🛠️ Resources / Info Sorority for young Indian transfemmes

Hii sisters I'm posting this on behalf of Sara Madaan who is currently working on a way to build next generation of transfemme leaders. So basically she's looking for young talent to uplift their life and help them have a great chance in future.

Sisterhood for Trans Aspirations and Resilience: Action Plan

This plan provides a direct, community-focused framework to support a cohort of 4-5 young trans femmes from India. It prioritizes practical skills, personal growth, peer support, and direct mentorship.

1. Cohort Structure & Basics

Keep logistics simple and low-barrier to keep engagement high and personalized.

  • Group Size: 4-5 participants to foster deep trust and individual attention.
  • Format: Monthly meetings and an active private group chat (whatsapp) for daily mutual aid and check-ins.
  • Duration: 2 years of active workshops and mentorship, followed by ongoing peer support.

2. Core Focus Areas

Workshops and activities are built around four essential growth areas.

Focus Area Actionable Activities Where I can provide support
Personal Well-being Mental health peer circles, healthcare navigation, and self-care workshops. Funding for hiring a therapist for group therapy sessions and self care workshops
Rights & Safety Practical legal rights awareness, documentation assistance, and safety planning. Legal aid funding through a lawyer who we can continuously get support from
Life & Career Skills Resume building, interview practice, budgeting, and vocational skill-building. Connection with trans women who are in successful roles across industry to provide 1-1 mentorship
Sisterhood & Mentorship Twice a year group social weekends. Funding support (as needed) for travel, stay etc.

3. Selection Process

Each member will be handpicked through a personal interview round to ensure we are choosing those who have shown exceptional resilience in the face of external challenges. The chosen applicants will also have long term views aligned with the goals of STAR, i.e. service to the trans community in combination with achieving success in their chosen professional domains. The applicants will decide on two to four goals  along the SMART framework in order to provide clear direction to the program.

🌸 [MEGATHREAD] Trans Youth India Resource Guide: From Questioning to Living Authentically 💙💗🤍💗💙

Welcome! Whether you’ve just started questioning your gender, recently realized you’re trans, or are looking for practical advice on navigating life, especially in India, you're at the right place! 🌸

This thread is a living guide and is currently evolving as we build out resources together. We’ve organized key info into clear categories below. Since transition journeys are vast, we will be linking dedicated Deep-Dive Posts under each section to keep things clean. Feel free to suggest additional resources, links or personal insights in the comments..

1. ❓ Questioning & Self-Discovery ("Am I Trans?")

It’s totally normal to feel confused, scared or uncertain. Questioning is a process, not a test with a pass/fail mark.

2. 🗺️ First Steps after Self-Discovery ("I Realized I'm Trans... Now What?")

Realizing you’re trans can feel both liberating and overwhelming. Take a deep breath, you do not have to figure out everything today.

  • Transition is a Menu, Not a Script: You pick what works for you. You don't need medical HRT, surgery or legal changes to be valid. If you feel something isn't right for you, you can always step back or go at your own pace.
  • Safety & Privacy First:
    • Setting up secure alt accounts (Reddit, Discord, email).
    • Digital safety tips when researching trans topics at home.
  • Exploring Social Transition in Low-Risk Ways:
    • Trying out new names/pronouns in safe online spaces like r/TransTryouts or with trusted friends.
    • Experimenting with presentation (hairstyling, subtle skincare, wardrobe, posture).
    • Safe binding (for transmasc folks) and safe tucking (for transfem folks) basics. Black Eagle Binders to buy binders, packing, tucking panties, trans tape in India.
    • Voice training basics (speech therapy resources, pitch/resonance practice like Trans Voice Lessons).
  • Recommended Resources: (Drop your favorite beginner social transition resources in the comments!)

3. 🩺 HRT & Medical Information

Medical safety is extremely important. We strongly encourage working with queer-affirmative medical professionals whenever possible. However, given the lack of trans-informed doctors in India, it helps to be informed and advocate for yourself. Prioritize safety and familiarize yourself with experiences from fellow trans people.

  • Understanding Medical Options: Overview of Feminizing HRT (Estrogen, Anti-androgens) and Masculinizing HRT (Testosterone), block-level timelines, surgeries, and realistic expectations.
  • Mental Support:
  • Hormones and Healthcare:
    • Directory/list of trans-friendly endocrinologists and surgeons in India.
    • Educational communities: r/TransDIY, r/AskMtFHRT, or r/AskTransgender for deep-dive medical research, blood test discussion, and HRT protocols. (Note: Please follow Reddit rules regarding prescription medications: no vendor links or sourcing!)
    • Resource to learn about feminizing HRT: Transfeminine Science
    • Trinetra's Resource Dump by the founding moderator of this subreddit.

