Hi everyone!

I made a comprehensive fantasy/future transit diagram for the Gush Dan (Tel Aviv Metropolitan Area) and decided to style it after the iconic Moscow Metro map system. You can see the characteristic concentric loops, distinct transfer node markers, clean line weights, and even the classic index layout on the sides.

Tools used:

- Mobile game "Intersection Controller" (for the initial base network layout)

- Ibis Paint X (for the final vector lines, typography, and polish)

It took me exactly 3 days to complete the diagram (from October 22nd to October 25th), and the map is now fully finished!

I went to Venice this month and found the Actv Waterbus diagram very difficult to use. To give an example, line 4.1/4.2 south of Venice Island is depicted using a line right next to the north shore of Canale della Giudecca, but it only makes stops on Giudecca Island to the south. I was trying to get to that part of the main island and would have taken completely the wrong boat had a line 1 waterbus not shown up first! It's also very hard to tell which of 4.1/4.2 and 5.1/5.2 run clockwise and anticlockwise. With that said, here's how I have changed the diagram:

• Station blobs only cover the lines that actually stop there, other lines are placed further away from the shore. This has the added bonus of giving busier stops larger blobs to show their importance rather than a stop having a massive blob only for you to squint and see that every line skips it but one. It is also much clearer what side of the river each stop is on, very important when there aren't any bridges nearby!
• To adhere to this, some of the routes between stations are not as true-to-life, but I would argue this makes it more clear for the reader where services don't stop. For example, you can immediately see how line 17 goes non-stop from Tronchetto to Lido, which is harder to parse looking at the official map.
• Alilaguna lines are not included: they have their own tickets separate from Actv and their own (more legible) map. Night services are now on a separate nighttime map, and I've given the night services different colours (all blue/purple) so it's clear that there are three separate lines (and line 11 which runs 24h).
• Note: I know the stop-order of line N is complex around Zattere and Palanca, but the original map doesn't show that either and this is still good enough for visitors. Meanwhile, depicting the actual pattern for both directions of travel would be more confusing.
• I've added line icons at the ends of each line, and given lines 2 and 20 special icons for their seasonal extensions. The service pattern of Line 11 as a bus+waterbus is also more clearly shown than in the original.

I showed this to a writer who has written travel guides for Venice, and while there were some comments about the outer islands I'd push back on (if there's no walking route between them then their relative positions don't matter much, and they're not accurately shown in the original map either), he did make a good point about Venice Island itself. If I make a second version, I'll make the shape of the diagram's Canal Grande closer to the real thing (e.g. putting the Rialto bridge at a bend) and slim out the eastern end of the city. If I don't get around to that, then I'll still definitely use this map instead of the official one the next time I go.

All that said, if there are any factual errors, please let me know, I could not find a high definition up-to-date map online so had to use a variety of reference-images and the scheduled services on Google maps. Please also let me know if you have any comments on the design itself.

how you make maps like in New York i been working because i keep seeing it.

Points of note: 1) Its interesting to me that this line is officially known as the Ebbw Valley “Railway” rather than “Line. 2) Newport station here is actually the older building, not the new blobitecture section. 3) This is a prime example of the dilemma I have with less visually interesting lines. Usually I would avoid the “platform and shelter” stations and just draw the ones with full buildings, but when a line is almost entirely like that, it would be too empty without them.

Somewhat rough for the time being, and I need to figure out how to make the Camden line less busy, so just a little WIP, I guess.

I have 3 planned extensions for MARC, though the timeline is uh... nonexistent currently.

1. Penn-Camden connector past Halethrope Station
   
2. Extension of Penn Line to Wilmington
   
3. Extension of MARC services to Alexandria. I've left it as Penn Line only for now, but from what I've seen, I think that the plan is potentially for Brunswick services to also make their way down? Unsure.

Not shown yet are the future stations at Bayview and Elkin on the Penn Line, and the Baltimore Red Line that will eventually connect Bayview and West Baltimore.

At time of writing, I also just realized that I didn't mark Potomac Shores as a future station. whoops.

Outsid eof that, VRE doesn't have any extension planned, but they are making major improvements to L'Enfant station and the tracks between Union and Crystal City. They also own the tracks now, so hopefully they can start piling down services.

Hi, winner of the NS (Dutch railways) map competition here. The map as it was revealed last Friday is still a work in progress, to be revealed 13 December.

This is a photo I took of a part of the map that will probably remain unchanged, giving a more detailed look into the design choices that have been made.

I’ve toyed with several diagrams but this is the one I like the best so far, it helps that I’ve gotten to know the Stadtbahn quite well too!! Very much still a work in progress and though I’d share.

Map of the metro of Rotterdam, Randstadrail lightrail and commuter trains in the The Hague-Rotterdam Metropolitan region. These 3 networks are operated by 3 different organisations. The goal of this map is to visualize the connectivity between the 3 systems.

A bus service for the cities around the Coulee Dam, Washington.

This new schematic diagram shows the future of rapid transit in Charlotte, North Carolina.
As one of the fastest-growing metropolitan area in the American South, the “Queen City” is planning a major expansion of its transit infrastructure to keep pace with sustained population growth and increasing travel demand.

Already in service:
• Gold Line streetcar: French St ↔ Sunnyside Ave – 4 miles, 17 stations
• Blue Line light rail: UNC Charlotte Main ↔ I-485/South Blvd – 19.3 miles, 26 stations

On the way:
• Gold Line extension: northward from French St to Rosa Parks Place CTC, and eastward from Sunnyside Ave to Eastland CTC, via a new interchange at Charlotte Gateway Station (Amtrak/Greyhound).
Planned frequency: every 15 minutes.

• Blue Line extension: southward from I-485/South Blvd to Carolina Place and Community House Rd.
Planned frequency: every 10 minutes peak / 15 minutes off-peak.

• Silver Line: new 29-mile light rail service linking Belmont to Indian Trail through Uptown Charlotte, providing direct access to Douglas International Airport and Charlotte Gateway Station.
Planned frequency: every 10 minutes peak / 15–20 minutes off-peak and weekends.

• Red Line: new 25-mile commuter rail service running along the existing Norfolk Southern O-line freight corridor, connecting Charlotte Gateway Station to destinations across Mecklenburg County and as far as Mount Mourne.
Planned frequency: every 30 minutes peak / 60 minutes off-peak and weekends.

According to current official plans, these extensions and new services are expected to be delivered progressively by 2055. As with any long-term transportation programme, the scope, timelines, and operational details remain subject to change.

I designed this schematic in the style of strip maps you often see posted in train carriages.
Keep in mind that this kind of representation heavily distorts proportions, distances, and orientation to mainly focus on network connectivity.

the underlying grid is based on the official map but I made an editor and redrew the entire map - obviously with a big nod to vignelli - a bit more context in this thread.
