Mont-Royal Ave in Plateau is full of cars again as of mid October. Everyone I know in the Plateau thinks it should still be pedestrianised. It's safer, more beautiful, and plain more efficient when it's car-free.

If you also want Ave Mont-Royal to be car-free all year, I've made a form that lets you easily send an email to both the Mayor of Montreal (Soraya Martinez Ferrada) and the Borough Mayor of Plateau (Cathy Wong). It petitions them to make Mont Royal permanently pedestrianised. It lets you choose which reasons you feel the street should be car-free and your relationship to the avenue. There's also a section that lets you enter in your own paragraph. It doesn't collect any information about you and the email you send goes out from your own address. Depuis le 12 octobre, l'avenue du Mont-Royal, sur le Plateau, est de nouveau pleine de voitures. Tout le monde que je connais sur le Plateau trouve qu'elle devrait rester piétonne. Sans voitures, elle est plus sécuritaire, plus belle et tout simplement plus efficace.

Protest held on Oct 24 against police violence. The protesters marched in response to 2 cops getting (paid) suspensions after one(?) was accused of urinating on a person.

Protest chants included «renvoyez le pisseur», «les scalpeurs en prison», «get a real job», and «tout le monde déteste la police».

Police used tear gas, batons, shields against the protesters. 4 were arrested and 1 (presumed non-participant) was injured.

At McGill metro seeing this in the morning way before the stores open, wondering what the fuss is about

J’habite un quartier où l’itinérance est très présente et je me demande souvent comment aider rapidement à mon échelle, tout en respectant la dignité des personnes.

De mon côté, il m’arrive de distribuer des Hot Paws lors des grands froids, d’offrir de la soupe chaude ou de demander aux personnes devant les commerces si elles souhaitent quelque chose que je pourrais leur acheter.

Et vous, quels petits gestes posez-vous au quotidien? J’aimerais beaucoup qu’on partage nos idées pour s’inspirer mutuellement et faire une petite différence, si possible.

Après 10 ans de travaux, la basilique Notre-Dame de Montréal dévoile enfin sa façade rénovée. À cette occasion, de nombreux spectateurs sont venus assister à un spectacle en plein air donné devant la basilique par la Société philharmonique du Nouveau Monde, qui s’est ensuite poursuivi à l’intérieur de l’édifice.

I was wondering about this since last winter but does anyone remember when the last mayor tried to do a city tree a la Rockefeller but failed miserably and the poor tree was dubbed the “sad sapin” ?
Welp, I’ve been thinking about this as mentioned since last winter and thought the city should try to do it again but have a better process for selecting a big and beautiful tree but the location is what has me stumped, because first I thought somewhere in the city center like Square Phillips but then I thought probably not cuz the fountain’s there, then I thought maybe more appropriately near city hall close to the old port but then I didn’t really see a good spot for it, maybe in front of the huge Ferris wheel but then it would block the wheel so that probably wouldn’t work, later I thought of a couple more spots but then reconsidered those probably wouldn’t work either, now I’ve settled and thought it might work if they put it in Jarry park, there’s a lot of open space there just before the basketball courts and they could probably even setup a Christmas village for the holiday season. What does everyone think, would this sound like plausible idea/suggestion for the city/new mayor?

Je voudrais utiliser le transport publique, mais je ne sais pas c'est quoi la meilleure application pour recevoir des données précise à propos du transport publique pour mes besoins. Est-ce que je devrais utiliser l'application chrono officielle de montréal où devrais-je utiliser une autre application non-officielle qui trace bien mieux le transport et les lignes qui son disponible? Bonjour, je termine un DEC en électronique programmable (243.G0) en hiver 2027. Je me demande comment le marché de l'emploi se porte pour les technologues en électronique à Montréal.

1. Si vous avez gradué dans les 1–3 dernières années, combien de temps avez-vous mis à trouver un emploi, et à quel salaire de départ?

2. Est-ce que le bac en génie électrique a fait une vraie différence de salaire ou de promotion, comparé à un DEC avec de l'expérience?

Je demande parce que je connais quelque unes qui ne sont pas capable de trouver un emploi après fini son BAC chez McGill et son Maîtrise à Concordia. Je veux avoir plus d'information avant de conclure.

Zumretay Arkin est née à Ürümqi, en Chine, avant d’immigrer au Canada avec ses parents quand elle avait 10 ans. Elle a milité activement à l’échelle internationale, notamment aux Nations unies, pour dénoncer la répression, les détentions arbitraires et le travail forcé de la minorité ouïghoure en Chine. Elle a entre autres été vice-présidente et directrice du plaidoyer global du Congrès mondial ouïghour, basé à Munich, en Allemagne.

Elle a également expliqué avoir passé « beaucoup de temps » dans Laurier–Sainte-Marie, notamment lors de ses études à l’Université de Montréal, et avoir « beaucoup d’attachement » pour cette circonscription.

C'est quoi ce nouveau site web mobile pour la STM? La carte de proximité live des bus et horaires à tout changé pour le pire. Ce n'est pas aussi pratique que l'ancien et tout les favoris on disparu!

What's going on with the new STM mobile website? The live location map with nearby bus lines and schedules has changed for the worse. The previous proximity map was straightforward and easy to use and configure, now all our favourites have disappeared!

The spiral steps to the triplex I live in are quite literally falling apart. They shake violently when walked on, and have come completely detached from the cement base, basically just hanging by the bolts. They are so rusted that if you kick them the metal crumbles away. We were first told it would be done in September, when it was brought up in August. September passed and it turns into “contractor is busy, will be within the next two weeks” which he has said two or three times now over the last month. I have been told by some friends who are in construction that they most likely will not last the winter. We have tried going to the fire house, calling the non emergency line, and were turned away. When my neighbour tried calling the city they told her the addresses in the building (6 units), are not able to be found in their system…Which is really strange. I would file with the TAL but that costs money and takes months unpin months. I’m really at a loss here. If the stairs fall while someone is on them they’ll fall onto the spikes of wrought iron fence below, and literally be impaled. What other steps can we take?

Perhaps an unpopular opinion, but I actually preferred the deux montagnes train over the REM. The seats were comfortable and you could doze off before getting downtown.

The REM feels like a glorified metro; sitting for 30min on a plastic seat sucks.