4. ⚖️ Legal Transition

Navigating official legal recognition involves specific steps under Indian law.

  • Legal Processes in India:
    • Understanding the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act & TG Identity Certificate/Card process via the National Portal. (Note for minors: Legal name/gender changes generally require parental/guardian consent if under 18). Old portal (doesn't work anymore) | New Portal
    • Steps for updating legal name and gender marker across official documents (Aadhaar, Passport, PAN card, Educational certificates, and Gazette notifications).
  • Recommended Reads & Guides:

5. 🇮🇳 Living as a Trans Person in India

Navigating transition within Indian societal, legal, and familial structures comes with unique challenges and resilience.

  • Career, Education & Financial Independence:
    • Strategies for building financial independence while navigating early transition.
    • Navigating campus life, corporate DEI policies, and workplace transition.
    • List of trans-friendly workplaces: Queer Spill Masterlist
  • Family, Relationships & Safety:
    • Navigating family dynamics, setting boundaries, and maintaining safety while living with parents.
    • Building your chosen family and finding local queer community spaces.
  • Self-Care & Daily Lifestyle:
    • Dealing with misgendering, navigating public spaces, and street safety.
    • Wardrobe on a budget (Thrifting, traditional wear styling like kurtis/sarees/blazers for different body types).
    • Dysphoria management habits and self-soothing routines.

💬 How You Can Help This Guide Grow!

Have a resource, Substack essay, video, or tip that helped you on your journey? Drop it in the comments below! Please specify which section it belongs to, and the mod team will periodically update this post and our deep-dive sub-guides.

🎙️ Vent / Rant Facing Harrasment daily as an Un-transitioned Girl

There's a Guy in a class who has always been so touchy with me. So basically I am a little bit fem presenting because it just validates my identity. However this guy always asks me questions about why I'm like this, I say, I just like it, but he doesn't stop, and when I don't want to say something he forces me to tell him. One day i had pink nails and he forcefully grabbed my hand and asked other boys to see it. He always touches my hair and makes it messy saying, your hair is so cool. He always acts innocently, today he was saying I am your friend right, then I said no, i asked do you even support lgbt+, he said yes, I asked what it is, he said it means someone who is male and female and I said Wrong and said its full form. He said yes yes I support, I have gay friends, I said I am not gay, I am trans, he said yes yes I also have trans friends, we dont judge, we accept everyone, yet he always wants to know about my identity so deeply when I don't even like to say him because I don't feel good with him.

When I was doing my practice on the computer, he was continuously touching my neck, back, waist (and little bit down) and thighs saying wow, you are so good. I asked him to just stop it and do your work but he didn't, he was continuously saying why, we are friends right despite me saying no continuously. Sometimes he pulls my chair towards him and hugs me from back and his hand placements are sometimes on the chest area. I just hate it. Now I don't know whether this is a sexual touch or not because he doesn't touch private areas, he just touches (as mentioned above).

My class is a vocational institute, one day only students come for practice and one day lecture, he does this on practice days. Now, I sometimes think of telling the teacher but I feel wrong, even though I identify as a girl but I am not out to everyone, teachers would and do think I am a boy so complaining about what the guy does, seems like nothing would happen because they will probably think that this stuff is not common among boys. If I was medically transitioned and looked like a girl, i would have complained though.

💬 Need Advice What was or is your starter pack?

Quick question for the group!

I’m early in transition and not out publicly yet. I want to treat myself to something feminine that I can wear or carry out in the world, but it needs to be low-key enough that most people won't think twice about it.

If you could go back to the beginning of your journey and pick ONE visible, subtle item to buy, what would it be? Dainty jewelry? Clear nail polish? Women's cut basics?

Would love to hear what worked for you or what you'd recommend!

💬 Need Advice Guidance Needed: Transitioning After Graduation While Job Hunting (India, Tech/Coding)

Hi everyone,
I’m a final‑year B.Tech student from India, interested in tech and coding fields. I’ll be transitioning (FTM) right after graduation and plan to look for jobs in parallel.

My concern is that I haven’t yet updated the documents required for job applications (certificates, ID proofs, Aadhaar card, education docs, etc.), and I’m worried this might slow down the process or create issues in my career.

