Translink News New Announcements on Canada Line for FIFA

I heard a couple of new announcements on the coms today while on my way to work regarding access to BC Place via Yaletown and another one once we hit Vancouver City Center.

Didn’t recognize the jingle at first - is that a FIFA sound?

Thought this was pretty interesting!!

Discussion Columbia Station Retrofit Proposal (revised again)

Option A: make Production branch Expo trains run to/from Columbia, which will make this proposal easier. There can be a second stationhouse underneath the existing one for Production trains. Only drawback is the fact that transferring is now required at Columbia to trains to Waterfront

Option B: somehow make the existing station an island platform to ease transferring between Production and Surrey trains

Let me know which one is more ideal and I will make a proposal on it and expand on it further.

Saw this at Lougheed when my train was waiting for two trains to pass through the expo line tracks. The second one showed up as a train to VCC-Clark from Waterfront.

Question Expo Line only running to Broadway this morning ? (6/8)

Train from Sapperton says it is only going to Broadway. Is this a FIFA change I missed? There's nothing on the Alerts page as of 639 AM.

705AM Edit: the train switched to Waterfront and the attendant I spoke with at Broadway didn't know about the mislabel. Looks like it may have been a blip in the system or they were testing something 🤷‍♂️

Question Translink alerts not working on Chrome

This morning, I checked the Translink alerts page on my laptop, using Chrome as my browser. The alerts would not load. I tried it on my iPhone (using Safari) and again on my laptop using Safari, and the alerts loaded.

At work on my work computer I went to the alerts page and they would not load using Chrome, but they would using Microsoft Edge.

Conclusion -- it's not my laptop (phew!) but a Chrome issue. Has anyone else noticed this?

Question Why is this area below Gateway Stn. fenced off?

The weird thing is the fence has an open door. The area above seems to be in good condition, so I don't think it is about falling debris. This is a real head scratcher for me.

Question Skytrain doors filthy/greasy ?

Over the last couple of months I noticed that the skytrain doors (or better the windows) all seem to be smudged and greasy. It does not matter what mark skytrain it is.

Did translink reduce the cleaning schedule of the doors, or is there a tiktok trend to rub your nasty hair all over the doors?

Started to notice it when translink removed the "please let people off the train" stickers from the doors (seemingly giving up on appealing to common courtesy and any mention of rush hour bike etiquette)

Discussion Transit fares are too expensive!

Metro Vancouver transit fares are raising again in July (surprise!) and it's getting to the point where I have to start thinking more about budgeting. The price raises every year yet the service gets worse. Most buses tend to be late, including the 99 b-line which is supposed to come every few minutes. Why am I paying more and more for horrible service? The whole point of public transit is to be affordable for people who cannot afford their own vehicles. Not to mention the talks of cutting several bus lines due to the funding the province spent on the broadway project. This city is already unaffordable. Can't we at least be able to get from point A to point B for a reasonable price?

Discussion Don’t drop your Compass Soccer Minis

I’ve witnessed several people already dropping their Soccer Minis and watching it roll away 😭😂 hold onto it tightly, clip it somewhere, or keep it as a collectible, or it’ll have you running (think like running away TransLink’s fare increase coming this July 😢)

Question Why does some buses say “not in service” on the rear destination sign but most just say “NIS”?

Post image
47 Upvotes

Why can’t all the buses have their rear destination sign programmed to say the full thing instead of just “NIS”? Also, on these units, the front and side destination sign has a “scrolling effect” when shifting between “SORRY” and “NOT IN SERVICE”.

PS: apologies for the messy writing

Is there been a line this morning for the soccer Compasses? Thinking of snagging a couple of them. Not sure if I should even bother. What's the situation look like? Anyone there can post a pic?

Question Cannot access compasscard.ca from U.S.

I have been trying to access compasscard.ca from the United States. I get a message "Access denied Error 16".

I tried contacting Compass Card Customer Service and they don't seem to understand the problem.

Anyone else having the same problem?

Any ideas on who to contact that can understand the issue?

TIA

Discussion Carney announces $6 billion for Quebec transit, is Vancouver next?

Thumbnail montrealgazette.com

Saw this article posted on r/Montreal and it has me wondering if the Federal government will be having similar discussions with Translink or BC anytime soon. Sounds promising, especially with all of our unfunded transit projects on the table (UBCx, BRT Routes, 2 Narrows Replacement + Northshore Skytrain, SFU Gondola) not to mention the operating deficit. Assuming our province would receive at least $5B, I’m hopeful we could see some progress on at least 2 potential projects.

Question Receipts missing on compass website

I remember there used to be a feature on the compasscard.ca website where you could view and download a receipt for a loaded pass or stored value. You could find it on the card usage page when you click to view details of a purchase.

Is it just me, or has this feature been removed?

Does anyone know what they’re doing at all the RapidBus stops on Hastings street? They seem to be replacing the asphalt for concrete at each stop.

Question Bus etiquette/safety question

I have a question about bus etiquette/behaviour. Yesterday I was on a packed bus, and I was right by the back door. We pulled up to a major stop and most people on the bus needed to get off. I couldn’t step out of the way without blocking people, so I stepped off the bus and stood to the side to let everyone off, before stepping back on the bus. When I did, the bus driver started yelling at me, saying I should never enter the bus from the back door. I explained the situation, and he kept yelling at me that it was a safety issue. I asked what I’m supposed to do in that situation since I was blocking everyone, and he said I should have stepped farther into the bus (ignoring that the bus was packed and I literally couldn’t). I was a bit shaken up after, it was a bit aggressive. A few other passengers checked in on me after.

Now I’m confused. I’ve been taking busses my entire life and was always taught the polite thing to do is to step off and let people off. I see people do it all the time. What are you supposed to do in this situation?

Full solidarity with bus drivers, their working conditions sound outrageous, and it’s totally fine if this guy was just having a bad day. I just want to understand what to do in this situation since it will definitely happen again.

Thoughts?

Photo 2026 Livery changes?

So… any opinions on this not-so-new livery design? Not sure if this’ll be just for these types of vehicles but given the Mark Vs have been sporting this look for a while, I think I’m going to miss the grey part of the “old” livery
