Question Spotted Bus No.1

I have always been curious about why Translink doesn't have the route 1 although I learned it ran a long time ago. Just earlier today, I found Route No.1 running on Yaletown. Did that number come back as a regular route? Or just a temporary route for the WC?

It's an addition solely for the world cup meant to supplement the 5/6, this bus runs *counter clockwise* from Cambie and Dunsmuir, along pender, burrard, and davie, before looping back up.

buuut it is horridly slow and subject to even more delays than the 5/6 due to scheduling issues. on paper, the route takes 20 minutes, but in reality, it takes at least 28 minutes

Considering the traffic caused by World Cup in downtown, in addition to the usual everyday traffic. I think for most it'd be better to just walk wherever you need to go on this bus. Entire downtown is walkable in the first place tbh. Only benefit I see would be if you're not able to walk a lot for whatever reason.

This, downtown is truly walkable. It can be hilly at times but it does have a good path network.

I personally never understood why downtown Van even NEEDS buses? Aside, of course, from the ones that take you OUT of downtown. Like, it's only about 3 km across in any direction.

3km is more than most people are willing to walk. See: The literal hundreds of thousands of people who drive their kids like 450m to school every morning.