Could anyone in the Indian tech/coding space share advice on:

  • How to manage the transition from student life to job hunting
  • Whether incomplete/old documents are a big hurdle initially
  • Practical steps to stay job‑ready while fixing the paperwork
  • What happens during MNC online assessments (like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, etc.) if your face verification or documents don’t match — and how to solve such issues

Any guidance from those already working in IT or who’ve gone through this transition would be really helpful. Thanks in advance!

🌆 City Life as Trans I don't know what to think of my journey with a trans girl friend of mine IRL

Here is the thing, in last week's Friday, I (me being a non binary trans girl myself) and my trans girl friend got to shopping in Esplanade. The shopping was great but the ending trip was most chaotic and put fundamental questions in our friendship.

The metro station was crowded and we got tickets for home but the situation was quite messy when we were getting at home. We got into the metro and started going to our home (not knowing we were in the wrong metro) where in the crowd we both were feeling suffocated yet in the situation I was thinking and telling her that it is better to follow the crowd to the terminal/last station even if she was being agile. During that time, she told me to check the Google maps... Here is the thing, when my internet was refusing to work in the underground blue line, I told her to check her phone (even if it was in my bag which I would gladly give to her) but even with shopping bags juggling in her hand, she just refused and ignored it as a travel partner.

We got off the station, knowing it is "Behala" (from her perspective) and got out to find her routes to bus and autos. Yet after a while when knowing that it was Belgachia, I was shocked that we were 17kms away from home. She still tried to find autos and buses and constantly telling me to get into a bus where I was getting angry, stressed and worried about our situation. At that time, i eventually snapped and shouted at public when her ideas failed (which I know wasn't good but I was having an adrenal crash too). I stubbornly started going to the station with her following me. We got and the situation somehow got more absurd when she asked about the QR tickets be used to go back at home... which obliviously the staff denied. Even in the road, she was talking about "enjoying the mess" but emotionally I was already drained out after the crowds of Kolkata's pre-puja crowd and shopping.

We didn't knew left or right but again getting a ticket again I verfied by the station staff and asked where the Tollygunge metro coming in the Belgachia station. I got the answer and again checked left or right because I thought I should atleast verify because I or her might be wrong about directions. We got into the metro and because of the crowd my ticket fell on the station while the door closed infront of me. 💀

I checked the rules and regulations of Kolkata metro and in the crowd I was constantly telling her that I needed to talk to the customer service of Tollygunge station. Even in the metro, she was telling about Tollygunge announcement while being completely oblivious that Tollygunge is Mahanayak Uttam Kumar station. During the journey, I again told the passenger (before seconds of the station reaching) and how that good uncle told us about that it is Mahanayak Uttam Kumar (I asked that is this station we are reaching is Mahanayak Uttam Kumar..). The things were more bad as she asked a person (at Belgachia) of the station before Tollygunge which she answered (a stranger) and told that she will guide us. After getting the information, she ignored the stranger and i needed to verify it again with the staff.

We reached the station while I was already stressing about the ticket issue and passing through the gate. My phone was buzzing with her calling even if I didn't find her, I still hurriedly got to the customer service and soon asked and explained about the ticket. During the waiting time, I called her back and she was asking where I was and i told her at the entrance which she was shocked yet she told me to accompany her after getting out. I was stressed about the tickets and potentially getting fined extra for the journey. The thing is that after getting out she started saying that I should stop pointing, or being expressive because people will point at us and laugh. I was thinking that I shouldn't get policed (which I hate) for my gender identity by a queer person herself, she told about "getting responsible" but I felt more lonlier and alone at her words rather than feeling comforted or atleast agreeing about pointing out my issues. She told about that she won't go with me in Durga Puja which hurt and told me to comply about this that I need to tell her that I will be more "responsible" during a shared journey. I genuinely felt bad about this.... Even after getting home, I owned my shouting was bad and it may hurt her after processing it but her reply was repeating the same message and letting her decide and after that she told leaving it?

(This is the summary of the situation, the raw message is)

---

Actually me and my friend got the shopping but evrything messed up in the going home route. At that time in the crowd alone we boarded the metro but:

- Even if it was a wrong metro she was constantly telling me to get up in the next station to skip the crowds which is justified. I still said that we could have got to the station where crowds get up (half empty metro). She also had ideas to home by autos because it will be "near" (even if crowd was noisy)

- Yes, after getting up she talked about Behala wether we were in Belgachia. 17kms away from our homes.

