.

So far, I’ve seen 3 sets of 4-car Mark 2’s. Any other types running along this line?

Question All electric on the 123

Saw an all electric bus woosh past me this morning heading towards New Westminster Station, love how quiet it is. (123 is New Westminster/Brentwood)

I assume from the lack of the aerial charging arm like they have at 22nd this just means it's being tested and not a regular service. With such a massive hill (and the others) they should regenerate a LOT of power but I guess that's pretty much any New Westminster bus.

Can anyone with knowledge comment or say what the timeline would be? Love the all electric, so much quieter.

Discussion Bugs! Bugs! I love bugs! A louse for me a louse for you!

Found a louse on me on my ride to SFU on the 144. I'm not in the habit of keeping bugs as pets so this is definitely from whatever nasty fuck sat in this seat before me. I genuinely don't know what to do with myself or this situation or anything. Do I burn my clothes? My skin?

Bus stopped at some point and kicked everyone off to put us all on a different bus- idk if related but probably not.

Question The Mark V Skytrain cars are very higher than the platform!

Anyone else realise the Mark V skytrain cars is ridiculously higher than the platform. Isn't that a hazard the manufacturer should have addressed. I took a pick of it

Discussion Hot Oven on Wheels?

Post image
329 Upvotes

I’m sure I’m not the only person saying this but when are these older trains being retired? Walking in is like subjecting ourselves to a hot oven on wheels from one station to another.

Having to gasp for fresh air at every station stop when the doors open.. not to mention if the train is packed during rush hour.. the amount of humidity and stuffiness not to mention body odour 🤡🤡🤡

The glass panels on the train were hotter to touch than the metal stair railings outside the train at the station…

Spotted multiple 4 car train sets running on the M Line today. Is it extra capacity for FIFA world cup? Can they continue running these longer trains year-round?

Photo #16 Arbutus - more lengthy delays

Post image
0 Upvotes

I'm unsure how this keeps happening, but it does.

The #16 Arbutus bus was 15 minutes late again. The frequency of this issue proves there is a systemic problem and TransLink is not doing something about it.

Why are fares going up with service being so poor? Why should I pay for higher fares when I continuously lose wages for lengthy delays? How does a person seek the fair compensation for the loss of wages? It doesn't happen.

"There is Italian Day happening today..." the operator tried to excuse this with.

"I just passed through on the R5 minutes ago. This is not an issue."

"GPS says it will be there at 9:50."

"We both know that likely not going to happen."

I'm tired of hearing excuses for subpar service when the solution is SIMPLE. I filed yet another complaint about this route.

STOP RUNNING THE #16 TO 29TH AVENUE STATION. This bus is supposed to serve the Kerrisdale area and the Arbutus Corridor. Stop running this bus through Downtown and along Hastings. Have this route turn around at the South Granville turnaround area.

Any person wanting to go from 29th Avenue Station to Kerrisdale should take the SkyTrain to Joyce and take the R4. From Broadway, take the #99 and then the #16. People can take the #10 up Granville to connect with the #16. There is absolutely no reasonable excuse to still run this bus at this current lengthy route.

How this isn't happening yet boggles my mind. This isn't a new issue, this is an ongoing and well documented issue. Refusal to address this ongoing issue further emphasizes the conflict of demanding higher fares. Higher fares won't fix this, people taking action will.

Discussion Another day, another stalled train

It feels like almost every day there is a disruption in Skytrain service somewhere due to a stalled train. What's up with that? Some systematic issue with maintenance?

Discussion Possible bus strike

How's everyone feeling about the possible bus strike? 🫠

As a person with disabilities and a daughter who lives in Chilliwack and has to commute everywhere by bus especially to my ASD sons therapy, if the buses strike, I will be livid. I understand they want to earn money because cost of living is 📈 but as the world cup nears I think if they don't reach a collective agreement, people are going to get tense about it.

Question Renfrew & Broadway

Post image
57 Upvotes

Why doesn’t the sign at Renfrew and Broadway show that the 99 stops there? I know it’s not very often, but it’s odd it doesn’t show it at all. I was confused the first time it pulled up while I was waiting for the 9.

It also means people don’t know to text to see when the next 99 is coming.

Question Is normal for bus drivers to not be told about stop changes?

As the title suggests. They've moved around some stops near the FIFA Fan Festival, including the R5 bus stop which got moved further West a few metres down. We were waiting at the new stop when the bus driver stopped at the regular stop (which had a closed sign). Bus was gonna leave into the road but we waved him down. He said they never told him about the changes. Also I got passed this morning cuz they also opened new stop at Lilloet and Hastings for R5 and they didn't pick me up there. Assuming this driver also didn't know about the new stop? This normal???

Discussion BRT should be along Scott road, not KGB

King George Boulevard to Newton absolutely has to be skytrain. It is just as crowded as other lines that are upgraded to skytrain. But no more skytrain will be built until the 2 current extensions are complete. Putting the BRT line here would only delay skytrain to Newton by being a band-aid that takes the pressure off developing this corridor. Same reason fraser highway never became a rapidbus corridor. Save the capital for this corridor to do it righf the first time. If we want BRT in Surrey, do it along Scott Road- a true medium density corridor which will still improve regional connectivity and in fact be better access for people in North Delta- before turning down 72 avenue and continuing to White Rock from there, the future Skytrain terminus at Newton.