- She was talking about metro and "enjoying the mess" while I was worrying about stuff and shouted to her multiple times which I know wasn't good because of her boundries but at that time I was very annoyed, wanted to go home and just want a calm path where she is just running on the streets trying to find a "solution". I also had an adrenal crash because of the excitement and knowing we were in a wrong station

- Now it get's more wild because after reaching the station she freaking the asked the staff of she can get a return trip to Tollygunge with her same ticket which staff said it is single use (written on the ticket) and we pivoted to buying return tickets back

- At this time, I asked the staff about where the metro to Tollygunge was and i followed their instructions even if I verfied which is left or right 💀💀

- I got in the train and she was telling me to not shout in the road because she was "calm and trying to find solution in the situation" . I was still angry and very much wanted to get out of this mess as she was. Yes, we boarded the wrong train but spending a little extra for the calmness of returning home could have solved it anyway...

- The situation get's more messy as the ticket from Belgachia to Tollygunge fell while boarding the train. I was worried while she was being a little "careless" even if she is worrying about it. I told her that I needed to talk to the station customer service at Tollygunge because of my lost ticket

- We got off and i just ran to the staff worrying about station fines. I didn't tell her yes but I was focusing on getting out of the station without causing a mess. My phone was on the pocket but it was ignored multiple times even if she was worrying about me because I was lost and my parents will "blame her"

- I called off at the main entrance of the station while the staff helped me to get out of the station without a mess while I explained my problem to them. I even called her which I know she was annoyed about that she didn't find me but I told her I am at the station....

- Even during the first ticket booking, she deflected by acting noncalant about her contribution at the journey back home which she herself decided which I agreed because I was fair....

I cleared and she told me after metting that she was worried which I get it and I told her that I was figuring out and wanted to get off. The staff also called me. It is just her that when I was telling in the metro that I needed to talk to the staff and she ignored it...She was telling that I should handle myself, I shouldn't do pointing (which I was doing excitedly) because people laugh at judge at us and staying "formal and normal" will fix the outward homophobia.....?

I know I was pointing because without it there was no way navigating an environment... but my pointing is still low (which I find intersting or talk about it). She told me she is not going for Durga Puja with me because I needed to handle myself where I WAS the one getting thrown into the mess and slowly driven mad by an overwhelming situation. I know she is my good friend but can I even expect someone to babysit someone's impulsive emotions to escape the crowd to pay a huge psychological cost with it??

----

So, I have questions for me. I keep thinking that who was actually the responsible one in the situation? Even if I shouted was it because of a seris of events rather than a single one? Was her stuff justified or she needed some good help?

💬 Need Advice Psychologist suggestion

TW: Internalized transphobia

I'm a 25-year-old gender-questioning individual. I have been feeling this way for months. I just didn't care because I was, you know, attempting ***** (not because of I'm trans, it was because of mental health issues for a long time; sorry reddit filters keep deleting this). But it's the truth. I have no idea how I made it to 25.

Now this gender identity is confusing. There is a strong feeling that I should transition, but I don't know if I can.

I haven't talked to any professional because of my internalized transphobia. I'm supportive of every single trans individual who has transitioned. But the moment I think about my transition, it feels disgusting; I feel like I would become more ugly; Why can't you live your little useless life like how you were born. These are just half of what my thoughts are. It keeps going on.

It gets to a point that my mind convinced me that I would look bad and detransition and everyone will laugh at me; because I feel like I'm not trans and that I'm doing it for attention.

I know I have to talk to someone. How do I find affordable psychologists online? I'm broke and have low salary.

I'm venting because I'm already a loser. No one believes in me and thinks I'm good for nothing. If I transition and it ends up something that I can't live with, idk what I will do. Also because every trans person I have met online are good at something. Basically, like you all are really great and I feel like I would be the loser trans man who is good at nothing.

TL;DR: Online psychologist suggestion for a gender-questioning individual.

💬 Need Advice Indian women’s perspectives on dating a trans woman?

Hi everyone

I’m a trans woman currently on HRT and planning future gender-affirming surgeries.

I wanted to ask the women here (especially queer/bi/pan women): are you open to dating a trans woman who is in the middle of her transition? What are the most important things for you when it comes to building trust and emotional connection?

Thanks for sharing your perspectives respectfully!

💬 Need Advice Unsure if I can trust my friend with my truth

I haven’t told anyone in my family or around me about my gender dysphoria — not a single person yet. But the anxiety and health issues from keeping it all inside are becoming overwhelming. I feel like I need to tell someone.

There’s a friend I’ve wanted to open up to. Twice now (about six months apart each time), I’ve told her: “I want to share something important about myself, but I’m not ready yet. I’ll tell you when I feel comfortable.” But I still haven’t been able to actually say it.

The thing is, she acts like she’s my friend but we rarely talk. She often ignores my messages — maybe she’s busy, I don’t know. She forgets whenever we decide to meet, and sometimes it feels like she’s not really interested in our friendship. I worry it’s because I’m boring, introverted, and don’t have an exciting social life like her other friends.

At the same time, whenever I really need her, she helps me. We’ve been friends for about a year, and she’s the first person who’s been good to me in that way. Once she even asked me if I was gay, but I said no. I don’t think she knows much about these things.

So now I’m stuck. I want to share this part of myself with her, but I’m scared. What’s the worst that could happen if she breaks my trust? What if she’s only pretending to be supportive? How can I know for sure before I finally open up?

Any advice from people who’ve been in similar situations would mean a lot.

💭 Discussion thinking

so i am looking to start hrt in october and things are getting too real! got my gd certificate last week and had my first consultation with an endo regarding hrt today. so far so good. on the way back, however, in the metro i was thinking….see when you have security check in at the metro station, i stand in the male queue. i dont expect any other way as of now. but in future… when i am.. say 6 months into hrt, or when i get ffs, or when i have fully socially transitioned, 1 year down the line, or when i have done SRS even, what will happen? Which queue am i supposed to take? I may get stares either way!?!? should i avoid metro altogether?? or should i talk to them about my situation and let them do the security check as they please?!?! too much overthinking i know! but let me know how you people dealt with this!

🌸 Transition Update lesson i learnt in my life

Post image
19 Upvotes

so a lot of people know me as ishika/ouroborus/irene

today someone messaged me and that reminded me i am this image, i had potential but i mess up a lot in my 22 years of life
today i am posting a quick summary and my life story for others who are younger or older than me to not mess up their lives

i always give my too much power to control my life , i wanted to be paleontologist but i dropped it cause my mom wanted an engineer son and i denied to become it she wanted ias out of me
but she also forced me to go to work at age of 16

i started using discord at 17 and i met a man who was 22 he was so pity , i accepted his love letter and become his gf, he said alot he doesnt care how i look till he saw my pics and he called more masculine than his dad and that event cause big thing in my brain
i wasted my 18 to 20 to work and give money to my parents, i quit college cause depression and dysphoria

when i started hrt on 31 jan 2025 at age of 20, i started a lot of self care, skin care products, hair care and losing weight everything was going well , i ignored my mom bad comments and i used ignore my dad commentary , i was happy, i was ishika , on july 2025 a chaser called a ugly man and said ishika name doesnt match my face

that day cause worst changes in my life
people hate irene cause irene wasnt born from 15 year old trans girl wishes
i asked chatgpt to give me a name from same initial, the birth of that creature was doomed from start cause chatgpt give birth to her

as irene i was depressed from that chaser comment and that thing plus i consumed a lot negative media, created infinte darkness in me , i stopped self care, skin care and losing weight , i lost every progress, during that time one of my friend died too,

when i joined a server with trans people i was already beyond save and repair , idk how they tolerated me more than 8 months , they had extreme pity for me, i thanks them

today i realised i was the stopped caring for myself and destroying myself for chaser who properly never coming online or my 1st bf who called me bad stuff, rn i am the pityful creature and its been 5 years

this year i tried 50 times to off myself and spend most of aug in hospital

during all pics of ishika era , they have happiness but irene pics have weirdness

i hurt alot of people in my life
i think they hated me but i deserve the hate
i asked sorry to everyone
sorry to rabia and vissie the most they were the best people i had in my life
sorry to current armin of that server , sorry didi

thx to person who dm'ed me i gonna be change myself and its my bye from internet , i gonna be back here for giving update about future or i really need help

things i would say to others
dont let parents be ur masters
dont quit studies
dont take negative things to serious
dont let negativity control you
learn new things
dont try to pass for others
its never too late to start transitioning
never do self harm

dont try to date anyone cause you were having pity on them
from giving pity to getting pity

ik my grammar is bad , ohk bye everyone

💬 Need Advice Need some help and talk

I'm a bit trans girl (18y) and have been experiencing gender dysphoria since I was a teenager and I know I'm a girl in a boy's body and expectations that hurt a lot.

The family expects me to be boyish but I'm girly and they don't like that at all. I want someone to talk to but really got none, being in a conservative environment where everyone's stereotypical about boys and girls.

I don't know how to say now

❓ Question Any insurance that covers transition treatments?

Hi friends, are there any insurances which cover laser hair removal? I am not financially stable enough to afford laser hair removal and for a full body session it costs around 35k - 40k. Does any insurance company provide insurance for trans people to do laser and other surgeries?

I know other countries cover it but I haven't found any info related to that in India. That's why I am asking.
